I Discovered This Over 20yrs Ago!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 тра 2020
- Long before UA-cam was around and even before I became a photographer, I was out exploring. An area that changed due to mine reclamation soon became new territory for riding and adventures. So I ended up stumbling upon this long, dark & concrete drainage pipe. Not having the proper gear or experience, I never went all the way inside. So today, we head back to the same location to go into the darkness to see whats at the end of it. On my journey there, I end up discovering something equally as amazing. So come along with me as we encounter darkness, water and some spiders as I re visit this location from more than 20yrs ago. Enjoy

Gosh I remember doing that when I was a kid. My girlfriend and I used to find a lot of stuff. We even found tree houses; in the woods. Thank you and stay safe my new friend on UA-cam. And keep bringing your adventures!!!!!!!
Thanks Mary
I like the “pit stops” in your videos! They add character and like you said they get overlooked or forgotten 🙂
Thanks Samantha
Great explore Jay. Really liked the awesome stone culvert. I think I wouldn't have ventured as far as you did in the drain tunnel/pipe with the chance of rain. Thanks for sharing, having us along with you 👍👊✌️
Water would of helped me get out quicker lol
@@JPVideos81 😂
That was insane! Glad you didn't get injured in there, they would NEVER find you!!
Id be a lost relic in about 50yrs lol
I noticed that “other” egg in that nest... gotta love those parasitic brood birds (sorry one of my college electives was ornithology lol). Awesome adventure (really enjoyed the surprise tunnel with the amazing architecture). #3 and I don’t mind all the side adventures either because it makes it feel like a real nature walk.
Thanks moriah
I noticed that single speckled egg too and I never formally studied ornithology...just was a curious kid about nature.
I remember seeing an old nature show on PBS with Lorne Greene about Cuckoo birds and what their eggs looked like.
I think if I was there, I’d taken that Cuckoo egg out to save the other two eggs.
Mike Kelly I was thinking cuckoo (based off a quick search of the PA birds). I wouldn’t mess with a nest because some birds right now are protected/watch listed due to their population decreasing.
I agree
And then there's the COWBIRD that Drops Off their Kids...
That's Lazy Parenting Abandonment, in My Books!
>B-z
Also loved the bird’s nest and the insulators hard to believe they were still there after all this time. #3 for sure 😉
Almost most all the birds left earth
I’d love to explore that river with my metal detector. I’d be all over that spot where the old bridge used to be. Especially when the water is low. Thanks for giving us the size comparison with that stone culvert. It looked so much smaller without you standing by it!
It was surprisingly large
Throw a magnet in water where that old bridge was, never know what you would pull up
Did I hear...METAL DETECTING?!!
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗luv doing that also.
#3 definitely! That stone tunnel was so beautiful!! Love any pitstops you want to make. Amazing how you went through that cement culvert!! Glad you did premiere instead of live, SCARY!! This old gal's heart.....lol. Just Awesome Jay!!!!🥰
Haha. Safe and sound marty
Comment #3
I'd love to see the water when it rains. But I prefer your safety. Please take care.
Ill bring my floaties
@@JPVideos81 😂 Alright! Now I'm assured, Will be ringing that Notification Bell., Oh wait, I done it a long time ago.. 😊😊👍👍
That stone culvert was amazing , I could imagine it being in an old village with houses around it. Too cool to be hidden!
I had to muffle my screams a couple of times when you were in that tunnel. It was terrifying to someone with claustrophobia. I get tense just thinking about it. Great video as usual!
Glad you were able to watch it though.
Loved the stone culvert and the bird nest.Really cool. The drain pipe adventure was too much for me.I couldn't breathe watching it,you're braver than me.Thanks for bringing us along.
Haha. Thanks shari
Thanks, JP! Really enjoyed this one! That stack stone culvert was amazing, & the other one cool, but that old-time construction is simply the best. Stay Well!
I love your squirrel moments, please keep having them! I learn so much during those moments.
Haha. I'm sure that wont be a problem
Can't get enough of these adventures. So much fun to joun you on them, even if vicariously. Always great content.
Thanks for stopping by to see what i found.
I love the pitstops and side adventures. A long video is fine, if I can't watch it all at once I come back to it later. I love these videos! Keep them coming!!
thank you kat
Wow! This was a great adventure JP! Glad to here you had back up in case you needed help! Looked scary there for awhile! I for one love all of the "extra" finds you take time to show us! In fact, when you say, "oh, wait a minute, I see something "...I think it's cool and can't wait. Finding that neat stone arched tunnel was so cool too!
For your question at beginning, I vote number three.
Thanks!
Thanks so much linda. Oh wait ends up being squirrel moments lol
That stone work was awesome. Looked like an entrance to a castle. Thanks for sharing.
Or a secret passage
Loved the stone tunnel. The long tunnel was amazing, but I actually felt myself getting an anxiety attack as you walked deeper into it. It was fascinating, but I couldn’t go in there.
Thanks for checking it out
The stone culvert was amazing just shows the level of workmanship in the past. Enjoyed the walk, never worry about the little side trips. As always enjoyable.
Thanks
I love the pitt stops you come across along the way to the end goal destination! You do awesome videos! Keep on exploring!
I have to say, that culvert creeped me out, and I’m a caver, lol. Something about long, seemingly endless, featureless, culverts just gives me chills. Love the older culvert, beautiful stonework. Great video, J.P.
Haha. I was just worried about snakes.
Those were Telegraph insulators. There’s a Hemingray website that tells you all about them including which ones are rare. The ones you found were very common. It’s still cool to find them like you did as they’re highly collectible and most of them aren’t still up on poles like that. The ones with colors other than clear and aqua are more desired. I’d be lugging a ladder down there to grab them up. 🤣 This is what the website says about the ones you found: “The Hemingray No.40 is a very common and popular style, and was mass produced in aqua and green colors. In c.1910, an experiment with AT&T to produce a new standard insulator resulted in this design being selected. It was produced in mass quantities until 1921, when the Hemingray No.40 was replaced by the extremely popular Hemingray - 42.”
They arent as desirable as people think. I see them all the time at flea markets, yard sales and antique stores. They ain't selling unless they are rare.
@@JPVideos81 when you see them, check how "Hemingray" is spelled - if it's "Hemingrray" with two 'r's, it's the rarer error (yes, rhyme, I know - lol) - found this info at www.insulators.info/articles/woodward/hemingrray-42.htm - enjoy :)
Still more beautiful in the blue tones!
@@JPVideos81 It is what 'YOU' like that counts, people 'collect' all kinds of stuff right, hopefully cause they really like it and maybe can find a way to reuse them.
I must have over 300 rings found while metal detecting for over 30 years.
Best one found was a nice lady's grandmother's ring. She wanted to pay me but the tears of joy in her eyes was wonderful. I would NEVER 'charge' to find someone's lost property. I know she got a ring guard because she & her little girl play in the park not far from my house. 😁
Being that I am claustrophobic I would never have went in to the drain pipe. I did love the tunnel that you found on the way to the drain pipe ❤❤ stay safe love you
Aside from having to hunch over, it wasn't too bad.
Love your squirrel finds!! Loved the stone work!! Now, the concrete tunnel was really creepy... I just couldn’t wait to get out!! 😳🙄But glad you did it and took us along .... thank you 💖💙💖💙
Sooo many squirrel finds
Finding the wonderful old culvert and the blue glass insulators made this explore extra special .... Enjoyed the scenery down to the river .... the walk thru the drainage pipe was something I could only do via your video ....ain't going thru it "for real" ..LOL.... thank you for taking us along on this adventure ...lots of fun !
Well im glad to do it for you haha
Love the side adventures, love the long videos! My favorite youtube explorer by far 😁😁
Awww tina ,thank you 🤗
As always great video! I have a horrible spider phobia, but wow, the clarity and detail of your photo was amazing. And yes, #3 😁
I love when you discover more things! It's always interesting, no doubt! Don't worry about the time, my friend.3 Thanks for taking us on another awesome journey! Stay safe! Can't wait until the next one!🙋🏽♀️👍🏼😄💙💙💙
Yes go back to 3
You're too kind. Thank you
@@JPVideos81 You are welcome! 😄🤟🏼💙💙💙
No way, this was KRAZY SCARY!!!
Glad you got to experience thru my adventure.
Now this was just really cool to watch. Glad to see you out there enjoying what you do.
And like I always say, the journey is half the fun of the adventure. That's awesome that you found some insulators. I've only found one intact until later in all my years. That's really cool.
What you should do now is look at the tunnel in the land above it, try to to guesstimate your distance and area, see if you can find where it comes out at the other end.
How was the oxygen down there, with both ends open I would assume there is air flow, but it probably gets a little thin regardless.
Glad everything went well, I enjoyed this as well as the brickwork on the way there
I definitely will retrace my steps and see where the light is. Air was good. Slight breeze down there.
Wow that birds nest was a really neat find and plus eggs !! Yahoo!!!
🐦 🥚
Loving your longer videos , the way you articulate information it’s like watching a live documentary in the making , really good work and great camera work .
Thanks steve. I often worry it's too long or boring. Some locations just take longer in order to showcase it properly.
3- I'm glad to hear that family knew where you were. I was worried about that. Thank you for another great video.
No graffiti. Yea!
I like your "pit stops" it adds to the adventure! I really like watching your videos because you take time to show the viewer the whole area and not just the main attraction. Too many videos now rush through places with too much energy and I feel like the viewer misses out on things. Keep doing what you do!!!
Aww thanks colby. Im glad you enjoy my style.
#3 oh for sure jp, you gotta go back and shoot a couple photo's and maybe a video of this beautiful tunnel when it rain's.Got to be the most awesome i have ever seen.
I definitely plan on it
I just happened to park not far from the entrance of the tunnel(where JP would have ended up). I was excited to find out where it starts without having to go through the whole thing. I have been in a fair share of small tunnels myself, one tunnel being only 2 and a half feet high. That was a nightmare but I had to see where it came out. There is a smaller tunnel that keeps on going that feeds into this one. I went in at the river but only to the deeper water. I counted 4 manholes(I think) back on the surface heading to my car. JP's video has 5, so I missed one somewhere. Keep making the pit stops!
Brings back memories... back when I was about 8 years old, there was a drain that went under the highway behind my grandmother’s house. My parents didn’t know I was going thru there all the way to the other end (probably about 100-120 yards). It was rectangular and at the time of course, I could walk without touching the top. There was a drain in the middle of the highway but it didn’t have any ladder steps to get to it. Thanks for the video!
They are interesting to explore. Thanks for checking it out.
Wow that stone culvert is awesome and I love that the tops are always arched. What a find. I could feel your excitement thru the camera thru the video. Yes #3 go back in the future when water rushing thru. I like these walk about /hike type videos. If u ever at a loss for content just take us all on a LIVE long hike and together we might find something else new...Love it.
that first short tunnel looks like something to control flooding especially since it goes underneath the train tracks. maybe to prevent the train from derailing or hydroplaning from high waters.
Yes, the next time you go into such a pipe you better bring something that has wheels that can support your weight and it will probably go better. Well I regularly watch videos of "post 10 culvert" that is a man who keeps those pipes clean and you have to take into account that there may be methane gas or something like that which can easily make you unconscious, you have to bring something that warns you that the air becomes unhealthy. No, not the old way with a canary in a cage. And you can't get me in that hole because I'm 6'11" tall and I don't like spiders.
Before I forget, my compliments for your photos, they look beautiful !!
Hi!! ... Sweetheart!!, I'm a young 64 now. Did what you do every chance I got!!! Scared my husband to death. He always said I was a 'Gusty Girl akin to a bull' ... Hahaha!!! He passed 4 yrs ago, I'm in a wheelchair.
Hope you can Imagine the Joy I Get going 'with you' on your explorations!!!! Thank You!!! Stay Safe!! Maggie

Aww thank you. Glad you enjoy the adventures.
Thank You for Replying. That's Precious to me.
God's Good Keep, to You,
And People EveryWhere💖!!
Okay JP, I have deemed you officially crazy after this one. But I loved it! I probably would have been right behind you give the chance. Reminds me of the James Bond scene in Dr. No where he escapes through the vent system. Liked this one a lot. Cool insulators bye the way.
I felt like India jones, thankfully no snakes.
I remember crawling through culverts when I was a kid. We crawled through one that looked like a mile long but was only a couple hundred feet long. We could see all the way through it but it looked so long! What memories! Great video!
👍
Loved the adventure. I enjoy your side adventures makes it more fun.
😊
I did something like this when I was a kid. Chickened out after about 5 feet.....also explored old ruins near the Hudson River. It's fun to see where you go....I heard that some stonemasons were brought here from Europe. Whoever did that tunnel didn't have to go to those lengths. Beautiful......
Thanks diane
I did this track in a wheelchair and it was absolutely thrilling...............................
Thanks for taking us along!! Keep the great videos coming!
My pleasure
I'm about half through the video and I luv all the 'pit stops !
That birds nest was AMAZING!
What builders they are.. I was out looking though my window when a big Egeal few past carrying a big fish. Wish I had my phone and could have gotten a picture of it.
Those lights were a real score !
I now have an 'I' phone and it's activated!!! Still have to find a way to make an account with the Apple Store to get a You Tube app but it means I don't have to walk to the Post Office, "YAY".
Jason will be taking a cab ride on Monday in his box and heading to PA. finelly ! Still waiting for the others to come in the mail.😁

Awesome find! Workmanship you don't see anymore. Love it.
WOW! a MOSS birds nest AND a parked freight train!!! LOVE yer pit stops!!!

Oh my goodness, what an awesome adventure! The insulators were such a great find, I am happy you were able to get them! Number 3 for sure! Love the mother nature's carpet bird nest and how cool was that to see eggs in it? Oh wow, I was so nervous as you were walking through the tunnel, holding my breath through the whole thing, I took a deep breath after you reached the end. lol Super cool video! Thank you JP!
That's impressive to hold your breath that long... haha
That was a great explore J - that Pope was bigger than one I crawled through when I was in Switzerland 🇨🇭 - glad you didn’t meet any snakes or spiders !
Thank you for sharing this neat adventure with me 😁👍💕
Im glad too. Thanks for checking out my exploration
I didn’t check my dictation before I made my comment - I meant the pipe you went thru was bigger than the pipe I crawled Thru - not Pope !! 😳😂
This was great!! The first find was fantastic!!! The bird nest with natures carpet was really cool!!! I was nervous for you crawling through the tunnel! Very cool vlog!!!!!!
😁
Cool video! I liked the older tunnel thing the best!
It was such a lucky find
At--33:10-- Spiders have little claws on their legs so they don't get stuck in their webs. I haven't seen one like that before. This is like a Nature's hike.
Definitely #3. Enjoying the videos. Stay safe out there and be blessed.
JP what a fantastic find I love that brick tunnel from the 1800. That is so cool I hope and pray that will last forever. The beauty out East is just out of this world. That tunnel looks like something like from Egypt, but I never been to Egypt, that is beautiful. JP you are so like me, yea I would of taken some insulator, they are just going to throw them away anyway. I have insulators also, blue, white and clear. JP I always have a blast walking with you and you can stop for whatever you see, I don't care. JP you have to get out there, climb the ladder steps and lift up the man cover, that's what I would do. I was with you but JP I was darn scared for you. I really like it but next time take a partner with you, so many things can happen ok.
💙
Pitstops are all a part of the explore. It would be silly to come back a different day for each stop along the way.😘. Your just taking the scenic route.
Very true
I loved this video! Took a lot of nerve to go in that drainage pipe. I’m super claustrophobic lol. More power to ya my friend 😊. And that bonus find, the stone culvert was really a bonus. They sure made things to last back in the day 👍🏻
😊
I don't know where you are located but thought you might be interested...back in the 1830s the Delaware & Hudson canal was built to transfer anthracite coal from Northeastern Pennsylvania to sell in NYC. I think that many of those small bridges were designed by Charles Roebling who was hired as a civil engineer and eventually built the Brooklyn bridge. Wiki the D&H canal it might be of interest to you.
loved the carpet birds nest, 3, and soooo curious of what is on the other side!! really cool video
that was awesome! i'd like to see you come back again. i tried watching this last night but you tube wasn't working. this white line kept spinning and spinning. i've never been inside a covert. thanks for taking us.
My pleasure mike
I personally don't mind the long videos as I sometimes like to have them on to just relax and take a leisurely walk through the forest. I do understand, however, the need to keep them shorter (40 mins or so). I think if you do a destination video like this and it runs on longer than an hour, perhaps after the first 8 minutes just say "if you want to skip to the destination portion go to XhXm" that way the people who just want to see the goal can skip ahead and the rest of us can continue on the adventure with you. As they say "Life is a journey, not a destination".
Did you try and figure out on a map where the tunnel ended for you, it seems like you went at least a couple streets over from where you started. Awesome find with that hidden stone block tunnel, the stones for the floor of it was amazing. And, yes, 3 :) Finding those insulators intact like that would be so totally awesome. They got rid of trains around where I live years ago, the nearest tracks are over 65 miles (100kms) away and usually in developed areas so the poles like that are long gone.
I'm going to try and trace the origins of that tunnel.
#3 I love when you find something that hasn't been vandalized.
that extra find you found looks like something from ww2 era maybe good find bro
Very cool stone culvert. Comment #3. A few years ago I explored a smaller culvert made of red sandstone "bricks" in the Mojave Desert on an abandoned section of Santa Fe line. A nearby active RR bridge abutment is made of the same red sandstone. The sandstone was not locally sourced.
Oh my, you were brave to go in that tunnel alone! And you went pretty far! I couldn’t have gone in there, too scarey for me! And those spiders 🕷 ! Good video! Really enjoyed it!
Ty donna
My ex father in law had brown, white and blue insulators he worked with AT&T and retired in 1989 they were so cool to see....love this journey the tunnel I kept saying go back go back
I heard you lol
I love all your side trips #3 I love all of your videos, please be safe.
👍
hi to all the guy on here tonight great on here
Hi Jay, (3), I for one love that you find and talk about the different things to see along the way, as you yourself say, "It's not just the destination it's the journey getting there" or words to that effect. What a cool hike and explore, that first culvert looked so well built, what is it used for though as the actual ceiling was really high for it to be used just for the river to go through ??. Seeing those old insulators was a lucky find and blue one's too, I don't blame you taking them as kids will only break them if they see them. The actual reverb in that 2nd culvert was so cool, it actually sounded sometimes though like there was someone speaking other than you which was a tad creepy. I have to admit as soon as you mentioned the word spider I averted my eyes for a bit only to very cautiously look and see a damn great big one filling my laptop screen, I'm only glad you didn't hear me as the air was as blue as those insulators😂😂. A great adventure, thank you for taking us along with you even though you did scare me with the spider pic 😂. Stay safe and well, much love to you and your family. x
Spiders are cute lol
@@JPVideos81 Not when you're sat on the loo and find a huge drain spider on the inside of your pyjama pants they're not 😂

thanks holly
That culvert is an awesome fine! Lucky you to have stumbled upon this. It's amazing and I would love to see it myself. I love the bird's nest and even has eggs. Man, you are finding all sorts of wonderful things on this explore. Those insulators are a great find. I've got a feeling you are the only one who has ventured so deeply into that concrete pipe. The close up of the spider was the scariest thing ever! Holy cow! You probably should have someone with you when going into places like this. I enjoyed trekking along with you on this explore, except for the killer spiders. Take care and stay safe. Thanks for sharing this adventure.

watch. Thank you Jay
My pleasure
I love pit stops! Cool video. You couldn't pay me enough to go that far down that tunnel. The first one was beautiful. The speckled egg is a Cowbird egg. Cuckoo eggs are bluish in color and the ones here don't often use other birds' nests like the Common Cuckoo does.
I am thankful you made it out safely, that was kind of scary for a moment.
That birds nest was pretty amazing!!!!
Lucky little find inside that lucky find of a culvert.
No 3 would like to see with water. I work on canal restoration in UK plooks like the culvert needs some TLC especially the concrete lead in as the bit between the end of concrete and culvert is being undermined is the growth around the far inlet Japanese knot weed
Thanks for a great video
Wow! those blue insulators are vintage. Enjoy!!
Hey...is that a JP Video tag????...lol 🤣
Shhh, you didnt see that
OhJay you found something great and I do like to see you go back and check it out again you said something about number three
With a good rainfall, would be interesting to see water flowing through it.

Great video. ..my daughter and I hike all over Pa and we have our special spots for investigating. ..love what you do...stay safe
Thanks so much
Jees that tunnel at the start tho! Looks like something out of a history book! For the second tunnel.... The length reminds me of the infamous faze rug tunnel, but the look and vibe make me think of a shorter one near me that I have visited (about a 3/4 mi long or so) Ironically it's a larger diameter!
Nice. Those drainage tunnels are very intriguing.
Great Video 👍 JP nice walk great close-up footage of the spider wow the tunnel great job finding this interesting where it leads thankfully you decided to go back thank you for sharing this great adventure take care stay safe 🙏

JP, just finished watching your awesome video! That 1st one was really cool and so was the 2nd one. Really enjoyed your video.
This adventure was full of surprises. I enjoyed sharing it with everyone.
I like the varying length. That find was awesome, it would be fun to see that culvert when filled with water. I would never have ventured into that drain or whatever it is with somebody, let alone. The thought of the dark and spiders would keep me out. Were you able to identify that spider you took the close up of? I just thought you could see if Cliff would know.
Im not familiar with the species. Just admire their beauty.
Keep making the pit stops. Its fun enjoyable and what we would do if we were out exploring or traveling. Love traveling with you. You’re a very good travel guide..
Thank you carol
Thank you JP. Enjoyed the video. I could not have gone into the tunnel. And yes I think you should go and see that Culvert when water is higher. Would be interesting to see how high it gets.xxx
Thanks for watching elaine
I would love to see the flooded tunnel and the river area you visited. Be careful of the muddy embankment.
All I was thinking while you were down there was if someone knew where you were. Glad they did. My back hurt from watching you. Great vid and watch for those flash floods coming down the sewer in the future.
