- Many people often ask how I find the locations that i end up making videos of. Although there's no easy answer to that question, in this video I'll show you how i found this location using Google Maps. So come along with me as we go from computer, to vehicle and finally on foot to find and document this abandoned structure. Enjoy

So this is why I love my viewers. A few people did some digging and reached out to me with their findings. It's not 100% confirmed, but this is/was most likely an iron & steel mill. There were multiple mills along this river from the 1700s thru the 1800s, but this one was probably used with the Scranton Iron Furnaces that is further down stream. Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts with me.
The ending just killed me
@@geoffreyjones2000 🤣🤣🤣
The video was very nice, esp. listening to the water. Then the ending....."Run...! " Made me think of your Kool Alien 51 video.
Ya hear 'Ding!' I half expected to see the little green 51 dude....Funny stuff😄😃😂😁
So interesting, love hearing the history of places. Very cool find!
@@geoffreyjones2000 Me too :D
You take us to the best places! I'm 62 and disabled so there's no way I'm hiking in the woods down to a river lol. I really appreciate you taking us with you.
😊
55 homebound disabled and jp's videos really brighten my days. I appreciate him sharing all of his explores and time with his beautiful wife and daughter.....lots of fun!
Yeah, me too. I'm 72 and things like this really interest me as I wouldn't attempt to try it myself.
I'm disabled too and also 62. I like these adventures as i can no longer get out and adventure even though I would like to.
"An abandoned water power dam known as Step Falls is located on the stream in the Nay Aug Gorge. Much of the stream's channel and riparian area have been developed for flood control purposes."
"The main stem was used as a water supply for Scranton by the Scranton Gas and Water Company. It was also used as an industrial water supply by the Spencer Coal Company. The watershed continues to supply water to the Lackawanna Valley in the 21st century."
I believe you're right saying it was a form of water treatment for industrial sites along the river, as most water-feeds for the city were at step falls or the Scranton reservoir.
Though the design reminds me of old 'first-generation' hydro electric plants. Generators would be mounted on those railway iron, encased in the cement.
It amazes me how the history of something like this just went by the wayside. Beautiful scenery though!
I like the behind the scenes videos! I think this was a cool find. The sound of the water calms me. Thanks for trying something new for us!!
You're welcome Christina
I really enjoyed this, thankyou for sharing … also, loved your sense of humor at the end :D
Nice video! My exploring days are pretty much over but I can still enjoy it through your lens. Thanks Jay!
You're welcome
That looks like I quiet place to sit and read! Great find. Thanks for sharing how you find your locations.
My pleasure
Thank you JP! I often wondered how people find these abandoned places!! Great video!!
Thanks so much
Pretty cool, how you find these locations! Such a great video and the photos were beautiful! Keep up the great adventure videos and the awesome personality! The end was my favorite!
Beautiful scenery - I am enjoying the walk to get to where you’re hoping to find .
What you found is amazing you could probably find out the history later on of what it was .
👍another well done. That shot of the water running around the rocks
Beautiful views...Thanks 4 sharing 🙌
Oh my blessed goodness!!!! Those out takes had me laughing out loud and had to rewind and watch them twice. What a beautiful day you had.
Glad i was able to make you smile
Wonder if it was a old water mill using for farming back in the day
That was my first thought. There is a mill in Baltimore County, on the Gunpowder river. There is an old Gunpowder factory as well. They both are said to be from Colonial times.
@@johnpatton6470 it blew up...
@@johnchalleen3278 It does seem to look that way, or it was porposly blown up. Maybe a little too high tech for the Cowboys and Indians narrative that we are fed in the indoctrination centers they call schools. There are many photos on line that show that there was an advanced civilization in the Americas, and around the world that has been torn down, covered up, and written out of history. I sure would like to have a look at the Vatican's Library. We have been, and still are being lied to on every level.
More than likely an old mill, using hydro power
Loved the serenity of this explore. The sound of the water with the fall colors... nice...
I always enjoy anything you upload jay. I also enjoyed the step by step on finding all your places you find to explore and all the memories restored of them too. Thanks for sharing this jay.
Thanks very much alan
Great find...Loved the fall colors and watery sounds are very peaceful. I hope you can find out more about this location. Loved the outro 🤣

Take care stay safe and God bless you!!!
Thanks for another great video Jay.. Beautiful!
So much time and effort put into this video! 🙌🏼 Loved the more vlog style of filming for a change. Would love more underwater footage from this place or any other place you stumble upon! Thank you Jay!
Check out my video from Friday for more underwater footage.
It amazes me that there are so many areas that are abandoned that no one has ever seen or heard of. I'm glad you are able to document this. 👍up to you
Thanks for watching
Your inquisitiveness and excitement for each and every explore, whether it be abandoned, historical, or edible, makes each and every video a true pleasure. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much
I think this is my favorite video of yours that I have watched so far. Really like the way you filmed it.
Aww thank you
That was beautiful and the water was soothing. Loved the skits at the end. Too funny.
Awesome, loving this video!
Ty
You're so creative n inventive - and wacky funny! :-D The underwater footage was DA BOMB; a murky bubbly mini-venture. Great job!
😁💙
I wonder if it was a hydro plant of some kind? Great find Jay. Fall in PA is beautiful.
Thank you after a long day of being on a sprained ankle and then getting my face bite by a dog, I come home to watch your videos with the calm relaxing voice you have, the beautiful scenery and fun you have at the end. Keep up the great job.
Oh no.... i hope you're ok 💙💙
I really enjoyed this adventure. The fall leaves, river rocks, flowing river, foundation and camp site were fun to see. In my younger years, I did a lot of exploring so I thank you for this.
Super peaceful JP! Awesome video.
🙂
another awesome video thanks JP
Ad always, a great video. Just a thought, especially with the cold weather, perhaps a set of hip waders for underwater filming. Great underwater shots and you can still stay dry in the center of streams and creeks.
that place is beautiful peaceful. I loved it thank you
Very nice find and explore! Funny at the end, glad the horse didn't throw ya! Gave thumbs up as always
I'm more happy that i survived the car crash.
@@JPVideos81 LMAO

Great video JP!
Thanks tamara
Excellent find, really cool shots ! I grew up in the mountains so this is a calming video.. thank you.. omg, you’re such a goof ! Love it !
😁💙
Good stuff as always 👍
Maybe the chamber of commerce has old city/county maps or plans of what the structure was.
Keep the adventures coming!
Lol! Love the end bit!! I love this video - gorgeous day and scenery, mysterious ruins, and you walked us through how you came about finding it. Truly fascinating - great job, JP!
Thanks kelly
Awesome video! Enjoyed watching! 👍
The ending was pretty funny! 😀
Loved the video Jay

Beautiful Fall colors! Nice creek!
Beautiful and peaceful spot, thanks for sharing!

What a fantastic find! The ending to this video had me cracking up! Great way to end it!
Love the behind the scenes! This was a really cool video!! I love this kind of stuff. So fun to explore! Wish you could find some history on it. Very nice! Thanks!
💙
JP, really enjoyed your awesome video! Beautiful scenery!
Hi JP. Very cool explore, thank you.
You're welcome
I also love the views from the drone. Cool!
My dads from Scranton and it’s always one of my favorite places to visit! Loved the ending lol!!
Next time you visit let me know
Did someone take you hiking when you were younger? It amazes me how you know what is interesting and why. Even when you don’t know what you’re going to find you can still figure out what these places probably were. I don’t know how you manage to know so much about machinery, buildings , etc. And I love it when you show us under water even when you’re not sure how it will be. That makes me feel like I’m also exploring. And thanks for showing us how you use google maps. That was really cool!
Thanks gianna. I learn alot thru research and from my viewers.
good video. its always fun to browse around google maps, ya never know what you might find
Exactly
First time I have viewed one of your videos. Like your style. Will be watching.
Ty
Cool place and beautiful scenery 👌🥰 love all the outdoor adventures ♥😀 Wonderful video as usual 👍👍 keep up the good work and stay safe ❤🙏😀
Beautiful place! Great video! Loved the behind the scenes look! ❤️👍
The outtakes are hilarious!!!!!!!!!
Got me chuckling 🤭 with your antics at the end! Great video 💙
😁
Exciting video and a good documentary on a former industry building. 👍
Ty
I appreciate your effort and all the things you do to present awesome video's. keep up the fantastic work JP !
I appreciate the kind words
Very nice video looks like it was a beautiful day out thanks for sharing.
JP I loved this! And thanks for letting in the silly things at the end, made me smile
Absolutely! Glad you enjoyed it
Great video, but the ending was the best! 😂 you have a great sense of humor and imagination. What kind of horse were you riding? 🤣🤣
It was Mr. Ed
The disappointment in your voice when you discovered the Swifer was not a toy! LOL. Priceless. Loved the footage near the end of just the sound and pictures of the river flowing.
Ill find a toy next time
It looks like the remains of a water powered mill to me.
I think the brick circles were fire pits, which heated boilers, which provided steam power for water pumps perhaps. The skinny channel looks like it was for a large waterwheel power generator station.
“ Come on with me and let’s get started “ ought to be your mantra. When introducing the start of your video😎
Still waiting for you to come...
this was cool!! thanks!!
I loved your intro. You caught my attention. I really like old sites where we speculate what went on there. You really have great curiosity and a sense of adventure that brings the experience to life. Your narration is great too! Thanks ☺
Thanks
Gosh what an incredibly pretty place. Not too much seeing under water. Love seeing the ruins I think they are so exciting. Thanks for taking me along
Love your vids. Sorry I dont comment more but stay safe bro
Hi JP, it's really A beautiful place.even though I didn't see any fish. I still thank you so much for sharing And the beautiful sounds of the rushing Waters . BYE FOR NOW!!!😃🖐🏼
Fun stuff. Now phase phase two of your search? Try finding a period photo or description of the structure there. Local historical societies, library collections of local history including old business guides and maps, local collectors, even on line searches can often turn up interesting stuff. It be cool to end with a 'back when' picture. Good luck.
I enjoyed this! Interesting history find! Thank you👌
You're welcome
Great video...the screening is just beautiful! Loved the ending...lol
🙂
Hi Jay, a very cool find, it was a gorgeous area too to just hang out and enjoy the Fall sunshine. Thanks for the chuckle at the end lol. x
Thanks sue 💙
Nice find!!!!!!
Hey, sending you some info now about it!
It's cool to see someone else use their sleuthing skills. Hoping to put a video together soon on how people can find out about their city and areas they live in more in-depth!
Great find
Great ending. Huge thumbs up for that. And I've been checking Google maps quite a bit lately looking for cool stuff myself. It's a very valuable tool to finding places to explore or have reference points. Awesome video as always.
I saw in matts video that you rode the tree horse as well. Figured you'd like the ending.
@@JPVideos81 Ha ha ha.
That was so great! Loved seeing how you find a location. Those ruins are so cool and the scenery must have made it worth the hike. Thank you for the laughs at the end too! Lol
😁
very nice photography, thank you!
You're welcome
Beautiful scenery!
Beautiful scenery. Loved the ending, quite funny.
Great video Jay,I cant say how many times Ive had mouse hand cramps from google maps satellite :)
Nice place great pictures...thanks for taking the time to entertain us ✌️
When I was growing up, there were woods behind our house and my twin brothers and I practically LIVED in those woods exploring everything from an old barn, an underground cellar with a wooden door, a pet cemetery with grave markers, loads of blackberry bushes and other exciting things a kid remembers. Loved this video cause it reminded me of what I did when young. :)
Thanks for watching
We had an area like that born int the 1950s . Some old houses and barns .horse drawn farm equipment , , Old wagons . a tractor with iron wheels , I wish I took pictures. Some ruins are still there from the 1700s
Thank you so much for this, it was very interesting, to know this.
The ending...hilarious! 🤣
beautiful views
Ok lovely late summer fall footidg! The best is how you may find buildings ECT on maps. Made me want to go exploring! Thanks!
Beautiful pictures
Cool adventure!! Liked how you started with Google maps & loaded us in the car. Just Beautiful shots, water sound so calming & sun rays under water very nice. Outro was way fun, that run gets me laughing everytime!! Thanks Jay, can't wait til the next. :)
Figured id try something a bit different. Glad you enjoyed it.
That was pretty interesting. And some nice shot's :)
Ty
Really cool to see how you use google to find places. Beautiful and peaceful area. Really interesting what was left behind!!! love your sense of humor!!!!
Ty
Great still shots !!
That is fast running water I would like to take a walk across it 😁
This was another fantastic video J the scenery was beautiful and trying to figure out what that place used to be. Perhaps Townhall wherever town you are in would have the information ?
Thanks for sharing this very interesting video 😁👍👍
Great video. Really enjoyed the history of the place. I did a little reading afterwards and I wonder if this site might be the old Slocum Brothers Mill. The location puts it at about .5 miles up from the mouth, which right where you were. Anyway, thanks for posting.
What a cool explore!! It might have even been a manufacturing place of some kind whatever it was it’s an awesome place for your expertise at photography JP!! Love your humor at the end 😂 Thanks JP 👍🏻❤️
Love the silliness at the end of your videos!😂
