I recently used the 998 to drill 1/2 inch holes in cinder block - using wood drill bits! I destroyed a couple of them (they came out of the hole glowing red!) because I didn't have any masonry bits, no time to buy any, and my pastor needed help with a project at the church that day. The noise could have awakened the dead, but it did the job. From that experience, and with wall framing and other projects, I can honestly say it is an incredible tool.
I bought this Dewalt hammer drill last month, what I noticed the most was the light setting feature, WOW, thats what needs to be hammered on as a great feature. My last Dewalt hammer drill that was 8 years old didn't have that bright light, that Dewalt light feature is the best, Someone at Dewalt should get a bonus for that...........
Great video on a great tool man! Just used my 998 today for the first time and it drilled through a concrete hurricane pad like butter. Nothing takes abuse quite like DeWalt!!
@W Jack 3/16. Today my coworker who uses a Rigid hammer drill and I had a test both using 3/16 bit into a concrete pad for ankers and the 2 holes we drilled my dewalt completed them quicker by about 3 seconds
Hello. Choosing a model for a new drill. They are selling combo deals that includes two drills, one a hammer…. The standard drill has a hammer mode, why would you need the separate hammer drill? Although I do prefer the quick connect for standard bits as seen on the hammer drill, instead of having to loosen and tighten a chuck. You thoughts? Separate question, I remember seeing a standard drill gun that you can remove the Chuck portion to reveal a standard hex insert for bits
Hello vince.just bought a new dewal the dcd796.. I am just curious about it.. Just a question, is it normal if i turn on, on speed 2 the release it i always hear a clicking sounds while on speed 1 i don't hear anything on it. I don't know if it's just normal.thanx a lot

Does the new 998 come with the Bluetooth built in or us the 998 like the 996 were you have to get the Bluetooth model number is seperate from the regular tool
I would never have found speed 2 before this video 🤣 It's a decent soup-to-nuts drill/driver/hammer(ish) drill, but I wouldn't use it to drill for 1/2"-13 anchors through 8" concrete pads. Then again, I don't set anchors in masonry walls with my big Dewalt SDS. This is why I have a 1/4" impact screwdriver, 2 DeWalt hammer drills, the 1/2" impact wrench, and the 1/2" SDS, because I have all these 20v batteries and I wanted more things that they fit. And, that drilling 1/2" anchor holes in concrete pads thing. It's no small part of my job.
I’m looking at purchasing the dcd 796 or the dcd 996 which 1 in your option is the best 1 for me to purchase because if the settings 1 and 2 are most used and setting 3 on odd occasions only wouldn’t it be best to purchase the dcd 796. Because the setting 3 is basically useless or too powerful to do holes.am I correct Especially if the dcd796 is virtually the same as the 996 and if the 996 struggles on setting 3 then really the 996 would be a waste of money when you can purchase the 796 and do the same stuff and just as much power as the 996 and the torches on both are also the same - This is a hard choice which do I purchase please help me decided much appreciated As there is also more torque settings on the dcd 796 as I’ve noticed on your very good video you made They both also weigh the same so really I’m not noticing much if anything different on both models apart from setting 3 I look forward to hear back from you so I can place my order thank you...
Hello Vince I am thinking that the German Metabo 3 speed hammer drill you picked up last year would be an excellent match for the Dewalt. The only think about the Metabo is that in a head to head race for speed the Metabo is not built for high speed. There more like German tanks. There over built and there tork should be better that the Dewalt. Also from a price point the Metabo should on paper have a longer life span. I think the Metabo with a 6.3amp or 8amp 18V battery would far will against the Dewalt.

Thanks for the cool video cool gang now I'm hoping that the 996 will drop in price. By the way how around how much are these new 998 Dewalt hammer drills going for?
Hi Vince, thanks for this video, it is great! I really need to know one specific. What's the measure of the collar where is possible to install the side handle? I have a separate drill bench press and I need to know if the collar of this drill is between 38 and 43mm. May you kindly help me out? Thanks in advance, man!
