    Just picked up the Dewalt DCD805 hammer drill today. I haven’t had time to use it yet, but it’s nice and compact. Just like the DCD800 it’s built like a tank. Dewalt is definitely stepping up their game.

      @@Faigh_as it’s still going and it gets abused most of the time. It’s fast drilling holes in concrete, brick and cement. Best drill that I have used, even better than my Milwaukee imo and Makita 40v. It’s definitely a good purchase.

    Just picked up the DCD800 yesterday and it was definitely what I was looking for paired with the Atomic DCF850. Being compact it’s a little on the heavy side, but it’s solid, built like a tank. I was going to wait for the DCD805 hammer drill, but I like my Milwaukee 2804 hammer drill for hammer drill tasks, it works the best for me. I also have the DCD996, 796, 791, Makita XGT hammer drill, and the Milwaukee 2804 hammer drill. The new DCD800 is now my favorite.

      I’m definitely a tool color buyer. Black n yellow doesn’t have to be the fastest or most powerful, but it’s definitely the best looking, even when it’s beat up like most of my Dewalt tools. Milwaukee red is ok, but fades to a pink color if you use them in the sun a lot.

    I always wanted to share this info with you. You can now get the new triple hammer impact driver from Metabo HPT that was released in Japan. Got mine yesterday and it's really small on the head. I think it would be interesting if Metabo HPT made a 1.5 amp battery as I am so used to having those smaller batteries. I think they can definitely do it. Not a knock at XGT, but they are really expensive when compared to other brands. I have been switching most of my Makita 18v tools to Metabo HPT just keeping the track saw with a few other Makita tools that I love.

    Love that DEWALT is going for slightly more compact while squeezing a lot more power into the tools. I’ve had the DCD996 for years, never felt the lack of power but I did feel the weight and it was too much of a tool for small tasks.

      I agree with you. I have the 996 too and I love it. It has all the power, but I have always wanted an 18 volt that was smaller. I might have to pick this new dewalt up.

    • @pflaffik
      @pflaffik 2 роки тому +1

      But then we have Flex, more power in same size means more heat to dissipate in the same size, and then cooling time was a thing. It’s like the old days when projectors were getting smaller and smaller, pretty soon the less serious brands had tiny projectors that wasn’t practically useable. Higher voltage can help a little due to lower losses but that’s not the case with this drill.

    Nice conparison, that new Dewalt looks great. I will almost certainly get one when I need a new drill--not for a while, I like my Metabo HPT compact 18v hammer drill and my 791, and they still have fairly low mileage. With a 6ah 21700 cell battery or bigger the 800 would have run that Irwin self-feed bit right through the 2x (I know, that runs contrary the purpose of DeWalt's new compact power strategy, but still).

Smaller profile than the DCF850, 3 speeds, tekscrewmode, and a motor lock mode for paintmixing at any speed you can manage to get out of the trigger. It's a modified impact wrench like the kind ryobimancaver made(big hammers but only 1/4hex collet)
      And because of those strong wrench-internals it can even drive a water pump like the kobalt XTR could(I drive a water pump with mine sometimes)

      I also get the sense that you fail to see just how big Ryobi is _or even what modern handheld tools as a category are capable of._ The Kobalt XTR impact driver has peaked at 260 nM in physical testing on multiple popular youtube channels and it is years old at this point. I wouldn't recommend Flex as a tool platform for DIY'ers. It's overkill and overpriced for work around the house. My top choice for DIY is probably Kobalt. Plenty of tools in the lineup, frequent sales at Lowe's, and made by the same parent company as Flex (Chervon). All brushless tools, they don't make brushed stuff. The XTR hammer drill is good.
      Ryobi isn't a bad choice either, but for core tools that will get used the most, stick to the HP brushless line, don't get the cheaper brushed tools.
      Third choice would be the DeWalt Atomic line for a DIY'er.

      It is hit and miss with both brands, i dont think Dewalt has enough good models to justify buying into it but since you are already in you only need to stay updated on which models are good. Its hard to stay in only 1 ecosystem, I bought into Makita 40v but the lack of subcompact tools/batteries, and no available ratchet or multicutter, forces me to continue the LXT line alongside XGT.
