  • Thank you for watching my first youtube video. I am happy to share all the little details that go into making board-on-board style fence. For this project, the materials we used were pressure treated posts and rails, 1x6x6 redwood dog-ear pickets, 1x4 redwood trim, and 2x6 redwood top cap, gate frame by "adjust-a-gate" (link below). All fastened with galvanized ring-shank nails and 3.5'' deck screws.

That’s a great looking fence and looks like it was a lot of work.

If there is another house 50 feet in the air above and directly behind your house, what is the benefit or point of a privacy fence?

What the heck!? I would not want someone to short my yard by half feet here and there I want all the ground I own used! Posts 7 feet apart and wood instead of steel, wood probably with no finish on it, too big of gaps in the gate. This fence could have had a better guarantee of lasting longer without repairs if you payed attention to the details like your title says.

You must be sippin on that haterade Mr. Jay B. Although I feel it is a waste of time, I will go ahead and address your concerns. Whenever I build a fence, I bring out the owner to verify where the string line is prior to constructing the fence. The instructions were to come just inside of what the CCRs require, which is a 5 ft set back. We also had a transition in landscape from bark to rock, and irrigation to avoid, so thats why we came in 6 inches. If you cant tell by looking at the posts, they have a dark tint, which means they are treated. Steel posts are twice the price, and owners always have the option. And lastly, when having a 2x6 top cap on the gate, you need to have a slight gap to allow it to open properly. I would love to see a video of a fence that you build.
