I have this exact fence and wish you'd built it! I've had every problem you mentioned. It appears my vertical boards shrunk, so in a strong wind they blew out, so I'm now replacing the 1x1 trim with 1x2 to hold them in better rather than replacing all the vertical boards.

Thank you for specifying the type/grade of lumber used. The fence videos I've seen so far don't mention it.

I've done dry cement into holes and used a form i built to put around the post and it fill it up with the quick dry and it had worked fine for me.

I would like to say thank you for making this video it was very helpful to me in my project. Over here in Palm Springs California we do get a lot of wind and I believe the way that you've had the fence built seems very sturdy and would last many years.

I would have liked to seen how the entire fence was put together on both sides.

The other side is identical. Thats why I didnt bother showing it. Sorry that wasn't clear. That's why they call it good neighbor fence, looks good for both of you.

Looks like a solidly planned fence. Would you clarifying... When you use the 1x2 as trim/cleats, how are these fastened to the support rales? Seems they are too tall to fasten down or up respectively. But I can see where say a 1x1 would feel a little flimsy to handle fastening the pickets.

This video is funny, the soil is piled up against the fence right behind him

The fir that is used for the posts are just pressure treated right?

Live on a corner lot and need about 720ft of fence on the side facing street..My yard sits high so neighbors can see inside from outside..The fence that we have is still ok and steady but she wants a new taller fence just like the one ur showing on video. She wants all the gaps blocked and taller fence 7ft and also we may add lattice...My question is if it is worth it just to replace the side fence and a little bit in the front without replacing the rest of the fence (neighbors fence)? Will this look good or is it better just to save more money and replace the whole thing around house?? The rest of fence around house is nice and steady but if we replace street fence it will be nicer and taller compared to the rest of the fence.

Nice fence. How are the planks secured?

Hi Jeff. I noticed someone asked a question I was interested in as well. I'm hoping to learn how you fastened the 1x2s to the 2x4 sand/or the 4x4s. Noticed someone else inquired about this but there was not a response, fingers crossed.

Does anyone know if they use staples or nails for the fence boards?

Nice. It looks like it looks good on both sides, but I can't quite tell. Does it look good on both sides? Why do a lot of contractors like to do the dry cement technique?

He didn't say but those boards are installed slanted and they overlap each other. It's the only video of a Good Neighbor fence of this design I can find on UA-cam.
Note: Just found out it's also called a PICTURE FRAME LOUVERED FENCE and since both sides looks the same it's a PICTURE FRAME GOOD NEIGHBOR LOUVERED FENCE!

I did a 60 foot fence with a gate for 3k in the valley, I'm about to start a job in the bay where the customers said they were quoted are 6-10 thousand for a straight 60 foot fence

Ditto. I live in Santa Clara. Building materials are ridiculously expensive. Worse, you can't even find them when you need them.

    • @garypremo
      @garypremo 2 роки тому

@@scouserrr The materials make up a minor portion of the cost. Many contractors will not break down their estimate between materials and labor because they don’t want you to know that materials, even in this market are maybe 30% of the estimate, tops.
