  • Doc walks you through his wood fence build. THE LINKS → www.howtowithdoc.com/custom-b...
Doc shows how to build the 6 foot + privacy fence that many have asked about. This style of wood fence adds SO MUCH to a property instead of a "boring" standard style wood fence. The cost is about 25% more but well worth the investment.

I do loads fencing in the UK. We normally go at least 1ft in the ground for every 3ft above the ground. Always go deeper than wider like you say. We say it's a common curtsey to give the nice side of your fence to the neighbors, but you don't have too. We would add a gravel/kick board at ground level to save the main fence from rotting. This fence looks really well made. It's looks really nice. Love seeing how other contractors work.

Dayuuum! That’s a lot wood my friend! Beautiful finish. Excellent content coverage. That’s easily a $25-$35k job
In Texas, that would’ve cost around $30k. I have a 180 linear ft. Board on board cedar. Estimate was $10k w/ stain; 7 guys did an excellent job. They enjoyed the 15 pizza’s we provided. Anyway, your fence is by far THE BEST WOODEN FENCE I’ve seen in a residential area. HOA folks would’ve had a baby in my area. I bet your neighbors are loving you!!

Do you have to consider the water table at the beach when setting the fence posts? Hope the project goes smooth, beach communities have different construction priorities.

Hi Doc, can you tell me where you purchased the wood slats and materials for the fence. Some of the pressure treated wood I see have a dark green hue and the lumber you used has a a very slight green hue, it doesn't look like much. i don't think you can stain the darker green lumber to come out as nice as what you did. Thanks for the video, help and advice.

I know screws would've been more time consuming and cost more, but what's your thoughts on using a nail/nail-gun opposed to screws on your fence or really any fence for that matter?

Nice! Does the shade from the fence affect your Bermuda? Second, a few months back you teased about a shade tollarent Bermuda being developed. Any updates?

Wondering if the 30 Second Cleaner would be the best choice to clean my solid stained (lightly colored) fence. I stained it a year and a half ago, but afraid whatever I use will take the finish off.

Hey Doc, what do you think about TifGrand Bermudagrass? It’s supposed to be shade tolerant. It’d be a cool experiment for the spring!

In the video you mentioned butting the 2x4s to the 4x4s in the corner of the fences and to the gates. Could you elaborate how the corners are done? The video shows the example of the gate but not the corners. Why do the corners need to be done?

They should have used galvanized fence rail connectors. Your fence will twist and come apart much easier in a few years. The way they did it is the quick and easy way.

I noticed you built your fence behind your old one. Did your neighbor complain you were building on their property? Reason I ask, I had a neighbor build their fence on my side of the proper line...it was a mess to deal with.
