Australian Ford ranger owner here, the issue we experience here with the blend door actuator is they are over greased from factory, this grease in summer heats up and spreads through the actuator internals eventually coating the contacts in the actuator resulting in incorrect aircon settings (hot one side, cold the other) and /or it fails to find home position when the cars turned of causing that rat behind the dash sound. Never heard on any of our ranger forums of anyone having the whole unit replaced like what you are going through, even Ford Australia just replace the actuator itself. I experienced this, removed the actuator, split it in half and cleaned up the contacts, a 20 minute job and 2 years later it is still working perfectly, so it’s interesting to see what your going through. Cheers for sharing your experience with this, nice rig too by the way and g’day mate from Australia
same also here in the Philippines. in fact they can repair the actuator or buy a new one ( cost php 1,500). there are 4 actuators in the aircon ( 2 on the driverside and 2 in the passenger). I guess in the US the labor cost is high due to time constraint thats why instead of repairing, they change the whole assembly. I hope ford will change its supplier of these actuators. thanks for sharing this video.. stay safe
My local dealer wants over $700 to fix this. I’m curious how you accomplished this in 20 minutes because I feel like mine is just stuck like your comment says. Can you tell me the location of the actuator in how you were able to get it unstuck ?
Hey Adam, thanks alot for this insightful comment. I had the "rat behind the dash" on my actuator on the fresh air or reciriculate. And now I don't have any heat, and again it sounds like the blend door not finding home, do you perhaps have any advice how you sorted yours out?
There’s an SSM that pertains to this issue if your ranger was built on or before 07-20-2020 they have you replace the the whole climate control housing, not just the actuator. I have done several of them. The housing is out of tolerance and causes the doors to stick and bind and it ruins the actuators. So they made new housings that are “more robust”.
Great to listen to you. My 16plate Wildtrak has had the a/c gas repressured and it's not working again. The compressor isn't switching on but I understand that when the gas pressure drops that won't let the clutch activate. The leak isn't within the engine bay. So my question is, is it the unit you have shown or a poor joint or other?
My 2019 Ranger just developed this issue in the last week. Only 35k kms Haven't had to use cold air since November and now it's only blowing hot air. Taking it to the dealer this week so we'll see how it goes. Appreciate your videos on the situation.
I just got my 2019 Ford Ranger back from the shop after having this issue fixed (under warranty thank goodness). When I dropped it off all of my parking aid sensors were working and now I have none. The mechanic that worked on it says they were not working when he pulled the truck in to fix it, even though they were working when I parked it in their lot. I know this because they sounded when I parked to let me know how close to the fence I was.. Now when I turn the truck on I get a dash alert on my parking aid and a picture of the truck with a red exclamation mark on the sync 3 screen. My question is: Judging by how empty the cab of your truck was when yours was fixed, is this something that just didn't get hooked back up correctly? I apologize for posing the question here but I cannot find anything that comes close to answering the question anywhere else. If it's just coincidence okay, but if the mechanic is not being truthful, that is another story and I just don't have the knowledge to be able to tell the difference.
Just turned my A/C on today and I had cold air only on the passenger side. I got 46k on it so I'm within warranty for my 3rd party warranty coverage. Gonna call tomorrow and get it scheduled. Gonna make sure it's clean for the technician , feel bad for those flat rate guys. Hope it is put back together right, there is a lot going on in that dash. Thank you for the detailed video it helped put my mind at ease.
My actuator went out and was fixed a little over a month ago, and I believe it has just gone out again. So it sounds like the best thing is to replace the entire assembly and not just the actuator?
Have a similar issue on my 2019 ranger. On mine the actuator arm pops out of the track. Only takes a few minutes to pull the actuator off and re seat it back. Easy to do but annoying to have to deal with. Happens a few times a year
Funny I am having a blend door issue on my 2019 ford ranger when I turn my ac on I get cold on the pass side and hot on my driver side and found the blend door on the driver side not moving
Same on my 2019 Porsche Cayman..... Rubbish plastic units that fail/faulty from new ! Mine is currently blowing A/C cold from passenger vents, but ambient/warm from drivers vents. It is not dual zone either.
Just dropped my 2019 Ranger off at Ford to replace the hole HVAC unit. It’s around a $3000 repair. It has been paid for by the extended warranty. I purchased when I bought the truck.
Dang mines doing the exact same thing mine is under warranty but I don't like the idea of whole dash coming out already. As I am a automotive tech myself.
Does the warranty transfer? Like I'm thinking about buying a used 19 Ranger that has 15k miles. Worried about being stuck footing the bill on these issues.
I agree with you that you will always tend to hear and see bad posts over good ones on the various social media channels and pages. Unfortunately it creates this deep underly fear as an owner. I fell victim myself back when I owned a 2016 Mustang Ecoboost. There was all these talks about the "ecoboom". It bugged me enough to end up trading the vehicle in for a 2018 Mustang GT. Yes, these issues does not pertain to every vehicle out there. Just be mindful and keep and eye/ear out for the tell-tail signs. I still don't regret getting my GT nor my Ranger.
The dealer is changing the climate control assembly on my 2019 FORD RANGER as I am watching this video at home. It is a day and a half long job. The dealer is giving me a loaner car to use. The problem was hot air on one side and cold air on the other side with the AC on.
So I bought my 2019 Ranger and the ac blend door needed to be replaced. 3 weeks later it died again another 3 weeks at Ford truck is back and 1 week later ac dead once again. Ford took my truck and gave me a 2021 brand new stx rangee truck Friday today Thursday 6 days later truck is at Ford 318 miles no ac

Probably the same blend door used on my wife's 2014 Explorer, except in that case I only had to remove the glove box to get to a $20 servo. This looks crazy complicated.
Had my 2019 Ranger in the shop last week. The part is on back order until who knows when. Just had my wife’s 2014 explorer blend door replaced last year. That one was out of warranty and 1K out of pocket.
You got ripped off my dude. Even if it’s the drivers side which is the most difficult side to do, it shouldn’t cost more than $500 with sales tax. It only pays like 3-4 hrs to do.
I have a 2020 ranger now but the 15-18 Colorado have known AC issues and I found out the hard way. Chevy bought it back from me and did make it right but seeing this scares me It was a 90 day all out fight that I want no part of again.
@@NemesisDigitalMedia The Ac would just stop working sporadically the compressor would still be running but not cooling. The Freon levels were good and I checked them myself to be sure. The dealer should have replaced the whole assembly with the updated one. If they didn’t they’ll just fail again and again. I posted my work order
What are the symptoms? I am having issues with what I choose is not where the air comes out consistently.
My symptoms were a noise behind the dash sounding like a small actuator struggling to open. Not your typical clicking behind the dash.
