Hey Virginia! Two things.... on your thumbnails, something (anything) showing you smiling automatically gives you at least 30 seconds. Very pretty with a nice smile! Also, your comments about larger fonts on the thumbnail that can be read on a cell phone is the BEST ADVICE EVER? Anybody with less than perfect vision will skip small text! I do!!

I spend a lot of time on my thumbnails (usually). I think the most time I spend is not being able to choose what I want to use because I like so much of what I am doing. I have the problem of information overload. I want to put so much in the thumb I have tried to teach myself to tone it down some. But as I said, I love my subject matter and it's hard to decide my approach. It might take me 3 hours to make a thumb...I am a new sub to your channel and even though I have 18 years of youtube experience I have found your tips to be very useful and I am taking notes...I would love to talk to you someday!
I love, love this challenge! I’ve been dragging my feet to get started for years (so embarrassing), but i keep getting hung up on all the details and the process. This is the BEST content on content creation. I love how you film while going about your day. Thank you for all you do!
I have been watching your tips on video etc. I have a channel but recently I had to retire early at 61 due to mental illness. I started working on my bikes and using this to build up my old channel in the hope to be able to sustain my retirement. Thanks for the helpful work you are doing, I'm hoping it will help boost my channel. Cheers Dan
Past few months I’ve been doing your 3rd option which is simply taking a pic from the video I just made. I’ve also been placing on right side to make room for words on left side. You mentioned UA-cam puts stuff on right side which I never thought about. I try to limit words from Mr beast tutorials. And NEVER say the same thing in thumbnail and title. Good stuff in this video
"Thank you, Virginia. Your tutorial has been a huge help for someone like me who is just starting out. Among all the tutorials about thumbnails, I found yours the most enlightening." watching from philippines.

I'm an overthinker for sure. But your videos are definitely helping me to move through the video making and posting process faster. I hate making thumbnails and I have to admit it took up way too much of my time. I use Canva and have a free pro account as an educator. Going to definitely start using that screenshot method and 4 words or less!👍
Thankyou so much. Your tutorials are really easy to follow and straight to the point. I've come to a halt unfortunately, but after viewing your videos, I've now gone through all my reels etc and back on track! Thankyou so much :)
Young lady, you have made my world so much easier. I didn't know it was so easy to create thumbnails, especially for Instagram. I always wondered about that. Thank you soo much!!
Awesome job! Useful and fast moving information. I have tried a 30 days challenge on an other channel, where I uploaded a short everyday for thirty days. What time do you upload your videos?
I made a bunch of thumbnails on Canva, haven't made a video yet!!! How do I put the thumbnail onto the video itself. Is it when the video is uploaded??? Still trying to figure it out before I do anything else 😉. Thanks again and God bless 🙏. Miss Monique 🙂 🙏 🌷 💗
I just discovered your channel and, so far, am both learning and getting inspired. I stepped away from my channel for a year and am starting it up again. Your videos are just what I needed. Thank you!
Your videos are now helping me generate titles much easier, and now the thumbnails. I feel confident I will start growing my channel from zero. Thank you ❤❤
Virginia I love you so much right now! You just saved me so much time! I had know idea my iPhone had that feature of removing the background so quickly. What a time saver!
Wow, thank you so much for sharing how to quickly create a thumb nail. I didn't know that there were programs that automatically remove the backgrund. I once sat on Photoshop for 2 to 3 hours to crop out my face for a thumbnail 😁. What's also very admirable about you is how you get most important things straight to the point!
Hi Virginia. I have a QUESTION: as an artist I am more attracted by a thumbnail with a lovely artwork than the face of the artist. Would thumbnails showing a finished artwork work too? plus I'm in my 60s and don't always look great in fotos! 😢😂
You had my attention at thumbnails in 5 minutes because it can take me hours, days even and still my thumbnails are "ok". One point you shared about using your space as backdrops for the thumbnails, brilliant. What your process for making them look as though you are part of the image and not an add-in? This is an issue I am running into. Thanks.
I'm loving the validation from your video. I literally just created a thumbnail template in Canva this weekend. I probably didn't choose the best font and have too many words, but it's on brand and we're experimenting. Thanks for sharing what you've learned. 🌺🤙
Very helpful video with practical tips. Easy to do, hard to perfect! Also, hard to be patient enough to get enough data to know how to course correct. I will be watching your other videos (this is only my second video, but it is def worth watching!) Bravo!
Wow I just found your videos yesterday and been binge watching ever since. The say is true. When the student is ready the teacher will appear. Your videos has helped me so much. I’ve been wondering about the video file name when you upload to UA-cam but wasn’t sure. Thanks.
Super helpful! Just found your channel and you're rockin' it out! Some things are super obvious, but I appreciate hearing them so I don't have to do the mental figurings myself and just fast track my success. THANK YOU!

I am really loving these videos. I haven't started my channel yet, but with this series I have already scripted 4 videos and plan on recording very soon.
I would love to know how you make a template in Canva for the thumbnail. I've been watching all your recent videos. I'm trying to get my channel up and going again. I love all the info. Thank you so much! 💜
Amazing video it's been 7 months for me, and I am enjoying the journey slowly. Its also yo set your mind in the reason why you started a channel, if you burn ypurself for growth UA-cam can dissapoint you but if ypu focus on creating content that you enjoy, the algorithm will find ypu itself. Keep on creating, and I am doing the same ❤
@Virgina. Thank you for this valuable and timely nudge to overhaul the rather boring thumbnails that I create for UA-cam and LinkedIn posts. My biggest takeaway is, "Don't use the title of the video on the thumbnail!" Your advice helped me finally decide to stop including my guests' headshots on my thumbnails. I have been including my guests' photos to promote them as well. It's taking up valuable real estate, and there's no return on the investment on all the work I put into customizing to include the guest. I noticed that you do not change your podcast thumbnail for each episode. I am going to embrace this time-saving best practice as well. Could you please comment on the use of intro/outro screens? There seem to be very different opinions and contradictory advice, particularly on the intro. You might have created a video on this topic already, but I cannot find it at the moment.
Hi Virginia, thanks a million for sharing! I'm trying to decide between resurrecting my old channel or starting a new one and thumbnails were asuch a chore. Ques: Regarding Canva, are you using the free or paid version? I was wondering if the "remove the background feature" is available in the free version. Thanks again. Peace and blessings.
Great video with good tips. The topic itself is also important. You can make the best thumbnail and title but if the video idea is "episode X of super Mario brothers" there is just too much competition for that topic. I'm running into that issue and I know I have to try to figure out better ideas.
I've recently been despairing about my thumbnails. They *seem* fine, but my videos aren't being shown widely...so *something* is up! I don't make advice videos, so I know it's always going to be a bit harder, but still...273 videos in I sometimes feel like it's a waste of time. I'm going to keep watching your videos and trying your suggestions, and just wanted to say thanks again for all this wonderful advice.
This is one I find tough to navigate as a food channel. I know what what gets the click for me is the best-looking photo of the dish or food item I'm looking to make. But all the biggest creators in my channel kinda do their thumbnails the same way. It's a picture of them smiling and holding or pointing at the dish, most of the time. I definitely get the need for facial recognition, but I'm often torn between putting that same old big smile holding holding a plate of food style thumbnail and just trying to make a really great looking thumbnail of the food with text that helps grab the viewer. I was excited about the new thumbnail testing feature because I thought it would help me figure out which kind works better, but it's been kind of random. Often it's too close to call, even.

I've been using canva to create this videos I just started uploading and I love it!
I've found that your #3 suggestion is best for me, taking a screenshot and using Canva for the graphics. Keep the tips coming!
