I was just about to do this, but found my problem. vac leak on the A/C idle up valve. was idling around 2000, now its back down to around 1000. Its still a little high, I'd like it around 700-800 but I can live with it now. cheers!!! If I don't find any other vac leaks I may still end just adjusting it. Thanks for the Video!!

I had an issue on my toyota vios model 2003 when i service my throttle body. The rpm going high on 2000 rpm, and i decide to sent my car to service centre cause i expect it has to be reset. After the reset, the rpm still on 2000 rpm and the mechanic adjust the idle speed to low and he suspect my vsv is dead. After i run it by drive my car for a while...my rpm going to normal. My question is, should i adjust back my idle speed to normal? Because the mechanic set it to low...but rpm is on normal idle 800 or 900 rpm idle...thanks

I have 1.6l 1993 corolla with 131K km on it, when I try to give it gas to speed up there is no response and it does jot downshift, it slowly pick up speed. Someone recommended ignition coild replacement. My car also idles high rpm so when i shift in drive, the car jerks hard to engage in drive, it almost died onbme twice but never died and it never happened after that but the lack of power continues. Allen wrench is L shaped with 6 sides. speed up the idle speed turn the Allen wrench clockwise. Lock it in by using the end wrench clockwise to tighten the setting fixed.
Hi Peter!! Im having an issue with my 88 corolla 4wd with the 4A-F engine. When the car is hot it will occationally miss in idle and run rough. The idle is 1000rpm. Cold start runs fine but the idle is very high. When Im driving the car it will hesitate or miss in 4th and 5th gear when accelerating. When i accelerate in 2nd and 3rd gear i havent noticed an issue. The car has sat for a long time. I recently added 10 l of new fuel and replaced the timing belt, sparkplugs and did a general service. I cleaned the ignition rotor and cap. Im not familiar with the 4A-f engine. I have 2 other corollas that are older with the 4A engine and 3A. What should I check and see what can be wrong? Hey Peter Finn. I have a ae101 with a 5A engine. I know my idle valve is stuck cause I've seen it. I just got a new throttle body to replace it. Will this help my idle low problems? It runs low when ac is off and extremely low when on.
An update, this is not fully correct. You have to wait for operation tempature and then short the TE1 & E1 at diagnosis port before adjusting the screw. By shorting the TE1 & E1 the ECU will not perfrom any idle up so you can setup the lowest idle rpm when hot, it should be 800-950 rpm depends you are fully stock, manual transmission, light weight flywheel or you don't want a second drop of rpm when AC kicks in. For the repair manual it suggest 800 rpm but for me i set it to 950 rpm so it never fall below 700 rpm even sudden clutch in or AC kicks in when hot (when AC is on the ECU will adjust your idle to 800 rpm no matter how low your idle is) If you don't short the TE1 & E1 and just adjusting the screw like the video, the ECU will later lower back the idle for you using the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC), then you have to back and forth the procedure until the IAC is fully closed and ECU cannot even lower the idle for you

Hi peter, I have a 2002 corolla S. Check engine light is on, giving me code p0301, ( misfire cylinder 1 ) After replacing the coils, spark plugs and fuel injectors, code p0301 keeps popping up. The car shuts off when I’m in reverse. I inspected the fuel pump and my battery everything works fine What could be the problem ?
I wish someone had a Toyota Corona 1988 ST170 so i could see how to change the idle speed on my car. Mine is different to this it has two wires connected to a wheel that when you press the accellerater the wheel moves and the car revs.

Check any vaccum leak, water temp & it's sensor (the one to ECU not the the one to cluster or the raditor fan), ignition timing also. If all checked then maybe capacitance leak inside the ECU casuing it failure
Shouldn't you have waited for the engine to reach normal operating temperature before starting any adjustments? Because if at that temperature, the ECU might still be making settings for the engine to run at fast idle.

Clean your throttle body valve with a carb cleaner or air intake parts cleaner. Check all your vacuum hoses and air intake hose for leaks and damage. Check if your coolant temperature sensor is bad. There are videos on how to do these in UA-cam and in Mr. Finn’s channel.
You adjusting the wrong screw. U will screwed up the TPI sensor alignment. U should know how the IAC works and what voltage required on the electromagnets inside during cold idle and warm idle. During cold idle , I measured about 8V and the RPM was in 1.5 and the IAC valve is open little bit After warm up ,the voltage is O volt meaning the IAC valve is totally closed

THIS IS NOT THROTTLE ADJUSTMENT!!!! That is so not ok! AISAN (Yes aisan not aisin) Throttles for Toyota SOMETIMES have a screw to adjust idle speed but it's under the rubber (right corner on top if You looking a fron of 'pipe' to manifold)! If Your throttle have no rubber in a corner that means this throttle has no screw to adjust!
I got the repair manual, which does mention about that right corner top screw. That is true for 4A-FE engines . The 3S-GE/GTE and 5S-FE engines as you see here in this video has it in that complicated spot.
You really should take this down - this is not the idle adjust screw, it is factory set and should not be tampered with. My son screwed up his throttle body adjustment following this. If people have an idle problem with these cars, they should check for vacuum leaks first, then the TPS, and the idle air control valve.

I had same issue, after replaced map sensor, air temperature sensor the idle went to the normal

There is idle speed sensor in throttle body. So, replace new or better throttle body.

Yes, it helps. The idle valve is inside the throttle body.

Look at the end of the screw you're turning with the Allen key... It should touch the bit which moves the throttle cable

AISAN (Yes aisan not aisin) Throttles for Toyota SOMETIMES have a screw to adjust idle speed but it's under the rubber (right corner on top if You looking a fron of 'pipe' to manifold)!
If Your throttle have no rubber in a corner that means this throttle has no screw to adjust!

I got the repair manual, which does mention about that right corner top screw. That is true for 4A-FE engines . The 3S-GE/GTE and 5S-FE engines as you see here in this video has it in that complicated spot.

You really should take this down - this is not the idle adjust screw, it is factory set and should not be tampered with. My son screwed up his throttle body adjustment following this. If people have an idle problem with these cars, they should check for vacuum leaks first, then the TPS, and the idle air control valve.
