    Hey bro, sounds like your from New Zealand, I'm from Auckland and have a 1994 2E Toyota Corolla Hatch, it has a bit of a rough idle and sometimes has smoke coming out the back of it, I believe it would possibly be the mixture setting as when I bought the car a few weeks back the guy had it on high idle, I remember seeing him touch the idle setting crew so one morning I adjusted it and made it rev lower, it was when it was about cold / warming up, seems to be good now and I know I can adjust that bit easily. I will have a go at the mixture setting but beforehand I was wondering if you were possibly in Auckland for you to have a look at it if your keen, would pay you for your time etc and if it can't be possible due to you being elsewhere, then I'll just try my best to follow these awesome videos you have here. Top notch stuff man, your really an expert on these (hopefully you cbk on a bit of a tune up hahaha) Cheers bro

    Thanks to you for the video. I'm glad I watched it. It's been very insightful for 2E engine owners like me, for example. There are very few videos (if none) about this engine in English language. I'm from the South of the Americas and this was one of the engines we were sold back in the days. I didn't know that in New Zealand this engine existed as well. Or am I wrong?

    Good video helped me to better understand how the carb works on my Starlet. Though my starlet has the 1E engine the carbs are similar but the one on my Starlet is not an Auto Choke. and the lack of information has been driving me up the wall. I cannot seem to find manual for the Starlet. well one that is not an original Toyota one. May have to bite the bullet. The 1E is quite annoying as there is bugger all info on it. As far as i know it was only available in the Starlet and only from 84 to 92. Also do you know of any tuning options for these carbs. are you able to get more out of them than standards. Yes 54HP is good but could do with more. Though I have seen E series engines with Bike carbs or webbers so i may be better off going down that route. Cheers

    Hi thanks for the informative video, I have watched you other video on setting the carb while its in the car aswell
    I have a question cause information on these cars are hard to come by, I am having a problem where when the car is parked overnight, i have to pump the acellerator for like 30 seconds before the car can start, so basically hold the starter for 5 seconds and pump pump pum then 3-4 seconds break, then another 5 seconds and so on... eventually the car will start and idle normally and drive normally... What would cause this?

    Hi Jamie. I have an issue with my idling speed. It runs high when cold like it is suppose to, but idle speed doesnt come all the way down at normal operating temperature. Out of desperation I adjusted the fuel mix screw, now the engine is running hot in addition to running high. Do you have remedy for this will be highly appreciated.

    Do you know the consequences of replacing all the vacuum valves with one way check valves (or removing completely)? The transmitting valves are nearly impossible/worth as much as my car to get here in the Philippines so was thinking maybe I could do this. I also had my vacuum switch valve break off. Is that only needed to heating car? Would it hurt to just plug up indefinitely? Don't really need heat here. Thanks for video!

    Hey, I have a corolla ee90 which I think th eengine floods when it's not cold, my mechanic says it's ware a taire since the carb is over 30 years old, could it be bad cleaning and adjustment? what makes me think it runs rich is the fact that it bogs down and some times when it bogs down and turns off only at the 3rd crank the engine turns on but there is a strong smell of petrol. if you could give any adive it would be great

    Hi Jamie, thanks for the video! Have been following your content for a while now. I have an issue with this Carburettor on a 2E where it will run high at 3k rpm on cold start and will only settle to 900-1k when the the engine is at full operating temperature. I have to leave the car until the engine is stone cold or the choke will not come on at all. Choke doesn't seem to come off unless the auto choke assembly is set all the way to lean. Could be an issue with the choke actuator but not entirely sure to be honest. Apologies if this doesn't narrow anything down but I was wondering if you'd have any ideas as to what the problem is?
    I have taken this to a couple of classic car garages and they haven't managed to get anywhere.

    hi jamie! my corolla e100 with 2e engine will shake and/or stall on operating temperature when coming to a stop, or turning from neutral to drive from idle, or putting it on reverse, or turning the steering wheel fast during stop. what could be the problem? should i turn up the base idle speed? but i feel like the rpm when i put it in neutral is already high. my car model came without an rpm meter, so i cant really tell.

    • @notcompletelyobsolete
      @notcompletelyobsolete  Рік тому +1

      Possibly the idle mixture screw is too far in (lean). This is the screw which sometimes has a tamper proof shroud over it, jamming a small flathead screwdriver between the screw and shroud allows you to adjust it without cutting or removing the shroud. Try winding this out about a turn and then adjust the base idle speed to around 800-900 rpm. If you still have idle issues, the passage ways or idle jet could be clogged and will need cleaning. Hope this helps

    • @notcompletelyobsolete
      @notcompletelyobsolete  Рік тому +2

      I’ve found that the idle mixture screw has very little effect on fuel economy. If you have a smooth idle, I would recommend leaving this adjustment alone. If you do need to adjust this, I briefly mention how to adjust in my carburettor adjustment video

    hello can u help me? antifreeze is leaking from my carburetor. Please help with the gasket, what can it be made of and maybe you have some template that you can share with me? Thank you very much if you help, I will be very grateful!

    • @notcompletelyobsolete

      There is a phenolic spacer that separates the carburettor and the intake manifold, might be worth checking that there are no cracks around that. The original gaskets tend to go brittle can leak especially after disassembly etc. I used automotive gasket paper to make the two gaskets that go either side of the spacer. I traced around the original gasket and mating surface to get the shape and cut the gasket to suit

    • @sleepdagger1064
      @sleepdagger1064 Рік тому

      @@notcompletelyobsolete Thank you very much for the answer! I removed the carburetor and the original gaskets were glued to the plastic backing. Can you tell me what material you made the new gaskets from? I tried to make them from paronite, but for some reason antifreeze starts to leak out through it and the car warms up very badly. I have a 92 Toyota Corolla E90.

    • @notcompletelyobsolete
      @notcompletelyobsolete  Рік тому

      Any automotive gasket paper with a similar thickness to the oem gasket should work well. From memory, i used a gasket paper with a thickness of 0.6mm. If the mating surfaces are perfectly clean and flat (check with a straight edge and feeler gauges, there should be no reason for coolant to leak from the assembly. Hope this helps…
