This video is extremely helpful. I just bought a climbing stick and stand combo and the first time setting it up was difficult trying to figure out how to place everything but you gave me some good tips to try. Thank you
Really appreciate your insight and methods. Im 33 trying to DIY my way to hunt whitetail. Appreciate you, sir!
This video is extremely helpful! It is making my decision to purchase a setup like this much easier! Thank you!
This video was great. I got my first tree stand for xmas, a muddy boss xl. I’m now going to look into a bracket for it. It would be extremely helpful to have something holding it in place so i can strap it down. Thanks again!
Great video. Almost my exact method.
I like your loops for carrying sticks on your side better. I’ll use that.
My treestand modern Hawk Helium. I put a small loop paracord near seat. When I get up I screw in a little hook. Pull stand up and hang on hook with the cord. Let’s me then put the 2 straps to tree very easy.
Look forward to more of your videos.
I found this helpful. When I bought my Novix Echo I was looking for a video like this for ideas. This is not for the faint of heart but it is doable with practice. I’m 50 years old. Even though his hang on is different than mine this video is still applicable. My goal is to use this setup and get a deer with archery on public land. I already have a buck and doe using ladder stands on private property which feels like cheating compared to a hang on! 😂
Nice economical realistic setup and technique overview and even though your stuff is mostly Muddy, you did not push hard trying to sell it. Much appreciated.
The Stihl GTA26 pruner is fantastic for taking into a tree while setting up ladders, i recommend it to everyone using stands
Wow thanks so much for showing clearly what’s needed to set up a tree stand. I’m gonna be going for the first time this fall
And wasn’t sure what I needed
That is a lot of gear but you’re totally dialed in with it. I appreciate the in depth explanation. I’m still using a traditional climber but would love to be more versatile in tree selection. Thanks for the tips.
Nice to see a standard hang on set up instead of only saddle set ups !
Good video thanks definitely gave me some good ideas 👍
Great insight and video. I started mobile hunting last year and I like it. Thanks.
Great video! Very good tips and tricks 👍🏼. Thanks
Man great video. Thank you
Thank you for this wonderful video. It's really good and very interesting.
Great Video. As far as getting down. Are you using the lineman’s rope to get back down? How do you stay connected in between disconnecting and when putting the lineman’s rope back on? Hope this makes sense.
Yes I do the same thing as getting on the stand in reverse order. Put the bottom rope around the tree, disconnect the top rope, and climb down to the sticks
Definitely should be hooking up to your lifeline before stepping into the stand but I am guilty of doing it that way sometimes when I am in a hurry.
I get it that it looks scary, but he has his lineman rope connected whole time before and after stepping on. Too much redundant safety stuff and things just ain’t gonna get done.
Id have myself strapped to the tree upside down somehow trying to use this method! I've got too much bad luck to try this
Thank you.
So you're doing all this in pitch black at 5 in the morning?
Absolutely.. practice makes perfect . In Military training we trained a lot under darkness and it becomes second nature .
Bro just use a headlamp
i literally do this in the dark with no headlamp it’s not hard
It’s not hard
lol when was the last time anyone here saw “pitch black “ in the woods lol
Really helpful thank you great video
Great video, thanks!
How do you carry it all in ? Carry the stand and bow and have the pack on back. Or do you put your stand on your pack
Carry the stand in my hand, bow in the other, and the sticks strapped to my pack 👍🏻
Great video and you are an excellent teacher.
Why are you not using carabiners for all this? It would be a lot easier to unclouded rather than untie.
Ill be honest, i think noise l (to a certain degree) is overblown. I was setting up a hang on for the very first time ever last weekend, so you can imagine how loud it was despite my best efforts. Like an idiot, i even dropped my bow hanger from up there. Had a doe and a buck walk within 40 yards no more than 10 minutes after I got settled in. As long as you're not throwing a party ratchet straps won't send them running in the other direction. I was even on public land so they're aware of hunters out there
Which stand is that by muddy ?
Weight ?
Muddy Vantage, it’s no longer available for sale
How far a you going to carry your stand like that?
The furthest I’ve walked with this setup is about a mile and a half in
The muddy pro sticks are the best sticks you can buy for the money. I pretty much have the same set up as you. I will always use a hang on stand. The saddle thing aint for me!
Why not just use a climbing tree stand?
Most of the trees I hang a stand in have many limbs and are odd shaped so a hang-on stand works better for me from a flexibility standpoint
I understand. I've never used a hang on stand but after watching your video, I might be experimenting with one.
Those muddy stands were way too heavy for a hang and hunt.
Honestly it seems much easier to just buy one of those light weight collapsible ladders and strap it to your pack instead of all that crazy climbing and acrobatics to get things situated. Then when you're done for the day, leave your stand and just carry out your ladder and next time you only have half the work to do. And nobody can mess with your stuff cause there's no way up to it
Curious how much noise those collapsible ladders are? I have heard they can be very squeaky after a season or two?
When I’m ratcheting to the tree I just cough real loud to cover the sound.
😂
Man ill be honest lost faith in this setup seems like a whole lot of moving pieces especially if trying to get in quickly and quietly at dark
It’s definitely not for everyone, but it sure has worked great for us!
Whats the gameplan for a tired 39 year old getting back into hunting….not sure its this!
I'll be 47 this year and running a similar setup with a only few differences. Age is only a number my friend.
@@tristanmiller494152 and moving to a saddle soon. Not always a number but it's like shooting 70 or 75 lbs, work up to it. Use it or lose it!
Wish I was still 39. Get back in shape and enjoy this age.
Great info here on getting up and down the tree safely. One thing you said that I do not agree with is sometimes you grab a tree limb to get into your stand. This I would have to respectfully disagree with. Never use a tree limb when climbing a tree it’s one of the first rules for tree stand safety. I understand that you like your mobile set up and that's great but why do a review on products that are no longer available? Run and gun / mobile set ups have come a long way and are much lighter than the old muddy gear. A good run and gun set up is not cheap but you only need to buy one set and it will last you a lifetime. Personally I have went to a saddle for my run and gun set up and I love it! When it comes to cutting down on weight a saddle set up is hard to beat.
I just ordered my first saddle set up I can’t wait to pull down my 20 or so fixed tree stands. I have enough metal in the bush to build a tank and it’s so much effort to get it up the deer patterns changing year to year, stands getting stolen, looking forward to the lightweight run and gun set up I hope it works for me! Saddle Hunt in here in Alberta Canada is unheard of not a hunting store within sight selling it everything I bought had to come out of the US churching churching churching bring cash
It was not a review on the unit but how to set up a tree stand.
It doesn’t seem very fast with all that stuff lol
Muddy stopped making the super plate worst thing they ever did
Seems more like a paid commercial
Nah - not even close.
Loud af set up and slow. I hope you aint carrying that tree stand in your hands for 1 to 2 miles on public land. 😂
No wonder they discontinued this tree stand.
Compared to some of the high refined 6x the cost setups nowadays. Realistically this is a practical nice economical setup and now a person just has to put in the time and hunt.
A video showing equipment no longer available. Think about it.
The techniques are still applicable and many setups available very similar.
So apparently you don’t scout your way in to hang n hunt
Geesh dude, he is showing us how he sets it up. we are not on a hunt with him.
Always gotta be someone to find anything negative. Chill bro.
Great tutorial! Do you ever leave your stand and sticks in the tree for a full season?
I will leave other stands and sticks all season, but this particular setup is my run-and-gun mobile setup that I take down and move from hunt to hunt
Great to see. Wish I could have gotten one of these stands back in the day. Too bad they’re no longer available
