  • I go over everything a beginner mobile hunting hunter needs to know about climbing with sticks and hanging a hang on tree stand. I am using an XOP Vanish and Lone Wolf sticks I modified down to 20" and added stealth strips plus a cable aider.

As promised in the video, here are the links.

I bought cable aiders from double step .com, I got my lone wolf sticks used. Novix makes equivalent short sticks but much cheaper to get used.

For one-handed operation, you might consider using a "prusik tender" on your lineman's rope.

I can't believe these hunt-tubers lol 😆 they don't want tags blowing in the wind but they use a Aider at the tree bottom just blowing in the wind lmao 😆

I leave them. I figure if the wind is blowing enough to move straps, aiders, etc... It's blowing everything else around me and the deer aren't gonna notice or care

For public land do guys typically scout the day before and hang a stand or do they do this in the morning?

It’s best to know where your going in the dark. So probably better to scout before and mark trees to get in. If not, sometimes it’s better to wait until it just starts getting light to set up.

    The lineman's belt.
If you try this without it, holy cow... It is a pain. Holding on to the tree with one arm while holding the stand with the other and then trying to wrap the straps around it too..
And the hang-on stand is the old ones made of steel and not aluminum..
Not even worth it without the belt.

What backpack straps are you using attached to your stand?

Military Ruck straps, you can find them at military surplus stores, online or eBay.

Haha picked them up for $100 on FB marketplace. Much cheaper than buying any type of mini stick new. But yeah, wouldn’t have paid full retail to cut them down.

Ya il just deal with the extra 2lbs lmao 🤣 the point of the sticks are to get you in and out safely not some sketchy DIY setup with a rope ladder lol. At this point you are better off just getting a climber and cut weight that way. I sure hope nobody does this stupid shit and gets hurt cause you are completely setting new hunters up to fail.

It’s a rope climbing aider tested and approved for higher breaking strength. I’ve done over 200 setups with this system and have not had a single issue. If it’s not something you would be comfortable with and your system is working no harm in sticking with it. But I don’t believe this is setting up new hunters to fail.
