  • New 2024 Honda Super Cub 125 Review, Specs, Changes Explained +Today More! Today we're taking a close look at the 2023 Super Cub 125 motorcycle, also known as the C125. Honda also makes a Super Cub 50 and Super Cub 110 but sadly, not available for sale here... This 125cc motorcycle is part of Honda's miniMOTO bike lineup where you have some retro / vintage styled bikes that have returned like the CT125, also known as the Trail 125 / Hunter Cub and the Monkey 125 as well as the DAX 125 / ST125! Plus you have the more modern styled, new mini bikes from Honda with the Grom 125. Some do consider the Super Cub 125 as a scooter, due to its semi-automatic transmission but it's not a fully automatic setup, so you still have to change gears but without a clutch so it's one of the easiest motorcycles to ride that's for sale at dealerships today!
    Check out the latest new 2023 motorcycle models to be announced by Honda that include everything from adventure motorcycles, to cruiser bikes, mini bikes, scooters, scrambler motorcycle models and everything in between that were just announced at EICMA in this video: • NEW 2023 Motorcycles &...

    What do you guys think Honda should change next on the Super Cub? ...and who likes the new Pearl Gray color over last year's Matte Gray Metallic? 👇
    ☆ ERROR: I'm an idiot... I had the CT125 on my mind when talking about the front brakes, the C125 (Super Cub) does NOT have a two-piston caliper like the CT125 but instead, a single-piston setup. I wanted to go back in and correct this but my computer is crashing every time I try to export the corrected video, so we're running with this - before I lose my insanity and throw my laptop through the window lol!

    My next door neighbor had a cub 50 and it was in their garage for many years. I don't know when they got rid of it. Then in 1983 I went to Korea and there were literally thousands of Honda Cubs over there. They were being licensed built by Kia, and were called Kia Hondas, with a 110cc engine. I grew up riding a 50cc Honda mini-trail and later I acquired my brother's Trail 70 with 4 speed in it. This family of engines is the closest thing to bulletproof you'll find anywhere so if you get a Super Cub, it can virtually last you forever.

    "Less likelihood of you doing this" made me laugh. About 20 years ago my buddy thought he was hot poop on a bike and decided to redline my Cub 90 before stamping it in to first - while pointing at a house wall. The bike went instantly to 12 o'clock and rode up the wall about a foot with both wheels before tipping over and landing on my friend's face.

    I have a 2022 Super Cub. Love the matte black, but also love this year's Pearl Grey. The first things I bought for my Super Cub were a side stand, rear rack, rear seat and rear foot pegs. All OEM. I'd love to have the European gear shifter and lights but not enough to try to get them. Agreed about the gas tank - stupid small. Id like to see a USB charger, self canceling indicators, disk brake in the rear, more comfortable seat. I'd also love to get the new Super Cub 110, but we can't have those here because they're too cool and inexpensive. Can't wait for spring time so I can get back on it!

    • @HondaProKevin
      @HondaProKevin  Рік тому +1

      Nice! A lot of people give the Matte Gray Metallic a bad wrap but I think it's just because it was so different from the "norm" over the years.
      It's a shame you've got to jump through those hoops and American Honda doesn't offer them as accessories here in the US, if they aren't going to offer them as standard. lol oh yeah, I don't blame you there as those lights alone are not cheap!
      I like you're thinking on the updates! Haven't seen many mention a USB charger or self-cancelling signals but they'd be a nice creature comfort add-on.
      Oh yeah, I think the 110 would do well here and especially if they could offer it around the NAVi price point. They'd sell like hot cakes! Won't happen, but hey - we can dream!
      lol yeah buddy, fingers crossed spring gets here soon as I'm going insane! Ride safe and enjoy that Cub ;)

      @D R I have 3 old Cubs. 2 are 1981 70cc Honda C70 Passports and I have a 1962 Honda Super Cub C102. Unfortunately the 1962 came to me without the pushrod 50cc engine (the PO tossed it as irreparable) and an uninstalled, brand new, 70cc Lifan engine. So far, I haven't wanted a new Cub enough to even think about buying one but, it could happen in the future.

    • @jerrym3261
      @jerrym3261 Рік тому

      @D R They came to me hadn't run in decades and had a hard life when they were running. They are far from the 2% of motorcycles, in mint condition that bring the big bucks. I think I paid $600 total for the 3, worth more now since they run and worth the most to somebody that will cut them up into something I would call stupid. I'd kind of like dampening front and back, doubt I'll ever get to telescopic forks or real shocks and other than that, I like them as is.

    Like several million others I learned to ride (or at least how to fall off) on an old C50, I think was a 1968 model? When I was 8 years old in 1973 my dad bought one from his mate for a fiver and for the next 2 years me and my pal spent every weekend and school holidays thrashing the poor old thing down the farm tracks near where we lived. We rode miles on that thing until we managed to snap the frame and it was game over. There's a reason why they're the best selling bike of all time!

    Thanks for the review. I guess people either get this bike or they don't. I bought mine at the start of the year here in Aus. It's red and cream ( the only colour available) and has rear pegs and side stand as standard. If there was one thing I would ask for it would be the ability to do motorway speeds ( 110kmh ) reliably. But Honda is not bringing any more in to Australia because it doesn't have ABS on the rear, and the market is too small here for them to bother meeting that design rule. So I'm glad I've got one as they are becoming rare. 👍🇦🇺

    Changes that I would like to see:
    1. Replace the entire smart key paraphernalia with a simple dumb key.
    2. Replace the self starter with a kick starter.
    3. Those 2 changes would lower the weight, cost, and complexity of the bike.
    4. Offer a rear luggage rack the same size and weight capacity as on the trail model Super Cub.

    • @jackvoss5841
      @jackvoss5841 Рік тому +3

      And, here are more changes to simplify owner maintenance:
      1. Modify the interior of the engine so that:
      1A. You can gauge oil level with a simple dipstick. It is stupid, arrogant, or both to sell an engine where you first have to idle an engine for several minutes, shut it down, and then wait several more minutes so you can lay on the ground to squint at a side window to guess oil level! And, if you add oil, to have to repeat that arcane procedure to see if the oil level is OK - or too high. (This error may have been corrected in 2022 or 2023?)
      1B Have to partially dissemble the engine to gain access to the oil filters when changing oil. That should be easily accessible through a simple access plate with 3-4 simple screws.
      2. Modify the access route to the engine’s air intake filter. It should be accessible with only one or two simple screws. Instead, you are supposed to remove the shift lever, the entire leg fairing, and more to even remove the air cleaner to simply clean or replace it! An hour or two of work to do a 2-3 minute job is NOT a simple machine! It is a very poorly designed machine.

That helps to omit blinking as the generator pulses, and dimming out at low RPMs. The original Honda Cub that I owned over 60 years ago was the simple, reliable machine that could always be counted on.
      Now, I have to jury-rig a trickle charger on my Super Cub to keep the battery up during the winter. Not as reliable.

    Great review, Kevin... and thanks for the shout-out! I agree with all of your points on the Super Cub. In my opinion, this new colorway suits the Cub better than the "yet another blacked-out bike" look from last year. I'm still waiting for the rear disc brake and the side stand as standard components. I can understand the rear drum brake for cost savings, but the side stand is standard in other markets.
    Honda should definitely include the side stand as a standard feature on this bike... that was my biggest complaint with my 2019 Cub. It's awkward to hold the bike upright while stepping off of it and then propping it up onto the center stand. Some riders might not be comfortable with those gymnastics. It's much more convenient to prop it on the side stand and step off without worrying about balancing (or dropping) the bike.
    On the upgrade and improvement options, I've been preaching and dreeaming about a Super Cub Touring edition for years. Honda could increase the engine power slightly (PCX160 range), upgrade to the 5-speed transmission, a 2-3 gallon fuel tank, and related improvements in the suspension and brakes (e.g., longer swingarm, higher spring rates, stronger front & rear calipers, etc). The little Cub could be a superb lightweight touring platform and back road cruiser. I would DEFINITELY buy one of those! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      @HondaProKevin  Рік тому +3

      Appreciate the kind words and support as always QM!
      You're more than welcome, bud. You put out some quality content on all kinds of platforms so it's the least I can do and hopefully it helps bring a few eyeballs over ;)
      Oh yeah, this color scheme is a lot more "Super Cubby" as another guy said when compared to last year's Matte Gray Metallic. It was a nice change of pace for Honda to try something different though, which is a rarity. Yessir, definitely some cost savings going on there since they can't do a straight swap with the rear disk off the CT with them having different wheels, unlike some of the other 125s where they can just copy and paste.
      You hit the nail on the head there, a LOT of people that are new or fairly new to riding aren't comfortable with doing that all the time to throw it up on the center stand. They may fall in love with the bike on the showroom floor but if there's a tiny bit of feeling uncomfortable handling it, most won't pull the trigger and will move onto something else - not knowing that you can easily slap a side stand on it. That move from Honda is beyond baffling and I'd love to know their real reasoning behind it.
      Ahhh, I like your thinking there with a Touring spec! It'd definitely be a niche market but with these being sold around the world and in a lot of areas where they aren't "toys" like they are here in the US, you'd have to think that the numbers of people interested in purchasing would be up there, pending how crazy they got with pricing etc.

      The reason they sticked to 125cc is as in the United Kingdom you have a 125cc licence want to ride a bigger bike over 125cc and you need a different license and do a new test but you can have up to 16bhp in the uk on a 125 license so you could have upto 16bhp

    I was able to purchase the rack, seat, and foot pegs from suppliers in Thailand (check e-bay); and installation was uncomplicated.
    The swing arm must be drilled and tapped for the foot peg mounting screws, but the bungs are present on the US model, so this is a straight forward procedure.

    I absolutely love my 2020 C125 Super Cub. There are a few things that I would like to see addressed in future revisions, though, which I've addressed in a few of my own videos on the bike. It would be GREAT to see some actual optional extras--including but not limited to the option for a passenger saddle/footpeg bundle, a slight bump in power output so that it could realistically achieve 70+ MPH, a [slightly] larger fuel capacity, an optional windscreen, optional handshields, and some options for ACTUAL storage. I've already added a windscreen, a center storage pouch, the passenger saddle/footpegs, as well luggage behind them--total quality of life upgrades that are a MUST! I know that the aftermarket offerings are globally abundant, but I REALLY wish that Honda offered a full line of OEM addons and accessories. After all, this is the most popular motor vehicle ever made, it should be supported as such!

    Great information here about the new super cub. Thanks for that!
    I was going to get the Honda 2022 version, but 1-week before going to buy it a friend said why don't you check out other 125's you can get something else with more extras and cheaper!
    So I went and looked at the typical well known brands and thought, sure they are nice bikes but still expensive.
    The very next day I went to a dealership that sold Brixton, Zontes, and keeway... the G1 125 scrambler immediately caught my eye 👁️ . Seeing this bike from Zontes in person was a shocker! I mean the finish, the extras it comes with, gas mileage etc... Then everything came falling down when someone said it's made in China. Well crap, that didn't sit too well with me. Bursted bubble and all, I headed back home...
    Got on the web, to see what G1 Zontes owners thought about their bike, and plenty of reviews. It all seemed surreal, people were actually very happy with their purchase. Then not totally satisfied with that I investigated all I could on the company "Tayo" that makes them and was blown away with the following details...
    The company Tayo has one of the most modern motorcycle installations with robotics. They have 256 patents in engineering, and science. They have fabricated their own engines. They also make certain Mercedes Benz parts, build other engines for other motorcycle companies, are affiliated with the Ducati group. The owner is a very rich man that is interested in producing quality products, and offering them at very reasonable prices.
    So, I decided to get one myself! After 6 months of riding this incredible 125 G1 125 Scrambler that feels like a little tank. I found that on gravel, dirt roads, and paved roads it handled great.
    Overall I would say that this 125 liquid cooled, 4-valve engine at 14.5 horse power, with anti-rebounce clutch, full on LED, engine protection bars, adjustable mono shock, front and rear disc brakes, adjustable clutch and brake levers, 20-liter gas tank, with panel info showing, engine heat, gear your in, and has ABS Bosh braking, plus has a Bosh injection carb. And inverted forks!!
    Geez, for 3.500 euros I'd say that is not bad at all right!?
    But still, the Honda Super cub has a special place in my heart ❤️💜 when I can afford it I would love to get one.

    I love the Super Cub, i have a 2019 model and it's no exaggeration to say that i'm completely in love with the thing. There are a few major problems that won't hit you until you get in an accident though (was ran off the road by a pickup truc and ripped my leg shield) and that's part availability and prices.
    I'm in Europe, i have to replace my leg shield, right fork cover and front fender. These parts cost an ungodly amount of money for plastics, and for some reason these prices are exclusively European ($492 USD for the leg shield assembly compared to $280 in the US and about $200 in Japan). This is something all europeans who want to ride the Cub should be aware of.
    Of course we can just tank the shipping costs and order from Japan, it's just a few extra hundred dollars and we wait for the parts to come by plane, fuck then planet right? But i think parts should be available at normal prices in all regions.

    I like this year's colour from the gross colour of last year. I just can't understand why the cub doesn't come as standard with a sidestand and a colour matched top box large enough for a full size helmet, and gloves as an accessory. It's one of the reasons I'm sticking with my C90. Cheers

    I'm thinking about buying one to have fun around town. Missing my bikes and really don't want another heavy Harley at the moment. My back is bad and just trying to get them off the stands.

      That’s my story too, after riding heavy Harley Davidsons for years now my back is bad. I’m considering a used 2020 with 6000 miles on it.

    I agree with QM 100%. The color is much better on the C125 instead of the matte black on the 2022 models. People just don't see two wheeled small, quiet things like the Super Cub on the road. That's why I held off in buying a black scoot. I ride a white PCX150 and drivers still aren't paying attention. A side stand would be better because I would not be able to get my leg over the seat because of leg issues. Also, if I put a rack on the back and a milk crate for groceries, it would be impossible to get my foot past it. What's the stand over height between the PCX and the Super Cub in front of the seat? And I like the idea of a 4 valve head. I would think it would get more power and better fuel economy. Also a bigger fuel tank would be better too. Thank you for your excellent videos, Kevin.

      It's a Step-thru! There's no need ever to through your leg over a Cub for cargo or leg issues, etc when you own a step-through. I speak as someone who owned and rode one for years ('83 Passport C70.) Cheers.

    Best eva 125 was the MZ TS 125. It was physically a full sized bike but only weighed 103 kg.

    A bigger fuel capacity would be great, but the Supercub is obviously meant for farting around in town and the big tank isn't needed. Still, the bike looks super good! Good job Honda! Now, if they'd bring back a line of retro-inspired bikes in a CC of 250 and higher for the non-mecha crowd, that'd be great. My first 3 bikes were Hondas and I'd really like to get back to buying them again. o7

      been a massive fan of the cub look. its that nice middle ground between a more hard core looking bike and a more lax scooter.

    But what we *really* want to know is: is it possible to retrofit the cast wheels and disc brake to my '74 70cc Cub? Because while the extra displacement may be nice, the real upgrade to the classic is never having to tighten spokes and braking that doesn't require planning ahead...
