- Today we're taking a look at (3) New Electric Motorcycles that were just released by Honda! The new 2023 Honda Dax E, Cub E and Zoomer E are a few of the first new models to join Honda's electric motorcycle model lineup as they work to add more than 10 new electric scooter and motorcycle models to their model lineup by 2025! We'll dive into the electric Honda Dax, electric Honda Cub and electric Honda Zoomer and talk about the range, top speed and more for these new electric motorcycles and scooters that are technically classified as EB models (Electric Bicycle).

I'd consider $900 the upper end of the range for an ebike with only a 400w motor. For a few hundred more you can get an ebike with a 750w motor and similar sized battery. I highly doubt these will sell for only $900 in the US. My guess is they will sell for closer to $1500 which will make them less attractive. Also there is usability on trails. Currently Ebikes are allowed on trails up to a 750w motor. These may technically qualify, but I could see getting hassled because they look more like a road scooter.
not at all. i can buy a 750w ebike with a 720wh battery for $1000, it folds. for 1300 i can get a 1kw battery. doesn't require a plate and can ride where ever a bicycle is legal.
$1500 max with a removable battery and max speed of 30MPH. All 3 models would look good in 🇺🇸
I’d pay 1500 after tax for a surron type of bike from Honda
@@Dubl3R who wouldn't pay 1/3rd of the price of a Surron especially with a name like Honda behind it. Back in the real world I just ordered a CYC X1 Steath Gen3 1500w mid-drive kit for $1075 shipped, bike and battery not included.
As a Chinese, I can tell you the Zoomer e is the best selling one now compared to two other Honda electric bike because of its looking and range, so popular that Honda in China offer a lots of the extend accessories just for the Zoomer e to support its market. Also, Zoomer e have bigger screen to show all the information like Bluetooth, phone call, battery percentage etc. that two other one doesn't have, and it is the one that most like the original motorcycle when you look at all the pictures to compare. Last thing to notice, in China, a lots of big cities banned the motorcycle 15 yrs ago, which means you can't ride any motorcycle in the urban area, so the motorcycle/scooter-shaped electric bike like this became popular in China as the motorcycle substitute. And I'm planning to buying one too when I have vacation back to China.
Ahh, you're the man! Thank you for chiming in with some real world feedback on these bikes. I also learned something new there as I didn't know about big cities banning motorcycles so it definitely makes sense as to why these would be so popular and why the Zoomer is the more popular version out of them.

It is sad to think all that amazing engineering is about to be replaced by a battery. Honda is going to have to come up with something really special in this crowded segment.
You hit the nail on the head there, that's why soooo many of us fell in love with Hondas. I was blown away as a kid by how indestructible they were, no matter how hard my friends and I were on them and then when I got old enough to buy my own - my first thought was, Honda!
Your point on all of the engineering behind these different engine configurations over the years is one of the things I touched on in this video ( ua-cam.com/video/aiwugX19FLo/v-deo.html ) as well. Once we start replacing engines with an electric motor, we're removing the soul and overall experience that many of us love - so what's going to set them apart? You won't have different styles of single, twin, triple, four cylinder engines etc that "talk" to us all in different ways and drive us to buy a certain bike just because of how the engine resonates with us on a personal level. If everything turns electric, it's all going to be down to styling and yes styling is a big thing for us as well but it's not the most important part for the vast majority of us as we're not enjoying the styling while we ride - we're enjoying the engine. But yeah, before I ramble on even more lol, it's going to be interesting to see what the future holds for this segment as it appears that Honda is lagging behind. But... that doesn't mean they don't have something huge on the horizon that they've kept under wraps and are waiting to iron out all of the kinks before their big push starts in a little over a year.

@@HondaProKevin One thing that can set Honda apart is the fact that they own Showa. So at least their bikes should have good suspension!
@@LordTimelord as the owner of 28 different Hondas and 76 total vintage bikes.. Showa shocks are not great. They do the job marginally at best
Well, Electric Vehicles still use a motor. It's not a combustion motor, but Honda does have an opportunity to make something incredibly reliable, fast, and innovative as they are known for with their combustion motors. We've already created brushless electric motors, and there is room to mature and improve the efficiency and power of the electric motor. Honda was founded on innovation... I look forward to the way they apply brains to this fresh category ripe for more innovation!
Engines and electric motors all have their place. These are perfect for dense cities like the ones they are marketing these to.
Bikes with such low top speeds likely would not sell well here in the US. Electric power assist bicycles have a little higher top speed and some will operate on throttle alone for certain distances. They’re also significantly lighter than these in the video. Honda should leverage their engineering expertise and get into the electric power assist bicycle business. I think they could be a leader in that market. I want one of those too 😊
15mph E-bikes sell alright in the US. If they come out at anything near that price point, they'd be competitive against something like the Xtreme scooters Cabo, but made by a more reputable brand. But the main reason it only goes 15 mph is because the *computer* limits it to such. Even my Anemic TSDZ2 mid-drive conversion pushes twice that (until I fried the motor core, lol).
There's always the possibility that the limiter can be unlocked like other E-bikes, if it can, they suddenly become *very* lucrative.
bet they will come out with a US version, like US E bycicles have a diff topspeed from EU. Just googled there will be a 50km/h (32mph) version also
@@andyvdw5839 They do. 28mph, considering they'll have a 32mph version, I bet it'll be a reasonably simple matter to disable the limiter entirely. Nobody's likely to pull you over anyway.
With only 400 watt motors I don't think those bicycle pedals are there just for regulations. I'm curious how these things can even get up a shallow hill with how much heavier they are than regular ebikes.
@@4saken404 you can likely overdrive them a fair bit. Hub motors are pretty robust like that. often time it's a 750 watt part with a 400 watt label for legal reasons.
I see a bunch of bikes with a similar concept here in New York. Moped/scooter styled ebikes with pedals as a holdover just for legality, and they’re used all the time for commuting or DoorDash. I’m pretty excited about seeing Honda step in, since one of the biggest concerns about these New York Emopeds is battery safety, since they usually don’t have the best integrated safety systems since they have to be cheap for their users to make ends meet. I’d love to see some come around sometime, they’ll be a hit for the more professional types that just want to commute on a more stylish bike.
Honestly I'd like to see stuff old school style. Like the old 70's era Honda Express or PC50. Always liked the looks of them. Loved the little Express I had a few decades ago. Pre internet as it is now so finding replacement parts was a hassle and a half.
I’d love to see a Trail looking version of the CubE, I’m not super against the Ruckus looking one but some of the roads I travel are a little less paved than your typical city street. It’s the reason I’m really leaning towards a Volcon Grunt if I go Electric, but I’d love to see more offerings in that sort of sub-segment.
Hybrid bike would be a great adventure tourer. The ev part would provide regen braking and torque for hills while also powering campsite lighting charging phone, camera, drone while gas part would extend range.
as someone who gotten into electric driven vehicles, there's a big community of Electric unicycles, One wheels, Eboards, Ebikes, etc...etc... TBH $900 for a bike that can do 50miles that's pretty dam good, and also street legal.
the top electric unicycles is the v13,Sherman S. begode master pro, ranges from 50-80miles at best at the cost of 4k-6k
The best Onewheel Model "GT" ranges from 20-32 miles. at 2k+
Eboards most expense part is the battery configuration + motor (DIY + buying the parts you want than slapping it together will save you more money) Prebuilds are great but choose one that can be upgraded later down the road. I personally built a 16s10p with 21700 battery configuration, only two wheel Helical drive, the range is anywhere from 60-80 miles, at the cost of 3k.
so yeah theses Honda Ebikes are going to be worth it overall, but if they can get the range up like 150, than yeah it would be a game changer.
I remember owning a Honda branded bicycle back in the day so not surprised they are getting into this market in Asia as they make perfect sense in crowded cities there. I think in the US they will have to be electric motorcycles with somewhere in the 50 mile range and at least 45-55 mph to be more mainstream which as we know is going to be a hard sell for electric motorcycles but if a company could do it right it could be a trusted company like Honda. I think the future is probably electric as much as i don’t like it but at least they are starting to work on them now and hopefully get all the bugs worked out for the future.
Yeah buddy, I'm surprised it's taken them this long to dive into the electric bicycle market with it becoming as hot as it has been over the last few years. It's going to be super interesting to see how they plan to tackle not only the EB market but also the electric motorcycle side of things as there are a LOT of people in this industry that won't even give them a second glance so they're going to have to do a lot to win them over. They keep saying a lot of these models are designed with gen z in mind but... from my experience, that generation isn't buying motorcycles like the rest and it's not because they have ICE engines so an electric model isn't going to make them say - Oh, I need to go buy a motorcycle now because it's electric. All I know is, I wouldn't want to be the one pulling the strings right now on what to do next lol as it's a fine line to walk with appeasing the governments around the world with cracking down on emissions and how do you tackle the push towards electric when the infrastructure isn't there etc. Definitely a tight rope I wouldn't want to walk lol!

@@HondaProKevin Honda engineers are kept busy designing new things for sure. It’s the accounts job to keep costs under control and it is certainly an interesting market. I guess we will see how it goes and yes i’m glad it’s not decision too. Lol
They have e bikes and e scooters (kick scoots) that crush those specs, 50 mile, 50 mph, so that's nothing for a motorcycle. The metacycle, the live wire, the zero have crazy range and speed. And the live wire is a Harley. This market are slow to change, here in America even though cool vehicles are everywhere else in the world. Everywhere has better bikes, e bikes, e cars, than here.
Honda, bring us the actual Dax first please. Then we'll talk about the E versions in the states. Thanks for the segment Kevin.

Having a standing as well as a seated riding architecture with large diameter tires, a swappable battery, and regen braking would be my preference.
I want the bigger wheels of the Super Cub. It needs to ignore any hill San Francisco can dish out, and without any loss of speed. Range should be 30 miles at top speed. I would like it to be 100lbs or less and fairly upright so that I can see traffic. It's hard to avoid getting "doored" here so good acceleration from stop and while at cruising speed are both important. Top speed should be 40-45. Would much prefer both front and rear hub motors and thus eliminate other drivetrain elements. No pedals or bicycle features should be on it, with the exception that bicycle accessories should fit as accouterment.
I'll also point out that, even if they can't match any of that, if they can make a good stab at theft deterrence and recovery they will outsell anything on the market.
Now, anyone who is reading all that and snickering should know that I get most of these specs right now from a 3rd rate manufacturer called Voro Motors. The cost was about 1600 by the time it got into my house. But it's uncomfortable, has cheap parts, it's heavy, it's cheaply made, and downright unsafe.
I would be looking to use as a pit bike for race weekends. Range is not a huge concern. Light weight is a plus.
Informative, thanks. That being said, I can't think of any other electric motorcycle that doesn't have a big box tucked in there somewhere for the battery. So I'm not sure that that particular criticism is valid.
I wanna see a test on the PCX! I've owned two honda PC 800s and loved them!
Interesting was the Honda lineup including the business EV series, which made me think, Yamaha makes recreational golf carts, why not Honda make make golf carts for non golfing. So many golf carts on some of the city streets. It would be awesome if Honda offered one. I’d have one for the summer house alongside my Honda Rubicon.

lol right! It's hard to beat the current minis that get 100+ MPG and cost practically nothing to maintain and you can ride them without having to deal with an app on your phone every time lol! Not saying I wouldn't want to play with one though, just to see what it's all about and there are some cases to where I'd hop on one of these and ride it where I couldn't take a "normal" motorcycle.

With US Honda dealers, that 900 dollars will turn into 3500 dollars out of the door. It's absolutely asinine, this is why ao few people are buying the 1807 dollar Navi..."dealer fees" and "delivery prep" send those into the almost 4k range. Honda corporate needs to reign in the dealer greed in the US if they want to move units.
The Honda Cub-125 and Honda Zoomer-125 both can carry a rider and pillion passenger. Both have a range of over 150 km between petrol stations. They can orefuel in less than 5 minutes, and then they can go another 150 km.
We need greatly improved suspension and seats to avoid jarring the back and compression of the spine.
There is an argument as to whether hard seats are better than soft seats. what is needed is high quality memory foam that will absorb shocks an return to its original soft support.
The problem with electric bikes is if you are not home to charge the battery and it goes flat, you are up for hundreds of dollars in battery replacement.
The larger wheels of the cub are much safer for ruts and pot holes. We need the Cub's weather/slash guards, luggage capacity and tie down points. Good lights are a serious weakness of most motorcycles, they need to be larger and brighter, especially the head lamp.
We had an electric bike but now own a Honda ADV-160 with CVT auto and a PCX-160, the hassle of remembering to charge and being there and awake to turn off the electric charger is a real pain. We gave away the electric bike.
I think the designers do not regularly and frequently ride the kind of bikes they design and have no idea how most people actually use and ride their Honda bikes.
Very clearly made for city environments so keeping that in mind they seem pretty nice, a lot of electric bicycles are over $1000 and not always from reputable brands so i'd much rather something like this if I was in the market for a city ebike.
Definitely. I feel lots of the ebikes coming out are money grabs. $3000-$4000 for a good pro made bike. I've built a few that were under $1000 and the only difference was no name brand sticker and the wiring wasn't as well hidden. I've seen good professional ebikes for under $1000 too, so I know it's doable
honestly Im so stoked for these to hit the European market. Honda bikes are my shit and as a city commuter electric fits my needs to a tee.
I like the Zoomer E's design language. The shape is goofy, but the overall design is nice I think. If you transfer that to a traditional motorcycle it would be sick.
Here is my wish list for the motorcycle industry: top speed 75mph; range at least 50 miles; decent cargo capacity; easily removed batteries to charge off-bike.
YES please 65 mph would be enough for me, but just 50 miles 65 mph for a cheap price. Would sell like crazy lmo

Honda and their contemporary gave us great, affordable street and dirt bikes back in the day and changed the game for the better, Elsinores and their ilk made motocross possible for teens without the muscles and big bucks for the European mounts. And Honda showed their love of our market with their '60s scooter and campaign about meeting the nicest people on a Honda. So all props to Honda and thanks to them, too, for the 50cc street-legal Dax for American military-dependent teens in West Germany in the '70s and I want to relive my wild, er, mild times with a new one. And I see the value in these Honda scooters but why has Honda not rolled out true e-bikes, like the real thing, Honda style? They copied and improved motorcycles, yet nothing of the sort with e-bikes and they could be a leader of the pack. And thanks, Kevin, for showing us these, and I'm okay with minimalist styling but yeah, that e-Dax is too bulky down below, not ready to ride a suitcase at any speed. 😀

I've wondered the same thing and it looks like they're fixing to start dabbling in the whole e bike market with these. Now whether or not they really plan to expand on it when it comes to a worldwide scale is another thing but I think they could dominate the e bike market or at least become a big player, like with everything else they dabble in. Bringing something to the table that isn't just your run-of-the-mill e bike with some Honda styling mixed in from some of their popular motorcycles would without a doubt sell! If you line a Honda e bike up next to the other smaller manufacturers that are relatively unknowns in the grand scheme of things, what is your average person going to buy? Even if they're not into Honda motorcycles, they're going to buy a Honda e bike over the others because they trust the Honda brand. It's a massive market that is only continuing to grow and if they aren't working behind the scenes to expand their e bike offerings aside from electric motorcycles that we can clearly see they're working on, they're crazy!
lol I didn't think of that but you're spot on with the suitcase comment! I love the design of that Dax E but yeah, that big box down there just ruins it. Beggars can't be choosers though when it comes to this price point though I guess. If that's the kind of effort that goes into the more expensive models that are on the way, it's going to be even more of an uphill battle...
I agree. I think they could be a leader in e-bikes with top quality bikes that are reliable and reasonably priced, just like their motorcycles, cars, and other motorized things.
@@serious_in_seattle6917 I mean, it is actually mind-blowing to think that Honda has not participated in the e-bike personal two-wheeled transport movement. And while I admire the expensive and exotic and wide variety of e-bikes from many different companies, I don't have one, instead I have a lowly e-bike conversion kit from Green Zone Bikes and it is pretty much perfect for me, just a 250-watt front-hub motor and a thumb throttle and, importantly, a high-quality battery made by Samsung. And I mounted it to a regular old 26" mountain bike and it has totally changed my 14-mile commute each way for the better and funner. I am stingy on the juice on climbs because that's when it drains like a waterfall, so I am motivated to romp up ramps and rises out of the saddle, then use that glorious power to make boring flats and false flats easier and speedier, especially in head winds. And it is safer, too, having that little motor and power, like there is a stretch of two-lane road where motorists really wind it out and the faster I am off that, the better. Same with some blind curves and big intersections, just hit the gas and you are through them faster. So I say that to say that contrary to myth that e-bikes are just mopeds or whatever, they can truly interface and enhance a rider's abilities and why Honda is not rolling out true e-bikes does baffle me as a half-century-long fan. And they can't tell us that pedals on a fat e-scooter counts, it doesn't, not the Honda we know and love. 😀
I like the concept of standard removable batteries that can be swapped and the Japanese motorcycle manufacturers formed a consortium that led to motorcycle battery standards, but that's not how I'd use an urban scooter. I'd park it and charge it at home. I'd like a dedicated charging stand for the garage. Roll it on and it automatically charges, perhaps with a timer that took advantage of off peak rates at night. 15 MPH is too slow for the US.
My rad mini does 22mph and can go 50 miles. The catch is, I have to help it by peddling. And I have to generally keep my speed around 15 mph. Don’t have to peddle hard. Just barely move my feet round with little effort. I weigh 265 pounds. So not bad. Cost was $1350. Battery is 1550 wh.
I actually think the zoomer is the coolest. I would love to replace my ruckus with an electric version

I personally like the Super Cub 125 for my needs, but e-bikes seem hugely popular around my town and I think Honda could have a good seller in the US.
One note is that none of these models appear to have even the slightest nod to cargo, not even a passenger seat or rear fender to which to bungee some down. Is this some sort of compliance issue with e-bikes in the intended markets?
The emover road runner pro is a tiny bike that runs at 55mph 2 electric motors. It blows these models out of the water design and performance wise imo. Unfortunately it costs 2k+. With ebikes moving towards more scooter style with range and power I'm looking forward to these to hopefully make them all priced competitively. Personally I'd be happy with something that does 80-100 mile range at 30-40mph under $1k

As you said, it's over 2k, and probably doesn't have much more range than these, and is way heavier too (I presume) the only thing these little bikes are missing are some 20kmph extra speed amd they're set to win

I would really like to see an E-bike that goes to 100ish miles... Of course I'm also looking at the Emove roadrunner pro which pegs out at 36ish miles with a dual motor design and plenty of room for mods. If it'll go 50-60 mph, can do basic offroading, and can go 50-100 miles I would easily pay 5-6 thousand for it, more if it had extra features of course.

These are basically the only electric motorcycle I would get. A little electric moped would be great for quick trips to close stores if you need something quick. Hopefully they don't come to the states as electric bicycles but as actual electric motorcycles

Don't worry there, we'll see Honda's electric motorcycle segment pushed here in the states before the electric bicycles as that's an outlier that I'm not 100% sure will ever be pushed by American Honda - or at least in the relatively, near future that is. I do think electric bicycles from Honda would sell like hot cakes though as there aren't any major manufacturers pushing them and IF the average Billy Bob is out to purchase an electric bicycle and sees brand names he's never heard of and there's a Honda - he's going to buy the Honda because of what Honda means whether it be cars, motorcycles, ATVs, generators, lawn mowers etc. Of course, pending it's not 10x the money etc.
It's going to be interesting to see how it all pans out though!

Like most electric vehicles, I'm guessing that the range is over estimated! Their testing is done under ideal conditions. Ebikes are the same way, in real world driving, they tend to under perform significantly. No quick charging is big negative too! A person needs to better make sure that they are calculating how much power they are going to need to get all the way back home or else carry a charging cable with themselves. Hopefully you could plug it in somewhere secure, when you get where you want to go so some punk doesn't come along and steal your cable thinking they can sell it for a couple bucks and buy some dope.
Oh yeah, 99% of the time those tests are done under ideal conditions that 99% of us won't ever be able to match lol! I wasn't able to source there actual charge time in the owner's manual or the press material etc so that leaves you to think any sort of quick charging is out the window but I'm assuming that is one of the things they want to negate by bringing those Honda Mobile Power Pack battery centers to the table. So that way with enough of them in your town, charging won't be an issue but instead, find the closest battery pack center via the app and swing by to throw a new battery in and you're good to go. As like you said, finding somewhere secure to plug in and not have to worry about others messing with it if you were to walk off, is a big problem. Unlike with electric cars where you could walk off and do something else, with these tiny bikes all plugged up to charge in one central location would be a nice place for thieves to swing by with a van / truck and just start chucking these little 100lb bikes in the back lol!
It's definitely going to be interesting to see how they plan to tackle some of the hurdles ahead...

I agree with everything you just said. However any need to carry a cable and or charger along with you to opportunity charge means your battery is not large enough for your purposes.
Your battery should be large enough that it exceeds the longest ride you will ever take and you will never need to opportunity charge as a result.
Let's say you put a lot of miles pretty often, but the most miles you ever put on in one day was 80, well if you get a battery large enough to go 100 miles you'll not only never run out of battery in a single day.. you'll never run that battery under the 20% Mark either. Both are wins.
For the setup I run a 20 amp hour battery gives me at least 75 miles of range I recently upgraded to a 28.8 amp hour battery so that I would have even more range. I want to be able to run it as hard as I want for as long as I want and never have to help it. And I was almost at that point with the 20 amp hour battery so I think that I just achieved my goal.
Again, if your opportunity charging you simply do not have a battery that's large enough for your needs.
With that price, if it's available in the US, I'll buy it in a heart bit. Like the hybrid though
Would love to get a Cub E. Sadly we will probably never get it in the USA. I have been dying for a Gyro Canopy, and Japan has been hogging that product for decades. They have an electric model in Japan. It would be so great to get a scooter with a roof for the rain. BMW offers one, but it costs close to $20k....
I would prefer the Cub E though the range and speed are not going to work for me. What would I prefer based on my situation in a rural area near a larger city, 50kph top speed and a range of 150 kms. The Cub manages to fill that need so why don't they aim the Cub E at that segment?

Super cub is very funny vehicle. Range of current E-scooters is not enough. I rode 200-300 km every day. So much fun even at slow speed.

I haven't really dove into electric bicycles to see what kind of range and speeds they're capable of these days but I need to as it seems like that market has really been heating up over the last few years with a lot more affordable options being brought to the table. And then of course you've got some of those top-of-the-line models where you can go ham and spend waaaaay too much money lol but that's the case with anything.

I just watched a vid on a Fucare electric bicycle, full suspension, fat tires, adjustable seat height, 7 speed derailleur, 20 amp hour battery, claimed 32 mph, $1299. It looks bicycle-ish, would blend in well enough where only bicycles can be ridden, bike path, bike lanes. There's a huge advantage to that. Duking it out in the traffic lanes at 15 mph would be a harrowing experience. I go faster on a pedal bike. Bicycles don't need no stinkin' license to ride, no license plate, and no insurance, yet.

Personally, I think these look cool, and I am an american salivating for an electric motorcycle and scooter. At 35, I've never ridden an ICE motorcycle, but I think I could enjoy a low-maintenance, low cost EV scooter, so I'm waiting for a practical one as my first EV and my first "motorcycle."
An electric equivalent to the performance of the Navi would make a good first motorcycle or scooter for me. As a commuter, the "step through" footwell design of a scooter would provide me more room for groceries or simply wind protection. But specs-wise, the top speed (and acceleration?) of the Navi would be great, and the simple twist-and-go throttle with no clutch to operate is a welcome design to me. I don't need a highway machine... I just need something that will keep pace with cars on 35mph roads and 15 degree hills. I don't need long range... the 40 mile range quoted here is enough for several trips and even some joy riding without stretching to the full capacity of the battery; even going from my suburbs to downtown is only 11 miles (like 20-30 round trip), and battery rental/swap stations would make range anxiety even less of a problem than with full-size cars. Usually, I'm just going to the grocery store, or my friend's house 3.5 miles away.
For me, a gas scooter would be cheap, but require maintenance knowledge as part of an extra hobby. I'm sure the learning curve isn't high, but quite simply I have enough hobbies already and I just want to get down to business. An EV Scooter would let me park in the garage and need no special cleaning or fuel treatment if I don't ride in the winter. These Honda's fulfill those requiremets I believe (and the battery system shows promise, if they can provide enough voltage to reach higher speeds with higher watt motors), but at 15 MPH I might as well just ride an electric scooter... 15mph is not fast or powerful enough to go on suburban back roads, illegal to ride on sidewalks, probably illegal to ride on bike lanes too, so I literally can't think of anywhere I COULD use these in the USA.
Looks and style wise, I would be more than happy to buy any one of these, IF they could keep up with traffic in my hilly suburban area (Pittsburgh, PA). If pressed, I would say the Cub has my favorite style, plus I want the knee-wind shields. I would buy a model that meet my needs THIS YEAR if it was available... I've already been considering what it would take to get a Piaggio One Active or Niu MQi GT to my house, though I think Honda will make a scooter with better long-term battery support.
Interesting technology and even insight into Chinese culture through their products. For the US market, Honda needs to focus on urban mobility for battery powered vehicles - scooters (50 to 150 cc class performance) and motorcycles (150 to 650 cc class). Fairly simple and functional with Honda clever features. No subscription services to unlock features like the weasel policy from Zero. An electric urban assault dual sport would be great.

My first motorcycle was a Honda Super Cub. I presently have a Honda GoldWing. So, I've been through the whole range. This past December I bought two Lectric XP 3.0 ebikes for my wife and myself. So, there is a market for an ebike from Honda. It should be class 3, 28mph. Yeah, I'd buy the Cub with pedals if it met that requirement. Range would need to be a solid 40 miles, throttle only.
I also started on what I think was at the time called a passport! 80cc? Would do 53 top end, laying down on it! Loved it! 3 speed with no clutch! Miss that thing! 😀👍
I need one that can go at least 50 mph and can handle a 20 mile round trip 5 days a week.

Honda needs to fix the weight of the battery and a longer range.
It's going to be interesting to see over the next few years as batter technology increases, just how light they can make them while still being able to extend their range etc. However, if you have a million of those Honda Mobile Power Pack stations scattered around cities, range isn't that big of a deal as you can just swing by and throw in a juiced up battery and you're good to go. Makes you wonder what our cities are going to look like in just a few decades, compared to what the last few have been like. I can't say I'm 100% excited to see what they'll look like lol but it's going to be interesting to see how it all pans out...
I like the zoomer best, not sure why maybe it just looks least like a scooter..
my issue is most these type bikes are made for ppl of a different/slight stature, I think we needs to see them with big and tall riders..
my first motorbike was a 750 it felt like I was riding a clown bike, after one road trip I upgraded to a bandit 1200.. I think that experience is why I’m so on the fence with most electric we have seen most gas engines bike being compressed over the years with electric motors being smaller I’m worried this will decrease the overall build size even further..
You must be a big man! It made me think of a time I sold a Yamaha 650. The guy that bought it was huge! 6'3" 250 lbs. I asked him if it was too small for him. He laughed and said he was gonna use it for going to work! He bought it. And liked it!

Yes i would totally buy an electric Honda.. at the right price tho. Even if they sold them here for around the US prices, i would buy one. If they come in with a Ruckus E for 5k, i would pass. I just hope that Honda continues to offer good ol ICE powder. My old ruckus would give my around 80MPG, so if an electric ruckus gave at least 50 mile range for around 3k msrp, i would want one.
Yessir, pricing is going to be key here in the US on whether or not these electric bikes thrive or flop as I believe we've got the most difficult consumer base to flip over to the idea of buying electric toys. I'm super curious to see how they handle the whole Honda Mobile Power Pack station rollout here in the states too as that'll be a huge factor in how trusting people are with their range and charge times etc, if they can just pop in one of many different areas around the city and throw a new battery in so you're good to go.
Pricing and convenience has really got to be there, otherwise - the trusty ole Ruckus etc will still reign supreme!
And yeah, fingers crossed they never stop making ICE toys. I don't see that happening any time soon, or at least in our lifetime but no matter what, the sad part to me is that with all of this R&D $$ being spent on electric - that means less in development for new and exciting engines... :(

A 50-mile range for a city only bike would be just fine, but a 15-mph top speed makes it worthless to me. We have limited bike paths where I live, and you would have to have a death wish to ride something like that in traffic. I live about three miles outside of town but need something which does at least 40-mph to get me there on the arterial roads.
Honda crf-e2 is supposed to be $2950. I would be surprised if these bikes were far off from that.
American e-bikes are allowed to go a lot faster, I’d be curious to see Honda put out a solid Ebike they expect you to pedal (as opposed to the compliance stuff)
Why did they put differently screens on all of them? Seems rather ineffectual to me. They should have all had the zoomed screen.
But at 900, yeah, I’d definitely pick one up. But only because I’d imagine it would be a whole lot cheaper to mod one of those things than to convert the gas versions to electric. I am actually saving up right now to convert my ruckus to electric, and the battery alone is already 700 dollars
The swap-able battery station is interesting. I'd like to see a recumbent 3 wheeled enclosed electric bike. The enclosure could protect the rider from the elements and provide better aerodynamics. Pedal backup is great! Top speed needs to be closer to 30mph and rage 60 miles. Price for the bikes shown? $900 would be good. That is what a good electric bike costs and you get Honda reliability.

Are you an engineer? What is an ignition system in an electrical vehicle? Do you mean the power regulation system? You can make it as reliable as you want. All you really need is a variable resistor and we can build one to last for centuries. An ICE engine has thousands of moving part which need lubrication and maintenance. An electrical motor has at least an order or magnitude less moving parts.
In 50 years or 100 years they will probably look at ICE engines the way we look at horse and buggies. ICE engines still work, but why? The main problem now is cost and time. Reliability is most likely an advantage of electric cars.
@@gabrielteo3636 no I'm a mechanic, the electric motor turning twice as fast as the internal combustion engine is going to wear out twice as fast. It has the same bearings and friction, if not more than an oil and water cooled engine. The earliest cars built were electric, but they had to switch to gas because electric vehicles were not as practical. Maybe with LiFePO4 that will change.
@@gsp49 The earliest electric cars were not practical because they cost too much for the range and recharge time. How much the electric motor turns (RPM) is not the reliability limiting factor. You can easily put in a permanent 2/1 or 3/1 gear ratio to lower the rpm of the electric motor. LiFePo4 is a great cheap battery chemistry, but it has nothing to do with the reliability of the motor or power regulation. Right now, the only real hurdle is cost of batteries, recharging time and thermal regulation of batteries. Imagine a VW beetle with a 100 hspr electric motor and a 200 mile range, 10 minute recharge time, priced at $12K (today) and will run for 2M miles before the battery degrades to 80% and cost you $.10 per mile including all maintenance and fuel costs. Pay more and have the car take you cross country while you sleep.
I'm an engineer and don't know of a single engineer or mechanic that says reliability is really an advantage of an ICE engine. The current advantage of the ICE engine is power to weight and initial cost and refuel time, but that is changing.
If it's ugly, generally they've put the effort into the performance or practicality.

Personally... I don't live in an area that I could use this currently. But... I'd still be excited about around 30 real world miles per charge and say 30-40mph top speed.
Would have to go at minimum 50 miles, but should go 60miles range, and go at least 30mph, but more to 45 mph top speed for city roads that have higher speed limits, and should be less than $3k, for people to actually want to purchase.
On the topic of keys. I don't particularly know why it couldn't have both. I'd just be worried about what happens when those apps go out of service. That just kind of makes your bike defunct unless you can replace those parts. Note: I am Gen z.
My commute to work is 52 miles round trip and most of that is on I5 with a speed limit of 60 MPH. I need to make that trip for me to buy in. I'm told that in the near future (I work for the federal government) they will install EV chargers here. If/when that happens, I'm willing to come down on my requirements. I'll always feel more comfortable, though making a round trip with no worries about a recharge issue.
I've a similar use case - 50 mile round trip with about 20 miles of that at 70mph. Nothing on the market makes me think I'll be trading my 700cc in for anything electric soon. I know there are some expensive machines that'll do it - but my bike cost £4K and I won't replace it for anything that costs much more. Most interesting to me is the CFMoto 300GTe, but its yet to hit the market or prove if it'll do what I need. I strongly suspect I'll be buying another ICE machine in 3 or 4 years rather than going electric.

A viable urban commuter vehicle in the United States must achieve, in my opinion, at least 35-40mph. That way, while it can't get on the highway, it can keep up with urban traffic in all parts of a city. Unfortunately in most states that means registration, insurance, and a motorcycle/scooter license endorsement. I think a 28mph e-bike is fast enough to endanger riders but too slow to keep up with traffic on major roads, which also adds to danger. This is just my opinion based on my city, though; as bicycle infrastructure improves, class 3 e-bikes with 28mph speeds may supplant many cars.
Battery power has its use and application, just not here with me, ever. These little machines might be great for college campus or to put in your RV but that's about all I can see. I'd never ride one to work.
