the o ring was the only reason I was here and you didn't show it 😅
I feel that lol
I fitted the standard bars from a 2010 Dyna Streetbob - 10 inch rise mini apes - to my '06 Sportster xl1200r and found the clutch cable was too short by about 6 inches as I remember, I did it ten years ago.... went to the premier Harley dealer in England ( F H Warr & Son in London) and took the old cable with me for reference.
Now the important thing is the relationship between inner cable and outer cable lengths and guess what ? - the difference in length between the inner and outer is exactly the same on the Sportster as it is on the five speed Twin Cams.... so it was just a matter of getting one about six inches longer than the Sporty's standard cable. It was one from an FL as I recall.... anyway, to buy an aftermarket cable was nearly as much as an 'extended' cable from Harley, BUT the standard FL cable was now old stock and I got it for about £20 ($25 ? ) and at the time the extended ones were about £80 + sales tax.....
Do you have to hold that plate sandwiches together ? Or will the bbs fall out if it opens?
What was the "adjust to spec" part?
Can't wait to see the finished product. I'm currently putting on a Lucky 13, 15 inch bars on my Sporty.
Lucky Daves 14', with a 2 inch tank lift should look proportionate.
The 14s look good but I wouldn’t want to go any taller. New vid dropping soon!
Nice job! Thanks for sharing!
For the ball and ramp setup on that clutch, how mindful do you have to be for that? Like do I have to keep that sandwiched tight together or does it usually just slip in and out as an assembly?
I wondered the same thing. I was very careful to keep the ball and ramp squeezed together as I was pulling it out of the primary and did not have any issues.
Nice job, really been enjoying you channel and learning a lot! I just put the Lucky Daves 12 in bars on my sportster.
William Matthews Thanks for the support. If I bought the bars new I might have gone with the 12s too. The 14s feel great though. How are you liking the bars?
@@twinsmotogarage1866 I just bought 14s for my 16 iron 883 I’m roughly around 6 ft a wanted them shoulder height I stupidly got to excited and orderd the entire kit without measurement would they be ok for me
@@pudsey9321 On the Sportster the 14s put my hands at about shoulder height or slightly higher. I’ve found bars that put the hands below shoulder height to be most comfortable. I’ve got the same bars but the 10 inch version on my Dyna and they feel perfect.
@@twinsmotogarage1866 you mind me asking your height ?
@@pudsey9321 6’2
Hi, intresting video, I like the rear suspension... wich brand and model are they? thank-you
Stock air shocks off of a bagger. I found them on ebay. There are two different lengths depending on the model it came off of/part number. One is about the same length as a stock sportster shock and the other is an inch longer. The shorter one seems to be more desirable and a little more expensive. I went with the taller one. There is lot more info on this on the forums.
I love the bars what a difference, I’m waiting on speedometer cable harness now to slide my speedometer to the top of the bars.
William Matthews Nice! I may do the same eventually. Where did you source the cable?
I sent a stock Harley cable to Guerrilla cables in Riverside Ca
I just installed new burly brand clutch cable broke off at the threads. Sucks
When installing the lower clutch bolt to the transmission casing, did you encounter any problems with torquing it? I got the same kit and it just spins freely on my XL1200X. I might try to redo the lower portion to see if I may have done it wrong.
jrodpiano what is spinning freely? It was a pain to get the treads started. In order to not twist and damage the cable sheath I held the top end of the clutch cable extended out with my left hand. With my right hand I spun the bottom end into the primary making sure the entire lower part of the clutch cable spun at the clutch adjustment screw in the middle of the clutch cable as I turned it the lower end into the primary.
Twins Moto Garage the bottom of the clutch cable was spinning freely into the primary. I got the threads started, and once it fully got in, it can’t be torqued and just spins freely. The o-ring seems to be seated, but it is not torqued at the primary at all. Thanks for the quick reply too
@@jrodpiano sounds like you have stripped threads. Or the threads on the end of the cable broke off. It's hollow so the cable can run through it and into the primary. So that piece is delicate.
Hey bro I'm having the same issue with the clutch from burly did you find any solution?
hello could you tell me the size of the handlebars of the first video size grip to grip thank you
Melissa Guillaumin Sure, I’ll measure and respond the next time I have the bars in front of me.
Hey guys, right at 2:12 he says adjusting to spec. Anyone know what the spec is?
Tighten until you can feel it firm up, then back it off 1/4 to 1/2 turn
Bro can you help me? So I got the same type of cable but every clutch I shop for takes a barrel type end
Go to the site of an online retailer and enter your year and model and it should show you options specifically for your bike.
Took my cable out and now it won’t thread back in at all, I can literally slide it in and out without threading it, not sure what change 🤔
Look at the treads on the cable and the threads on the primary cover. See which ones are messed up.
What’s the blue thing you added at 3:06
Just a little grease
Right at 136 on tour video is when mine broke off
How do you find what spec to adjust

Shouldn't the clutch cable pass through the forks??
All the sportsters I've seen route outside of the forks. Behind the left fork and down the frame.
@@twinsmotogarage1866It should tuck behind the headlight bucket, between the triple clamps.
i love Men !! Victoria my HD !!!🙂🙂🙂🙂
I am having an absolute nightmare of a time trying to thread the new clutch cable into the transmission cover, I also can't even thread the old clutch cable back into the transmission cover. Please help!!!
Getting the threads started was a real pain for me. I probably have two 10 minute clips of my trying to get em started. I had to hold upper portion of the cable out extended with my left hand and spin the entire lower portion in with my right hand trying not to kink or strip anything in the process.
Did you get it fixed? I'm having the exact same problem as you where the tip of the new one doesn't fit into the hole of the transmission body.
@@Legions_666 it’ll fit after you spend 20 min or so trying. It’s real annoying, I just did mine today.
@@FCKSHTSZN but the tip on mine is too big to go in the hole of the transmission. I think i might just have the wrong cable.
