    Had a 81 Shovelhead i rode for over 20 years. one time i had to keep readjusting my clutch. took kicker side off and thrust bearing shot, which lead to no push rod spinning; and it literally ground about a 1/8 inch off the end of the push rod. so new bearing and rod fixed it up toot sweet.

    Hate to break it to ya. I worked for stone cold cycles. Mainly on V twins and this is a rat f of how to do this. As rhe vid is a cpl years old I'm guessing you learned this has far easier ways to be done and more correctly. The frame openings under triple trees are you plug ins for harness in dynas and most Harley's. No need and not recommended to cut harness away from under seat as that's main harness tie in. Harleys are made to be upgraded and have plug connectors to prevent this kind of mess. As a tech, I would never make a 2 hour job into a 10 hour job by cutting all this. Always cover or pad your tank when working on bars too. BTW the main wire harness is also zip tied under the tank along that frame piece called the backbone. Scary stuff here.

    • @twinsmotogarage1866
      @twinsmotogarage1866 3 місяці тому

      The video pertains to 2005 and older Dynas where the connectors are deep inside the frame's backbone. 2006 and newer Dynas are totally different as those models have the connectors near the neck.

    Thanks for making this video 🫡 If you still have your original signals intact you can use the plugs to do this and you don’t have to buy the ones he used. I used the stock connectors and spliced the whole thing in. Used the oem lightbulb 3 wire plug, cut and spliced RBW w corresponding wires to get power and signal (my light didn’t come with a plug wired up) Used oem signal plugs, cut wires and spliced blue/purple for Left and yellow/purple for Right. I left the black wires bc i couldn’t de-pin them for the life of me but i cut them back far enough to be clear of the splice and they went under the secondary layer of heat shrink. Everything was heat shrunk first at splices and again with a segment of black heat shrink over the top. Works great so far 🤙🏼 definitely bright enough at night.

    I know this is old but I'm just seeing this maybe I can help someone out. Yes! some models need rpm to find neutral. Another major culprit is primary oil level. it should just touch the bottom diaphragm plate when filling. If too full the oil will cause the clutches to stick together and not disengage the clutches pack.

      @twinsmotogarage1866 3 місяці тому

      @@travisduckoff3669At the time of posting there was only one other sportster starter replacement video on UA-cam. The video is meant to give an idea of what the job entails. If you have basic skills, you can take it from there. It’s not meant to replace the service manual. I don’t trust getting torque specs from a single UA-cam video and therefore I usually don’t post them to encourage others to do their own research. If wrench sizes are holding you back I’d recommend you take the bike to a competent mechanic.

    the extension reduces torque needed (effort) thanks to longer lever distance, but the disengagement is less for the same clutch lever distance. If very precisely tuned those clutch extensions disengage easier but over a longer clutch actuation distance. some riders prefer shorter response others the long clutch move. And the probability to be out of tune is more critical.
