Obviously their businessplan is flawed. The moment a business starts making money you need to start pocketing money and building the capital of the business. If you are forced to put all the gross profit back into the business to keep it going, you don't have a business.

I've got to be honest I am very pleased they got the offer. 60% of something huge is always better than 100% of something small. Amazed by their turnover but lack of net profit though - they really need dragons to help them change that.

because for a long time when their costs were low - their prices drove high turnover and had good margins .. but then significantly higher across the board costs wiped out those margins, but if they had then raised their prices in a competitive market - they would have wiped out their turnover and run the risk of entirely collapsing their customer base and thus their business.. thus high turnover - but no profit..
It's so nice to see people accepting offers like this. Even if the equity is much larger that first expected, they made the right choise. Good for them. I really hope they do good :D

If you're using the company account for personal expenses, it's a nightmare. Your boss was categorizing those as business expenses, you just couldn't figure it out. The business paid for that, not your boss, and if he owned the company, he was just helping his tax liability

Maybe I missed it, and I'm not going to watch it again, but I didn't hear them go over their balance sheet. You have no idea what assests the business had. Did the bussiness have a 500k in inventory? Any other assets? We don't know.
That half a million offer wasn't because the competing company though they were valid competition; it was because half a mill was a drop in the ocean to remove a small competitor. Somewhere, a hunch of number crunchers would have calculated what amount Imperial Candles might cost them in sales over the course of five or ten years.
I wonder how much of that was down to covid. Granted they were struggling anyway, but I can't help but ponder if a lot of people started doing this sort of thing on their own, plus others finding they couldn't justify the spending anymore, cancelled Christmas and birthday gatherings etc.

Their turnover tells you they had a lot of money coming in which increased year on year mostly and yet still ended up with their net profit dwindling each year. They need more than a loan. Mlm isn't about the product. But yes, most mlms sell candles. Mlm is a business model that forces its own employees to be it's main customers, while at the same time prioritizing its employees recruiting more people to become employees themselves. This creates a near infinite distribution chain funneling money to the top.

You wouldn't want expensive jewellery in the candles. Its fine in a plastic bag in the bath bombs. I've got candles with gems hidden in them but the candle burns them, you have to clean the soot and wax off them.

Given the cost of advertising on social media, let alone anywhere else, I'd wager that that's where a lot of it was going. Especially since the 40% shareholder was solely focused on marketing. It worked to the tune of 400,000 followers... but also to the tune of a loss in a year of 1+ mil turnover. Ouch.
7Million in sales is not 7Million in earnings. If I buy 10Million of Milk but sell it for 7Million, I lose everything.
