I have been watching your channel for nearly a month and now I'm up to this episode, number 23. In your first episode you mentioned the dad parking the car in 1978 after his son passed away. I cannot believe the amount of repairs that were done on this car in the first 10 years of its life, before it was parked. Someone treated it pretty rough. Wasn't sure what year the dad gave this to his son. Glad you're able to bring it back. I watched your GTO repairs too, I'm excited after watching you and Fitzee to start cutting, grinding and welding on my own projects. Looking to start welding myself as I have had to pay for it in the past. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Tim! He gave it to his son in 78 shortly before he passed away. What was crazy to learn after the fact was that the original owner was a NASCAR driver back in the 60s and 70s! Now it makes more sense how/why it was driven so hard!
We just flew down to Florida to pick up some quarter panels for our 66 were redoing! Youre super lucky to have those amd panels, its so hard to fine 66 panels. These videos are so crucial for me fixing all the rust on this car! You sir are a godsend!
I can hear the old gal saying... "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" Every piece that goes on her, all of your sweat and all of your hard work is making her beautiful once again!
You do great work young man.....l've seen several car guy channels where they're roaming junkyards talking about certain cars that they see and would like to restore but saying how the cars are too rusty, crushed roofs etc. and are beyond repair....but the cars themselves are actually in no worse condition than the ones you restore. Keep up the great work and thank you, l always look forward to your videos!🤝✌
Wow, cutting that quarter panel off, scared the hell out of me. One wrong move and big problems, your fearless with that grinder.I think going back to the original door is a good idea to see how that lines up. I love the build, it`s starting to look real nice all mocked up, nice work.
Amazing work. Subscribed to your channel when you first brought the old girl home. I get tired of channels where they claim "rescue" and just bring a vehicle home to let it rot in their backyard. Unlike those, you're getting the job done. Thanks for letting us watch the progress!
In your future builds use your belt sander to cut in to the spot weld before trying to knock off the old panel it will make life so much easier and save time as well.
It’s amazing with everything part you weld in how this car transforms into a a classic your taking your time where most don’t keep up the great work so what’s up for the next the filler piece the trunk pan the frame rails can’t wait lol again great job
Next episode may be a Q&A. I’ve been getting a ton of questions from different people the past few days. After that, engine tear down, rear deck filler and window channels, then the frame rails! All are HUGE jobs!
Man, that air chisel is such a time-saver, and surgical, especially when operating around the car’s “torso”. Great work “Doc”! Looking forward to more grinding as you get another step closer to the finish line! God Bless 😎
When you pushed down the trunk hinge to grind, reminded me of the time I wedged a hammer to hold the arm down on my Satellite. Well, it cut loose and flipped it over the front of the car. It was funny at the time, but I’m lucky it didn’t hit someone or the windshield. There’s a ton of tension in those trunk rods. I love the progress!
I rebuilt the floors of my plow truck with oven sheet metal. One day I’ll properly restore the old bronco plow truck. The old 1992 isn’t going to be let down
Rusty the charger staring to look like a charger again. One step closer to getting the shell done. Love watching your videos gets me inspired to work on own rust bucket 72 Canadian swinger special that I will be cloning into a 340 special.
I'm on video #30, I think, and was wondering if you ever got a spot weld cutter? The step drill is neat and they don't tear up the sheet metal as bad as a 3/8" drill bit would, but those step drills are expensive compared to a spot weld cutter with replaceable carbide blades. Plus you don't have to drill all the way through the panel with the spot weld cutter.
Barry Gilgen amazing that some company makes all those replacement part's and you can basically make a almost brand new car out of what you started with, which wasn't much, a lot of rust.I watch Junkerup a lot and you guys are very comparable on your work. keep up the good work video's every car guy loves to watch you do the work.
Will there be a separately Video of the rust treatment in the roof and underbody? She's coming together nicely. Much respect from a Charger lover across the pond 👍
You are going pretty good, i thought you would have cut and weld the vin number from the original trunk gutter in to the new gutter before you fitted it in on the driver side.
@@rustbucketrestos6511 you are all over it, awesome. 👍 Any chance you would have a spare good condition driver side rear quarter belt molding trim available for sale, hard getting parts here in Australia. Thanks.
There are definitely other things that need to be accounted for when you make the mini tubs. You have to trim the trunk pan to fit and modify the lower half of the truck support braces. I go into detail on those in the next video!
Hey Great Work. Question. How do you know the order of operation. Which panel / parts go 1st 2nd and so fourth,.. to get the correct fitment when all parts are screwed before final welding.
@@rustbucketrestos6511 Cool,.. Thanks for taking the time to explain. I see Songbird pins his Chargers up for fitment, before final welding also. I wonder if they did the same process in 1968 ? 🙂 I Love what your doing and I hope to doing a project like yours in my future. Keep up the great work.
Does AMD have much as far as Pontiac panels ? I know you was working on that 65. I have a 66 pontiac lemans convertible i want to get full rear quarters if I can.
Did you remove the rear stamp from the trunk gutters? I saw this on Junkerup UA-cam channel. This stamp is important to match the Vin tag and prove authenticity.
@@rustbucketrestos6511 So you were the guy that bought the last left quarter available worldwide. Apparently these are stuck on a container somewhere and should be available again at the beginning of next year.
Use the magnet trick and focus your heat on the quarter panel side of the seam. Brush away the lead when you see it start to move and keep moving. You shouldnt have any issues with the heat.
@@rustbucketrestos6511 oh Thank God, I love your videos but my eyes are bad enough already without the video being blurry. going to wait for the HD upload. Thanks!
Cool. Thanks for the review. I'll start pushing them more. And I love how you're getting down to the last bit if rust on your Charger. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Greetings from Montana. Wife and I are curious, may we be so bold as to ask about how much these body parts have cost so far? I tried to look up on the AMD website, and it looked like bare minimum of around $10,000. How close am I?
Going into it, I figured around $12k for sheet metal alone… no labor included. Now I have saved a lot of money by going with a used front clip and other repairs instead of replacing entire parts. All said and done $10k is just about right.
What a pity you didnt have a decent spot welder so you could reinstall your patch panels as per factory. Prob need 3 phase to run it so not practical where you are. Nice work all the same.
the only issue I see is in another 50 years when someone does this again (probably impossible to source parts by then I know) they won’t be able to find your plug welds with them ground down so nicely. The price of perfection I guess
68 quarters were back ordered until next spring. I got the last set of 69-70 quarters amd had in their inventory. Beggars can’t be choosers! I wasn’t about to wait another 6 months to get started on her again. I blame the freight company for the dings. The boxes arrived pretty hammered. Nothing a hammer & dolly can’t fix.

With time, skill, effort and money, anything is achievable.
It's almost like Chrysler engineered in extra space with the framerail location; to accommodate mini tub extensions for future mods. Nice work!

Yes I’ve still got them for reference. B5 would look sweet!
With The mini tub you installed what size tire can you put? 15? What else is required for mini tubs like trunk lid extensions hinges?
There are definitely other things that need to be accounted for when you make the mini tubs. You have to trim the trunk pan to fit and modify the lower half of the truck support braces. I go into detail on those in the next video!

60-120 grit flap disc. Get them at Home Depot or Lowe’s

Tons more for 66-67 than my 65.
What's the plan on your rear fillet panel & plenum underneath it?
That’ll be next along with the lower rear window channel.
I see the rear frame rails look shot, I haven't watched all the episodes but does he replace these before or after the quarter panel, etc.?
Before!
Great work. You gonna relead those seams or use high quality filler? I hear lead is an art of it’s own.
How you planning to finish the seam on the roof and quarter panel you going to put lead back or you some type of filler
Fiberglass reinforced filler
Freaking kick ass job
Thanks Dave!
Did you remove the rear stamp from the trunk gutters? I saw this on Junkerup UA-cam channel. This stamp is important to match the Vin tag and prove authenticity.
Sure did!
Just curious… why did you go with the 69-70 charger quarters as opposed to the 68 quarters with the circle side marker?
