Remember it is NOT the best camera (images, etc) but it is the most USABLE camera that counts. It's the camera you USE that is the best camera! So many cameras are out there in the full frame level that are simply too big and with the lenses, too expensive. I use the following criteria-if a camera/lens costs $1000 and has a quality of image say "50" a camera/lens costing $2000 should be TWICE as good to make the buying decision make sense with a score of "100". Of course no expensive cameras meet this criteria-much more expensive cameras are only incrementally better in terms of image quality. I travel constantly overseas for fun and the full frame mirrorless cameras, even such a wonderful camera as the A7iii, is simply too large for my comfort level. I use the A6000 and the RX100iii and found them to be wonderful for their small comfortable size, ease of using auto when I want, panorama, built in flash, and reasonable image stabilization with a steady hand. I recently purchased the A6600 and fully expect it to be better than the A6000. Your video is a great example of how a small APSC camera can do big things with a good videographer. If one wants to shoot pro level videos, such as a documentary, drama, or action movie, this camera with a gimbal and upgraded microphones would do the trick, especially if the film was being shown on a large TV, the internet, etc. There is no need for early filmmakers to use anything else. For the vast majority of enthusiasts this or such other choices such as the Fuji XT3 are phenomenal choices, actually way more than what is needed.
Very thoughtful breakdown..I hear so many novices say things like ohhh the "rolling shutter" or no" 4k 60fps", waaah because they heard 20 other people say the same thing...It's a bit petty. Those features would be nice, but using a Camera is about pushing you to be more creative and work with what you have...I was lucky to find a a6600 on Craigslist for 1k new so now I will be selling my older micro 4/3s gear to upgrade to this after many years..I was pleasantly surprised when I sold my lumix 7-14mm lens for the same price I bought it for 5 years ago...Anyhow, the Batis is beautiful but I will work with my Sigma 16mm for now and work my way up...Excellent video thanks!
I love the look of your work. Crispy but still cinematic. A wonderful blend of exposure, color and detail. Thanks so much for sharing the HLG settings and gear. I subbed to your channel last year. Beautiful work.
is this better than the GH5 for video? Also what would be a good camera to purchase with a 1500 budget (with lens) that is a hybrid of GH5 and A7iii for vid and photo thanks!
In terms of the specs, GH5 still ahead of any of Sony Mirrorless cameras. Unless you don’t care too much about the bitrate and 4K 60p. The Sony a6600 has an amazing video eye AF. So it works really well when using a gimbal. Also the lowlight performance will be a lot better comparing with GH5. So it depends what’s more important to you. 4K 60p with high bitrate or great video AF with amazing lowlight? ☺️
@@dsipictures thats my current dilema... I want the best of both worlds and GH5 kills 6600 in terms of cinematic, in my opinion but i want to be about to take still photos also and landscape along with being able to shoot great video.. such a hard choice >

You did a great job on the color grading. A lot of these cameras look great when sitting on a tripod but when the video footage really gets put to the test is when you're doing moving shots. Wish you included some in here.
i just uploaded 2 videos shot with sony a6600.i colorgraded both we premiere pro and there is movement with the camera. Check and let me know if you have any questions
What I don't see is any kind of moving camera besides the intro, slow and short. All nice tripod work but what is the real world experience with the camera moving in comparison to the fuji xs-10 for example ?
I've actually been thinking of swapping from the Sony a7 III to the Sony a6600 with Sigma Primes as I feel like I'll get pretty much the same quality... Hmmm... What to do...
If you want something a bit smaller, easy for travel. Then for sure. Cos APS-C is about one stop slower. Let say, you use f/2.8 lens on a full frame body. Then just get a f/2.0 lens on the APS-C body. Then you will be fine. Those sigma ones are even better cos they are f/1.4. But ofcoz full frame will still give you better lowlight and slightly better DR. But that’s when you are super picky about the quality. I used to use Full Frame only when I travel. But now 99% of the time people can’t tell if that was shot on a full frame or APS-C Camera. Plus full frame lenses are a lot heavier. So for me, I rather enjoy the holiday ☺️😉
Thank you very much, Yea it is hard to pick which one is better hey. It depends what sort of work do you do. For the specs, the XT3 definitely better. 10Bit colour, 4K 60p and high Bitrate. But if you do a lot of handheld run and gun stuff. A6600 might be better. Especially the IBIS. Or if the price doesn’t really matter for you. The XT4 just announced and it has everything that you need in one package. Good specs plus the IBIS ☺️
I am about to buy an A-6400 was planning to buy the sigma trio with it... But this video... Tells me I would rather save up and buy zeiss 50mm and zeiss 85mm
Beautiful shooting and Thank You. I do also carrying A6600 around me now such I could capture funny moment with my little kids, I like this form factor so much. I used Canon 6D mk1 for years, the AF and PQ is great for still shoots like landscape picture while day trekking, or at the beach. After I tried A6600 and found its mobility is so great especially while coupling with the Zeiss 24/1.8, I could take cam out from sling bag to snapshot in one hand and keep hanging around with the children. I just couldn't do that with 6D. Only one part disappoint me is the extra crop when taking 120fps video, I am now struggling whether to get a wider prime lens for slow motion or just use the 24/1.8 for all around purpose.
Steve, as always, your work is phenomenal! Gorgeous video presentation of the capabilities of this camera! It's always nice to watch your work! Great job! =)
Hi! I love your video. Is there any reason you shoot with 50 shutter speed instead of 60? Actually I do shoot with 50 when there is a light to avoid flickering.

Hi Steve! Sorry to bother you here, but I can see you have done impressive amount of testing and have real passion for gear, which is highly appreciated. I wonder what you would recommend to me (I am a Canon user currently having a 5D mkIV) for a backup / b-roll camera. I am considering a mirrorless addition to my system and the options I think of is either the EOS R (which is superb, but lacks 120p) or rather to wait for EOS R mkII and in the meantime buy something cheaper like M6 mkII (with 120p but APSC) or EOS RP (full frame but no 120p). Any suggestion would be much appreciated! Best, Michal
Thank you Michal. If you wanna go Full Frame. I would definitely pick the EOS-R. Just because the EOS-R is a great overall camera. Higher bitrate in 4K, 10Bit colour out. But if you think 120p is more important to you. Ofcoz M6 Mark II would be a better choice. And for the EOS-R Mark II. I’m not sure Canon is really gonna release that camera so soon. Canon always like to protect each other. As the 1DX III just announced about a week ago. I don’t think the R II would be that soon. Especially when everyone says, most of the features from the 1DX III will be on the EOS-R. I mean I could be wrong. But right now EOS-R is still a great camera. No point Canon to release a replacement so soon 😊
Once again, a great show! A fine demonstration of how important composition is. Also, almost everything was shot wide open, except for a few scenes. So much for the advice: "don't shoot wide open all the time"! Given you shoot A LOT of people, how you manage to go unnoticed? I guess you cut out parts of the footage where people are staring into the camera, but some shots were very tight - the Super35 sensor and the long lenses helped I suppose! And what about filming storefronts? Do you ask for permission or owners simply don't care? Thanks, Steve!
Thank you very much. What I normally do is, when I get into their comfort zone. I let them see I’m doing video. But I don’t point the camera on them. Then after few mins. Yea a6600 is not a cheap camera. Consider the price, you can almost buy the Fuji XT3. And the XT3 got way better specs than the a6600. Such as, 4K 60p, 10Bit Colour and 400mbps codec. But Sony is still stuck with 8Bit 4K 100mbps. And yea for the image stabilization, Panasonic always have better IBIS than Sony. But this a6600 still got some pretty cool features, such as the Eye AF. The eye af is amazing. It tracks the subject really well. Never missed the focus. Which Fuji and Panasonic can’t give it to you. Also the 6K oversampling 4K image is very nice on the a6600 😉
Go with the a6400, pretty much the same camera as the a6600 in IQ minus some features like ibis, bigger battery+grip/better ergnomics, headphone jack, eyeAF in video

the video is shot very well but the funnel of 4: 2: 0 at 8 bit at low bit rate unfortunately betrays a camera for amateur and certainly not professional use
Guyanese Joeflirt I love the a6600 too. I know a lot of people disappointed about this camera. Very high price but still 8Bit 4:2:0 4K up to 100mbps. But the 4K image coming out from this camera still amazing. It’s a great travel camera I reckon ☺️
I paid 1100 for mines while I had to decide between a6400 which was 989 I put the extra cash and got the a6600 never regret it I’m sticking with it I’m truly deeply in love with this camera
the sony a7iii and tamron lenses are full frame, cheaper and lighter its a no brainer, and better option than the a6600 price point with the G kit lens they are selling with it.

If you don’t a budget, I would say yea go for the a6600. Much better eye af, and bigger battery. But the a6600 is a bit out of your price range. The a6400 is also a good option ☺️
I'll update as soon as i have one. It motivated me to buy because of this vid
Do u selling your LUT? 😅
the video is shot very well but the funnel of 4: 2: 0 at 8 bit at low bit rate unfortunately betrays a camera for amateur and certainly not professional use
why you filming and music remind me a Japanese movie "Calmi Cuori Appassionati" "冷静と情熱のあいだ, れいせいとじょうねつのあいだ" ???????????????
Amazing 😘👌
Thank u very much ☺️
I'm looking forward when you will show us the Canon 1DX Mark III video features. That will be fantastic!!!
Yea I’m thinking to get the 1DX Mark III. Very excited about the 5.5K RAW and the Full Frame 4K ☺️☺️
Super !!
Asek nih
I own a a6600 it’s the only camera that I love and bought I have Fujifilm and Nikon and I’m so in love with my a6600 only a owner will know
Guyanese Joeflirt I love the a6600 too.
I came here for cinematic and got crushed shadows.
Those lenses tho
I dont have mony😢😢
Почему сони синит картинку
atleast use a affordable lens, not the camera priced one
👍🏻.
meh.. looks like a cheap 8bit camera.
Hey check my last 2 videos,i used the slog2,same camera and i think that u get a more cinematic look with slog, although i like the look in this video as well. Simple and efective for youtube
