- The Buyid dynasty of emirs ruled over various parts of Iraq and western Iran from 934 to 1062. In that time, they had a long lasting--if indirect--impact on the history of the middle east and Islam. By the 1020s, they were past their prime, but not yet gone, so join me as I explore the lands over which they ruled 1000 years ago.

This was really well done. This period from the early Abbasids until the Mongol invasion is always hazy to me. Too many overlapping dynasties in different regions. Meanwhile so much of the cultural production of Iran comes out of this phase.

These videos are great. Especially since I have absolutely no knowledge on the various powers from 1000 years ago.
I have a few suggestions which you are very welcome to ignore.
First, I would maybe design your thumbnail with consistency to your England video. Keep the red for the text - it is psychologically the most attractive colour. And I would keep the text in the same position, bottom left, as the England one. I would also use only one modern country name...even for the loss of historical accuracy (who needs that anyway haha). So in this case, maybe choose 'Iraq in the 1020s'. You can then explain that it isn't quite right in the video (with the added bonus of annoying a few people who will comment and drive engagement lol). Finally I'd choose a fairly simple background image, this is difficult though to know what is catchy and what is too dense.
Second, I really like your maps - do you hand-draw them? They are honestly really visually appealing and the addition of portraits for the people is a fantastic idea. I do have a couple of suggestions though, again feel free to ignore.
I would add more of a contrast to show the difference between land and sea - just a pale blue for the sea would be enough. I like how you don't draw borders, since back then borders were far more blurred, but I would potentially add the modern country borders as a very light background. I'm not sure on that one though, it might be better without. One thing I would do is leave your city markers showing at all times. There isn't really a need to switch them on and off I don't think, and it helps with understanding what I'm looking at. If you want to draw attention to the one you're talking about you could highlight it or similar.
I liked how you used different colours for each ruler - I would extend this further - why not colour their realm with their colour and have them float over it? It would provide more clarity and continuity. Have you tried keeping the realms showing at all times they are active, rather than switching them on and off? I think this would be clearer. Again, as you are talking about a particular realm, don't isolate it alone, instead, just highlight it, leaving the surrounding realms in their respective colours also showing. I think that could look pretty cool.
Third, and talking of continuity, I would really like a year counter, stuck in the bottom right, so there is a visual guide to the time passing.
And that is the end of my essay. I have absolutely no qualifications to be making these suggestions, but it was just the ideas I had as I watched. I think this series has a lot of potential, and if you can catch the algorithm a couple more times then you'll get the attention your effort deserves. Cheers

As a Daylamite I really appreciate the work you have put into this. I came here curious about my ancestors. Considering my grandpa was from Lorestan, one of my ancestors must have came there as part of these operations.

What are your thoughts on the theory about climatic catastrophe which hit Iran and the eastern Mediterranean posited by Richard Bulliet and Ronnie Ellenblum, for the decline of Buyids, Ghaznavids, Byzantines, Fatimids etc and the shocking successes of the Seljuks
Also, how did the impoverished Abbasid state still manage to import Turkic slaves to Baghdad despite Buyid dominance?

Like did they view literature different to us moderns and post moderns?
For example different genres, or different emphasis… etc etc

There's so much to say on medieval literature! Too much for one comment, but know that there were certainly plenty of genres, like romance, epic poetry, panegyric, fabliaux, pastourelles, hagiography, and more. Emphasis could vary depending on the genre, with hagiography being based around showing off someone's holiness, and romance being about a mix of adventure and chivalric ideals.
I will definitely get around to more literature based videos in the future. If you want a look now though, my video on "Gerald of Wales and the Wonders of Medieval Ireland" goes through his book which is a sort of ethnography/history of Ireland.
@@studiumhistoriae thanks, I guess I’m curious owing to your expertise. My belief is that literature descended with modernity into the bourgeois novel and hero.
This lost the more mythic and poetic form with as you say the chivalric and religious conception.
