    I want to thank you, I took three years of spanish in school and nothing stuck, I've been watching your videos since early February and I've filled two notebooks with the lessons and practice. I've learned so much from your breakdowns and the way you build on past lessons while teaching new concepts when you give examples really helps cement the ideas. I'm already able to read simple sentences in Spanish more from their sentence structure and grammar rather than vocabulary, so while I don't always know what exactly is happening I know what pronoun is being used, and to who it is being done, and usually the context fills in the vocab gap, haha
    I went out and bought 3 more cuadernos to keep the learning going, it's been a very positive thing through this current isolation.
    Keep up the amazing work! Thank you!

      I have a suggestion, it's really helped me. Your comment caught my eye, I can relate. I listen to Tejano music, especially Selena. I listen to the song and most of them are either catchy or beautiful, then I look at the translation. By now I know what she's singing, I know the songs word for word, I'm able to internalize the song with the language and makes it so much fun to learn! I recently discovered this learning channel and it's helped more than all my other attempts at learning this language. I'm thinking the combination of these two approaches is going to make my goal of becoming fluent a reality. I'm not there yet but I will get there!

      I am a native Spanish and the truth is that a phrase from a regular Guy here could be perfectly: "Lo _que_ te quería decir es _que_ lo _que_ hay _que_ hacer es _que_ tenemos _que_ planear una cosa _que_ era para antes pero _que_ ahora ya no hace falta _porque_ lo _que_ hay que pensar ahora es como vamos a cargarnos la bronca de la _que_ nos lo ha mandado"
      That Guy would more or less mean something like: What _I_ wanted to tell you is _that_ what there is _to_ do is _that_ we _have to_ plan something _that_ was for before but _that_ now it is no longer necessary _because_ what _what_ we have to think about now is how are we going to get rid of the anger of the _who_ has sent it to us.

It’s easy to learn words but without being able to express yourself in the correct way speaking to a native speaker can be difficult. By watching your lessons and using a popular language app, I can generally understand and be understood when speaking with my neighbours and locals in Andalusia. Hello Dr. Evans. I really appreciate how you are helping all of us learn Spanish. This is probably one of the best resources online. Thank you so much. I have a question about a translation and I can't find an answer to this anywhere.
    English - I know that she is coming to the party
    Your answer - Yo Se que ella viene a la fiesta
    Why not - Yo Sé que ella está viniendo a la fiesta because it has 'she is coming' ???

    • @MrSmith1O1
      @MrSmith1O1 4 роки тому +2

      Progressive tenses are not as common in Spanish as in English. You can translate "What are you doing?" as "¿Qué estás haciendo?" or "¿Qué haces?" with any change in the meaning. Although, some verbs, as "IR" o "VENIR", sounds weird in progressive tenses. So, "I'm coming!" is naturally translate as "¡Voy!" and not as "¡Estoy yendo!" nor "¡Estoy viniendo!".

    May I ask: aren't the second clauses, in all the examples, independent as well as the first. Is not 'que' serving as a coordinating and not a subordinating conjunction? I'm a bit slow but, I get there eventually!

    Thanks Dr. Evans, this was very helpful. I had previously been quite confused reading Spanish sentences with "que".

    I just now discovered you, after doing three years of beginners classes. My problem with these classes is , that they don't have much structure. I am not a young person...so I need a structure ...and you are brilliant in it.

      You need to utilize other sources like books and other channels, don’t wait for a response from the creator! One book I like is “Complete Spanish Step-By-Step”

    The word que was so confusing. I felt like it was being used in Spanish sentences in random places, like every other word or wherever it seemed nice. So the first thing you do then is see if Dr Danny Evans made a video and he did. Woohoo so now it's a lot more clear. Thank you.
