I noticed the smile set on your face talking about your Starlink... My friends tell me that when I talk about my internet now there is a smile on my face. I live in central Florida. For 20 years I've been trying for decent Satellite service. When I moved here I put in 2 ISDN lines from Verizon to accomplish a whopping 256 kbs!!!! I was the 1st DSL customer in our community, and was in 7th heaven with 3 mps... until Verizon oversold the serviced and we all dropped to 500 kps -1.5 mbs. I got inline for Starlink back in Feb 2021. I received my system in Dec 2021, 10 months later.... So for the last 2 months, after a 21 year wait... I FINALLY HAVE DECENT INTERNET!!! THANK YOU ELON MUSK FOR YOUR GREAT COMPANY STARLINK!!!! Pat Landy
Great news for all the digital nomads , youtubers and such. I dont need that much internet ( for the price) but very interesting , and will be following . Thanks Ed..
@Rob Hebbs It is great news (as long as it works well out on the road...) I'm sure price will eventually come down as it seems to do with all technology. Thanks for watching and following Rob!
That's the coolest sounding speed test I've ever heard and you look alot warmer than Johnny right now. Merry Christmas to you guys and looking forward to your videos next year Ed!
@Crypto Overdrive Haha. Thanks John! You’re the first to comment on the speed test sound effect. Glad you liked it! Couldn’t you just picture top fuel drag racers flying down the track? Lol. Merry Christmas to you as well!
@Minimal-ish Awesome! It's been incredible these past 2 weeks, although we haven't tried moving locations yet. Will be testing that out next week and putting out an update. 🤞🏻
Just came across your video doing research for my van build. Very informative thanks for all the information! You are very easy to listen to. Looking forward to your videos as you travel west👍
Wow! I've been waiting and waiting for this to officially come out for RV'ers! Didn't think a person had the ability to change locations so easy! Thanks for the information, signed up for ours.
@Brett Hackman Hey Brett! We're really excited too! Please keep in mind though that there's no guarantee of service when you move to a new location and we are taking a risk to find out how well this will work once we hit the road. I'll be reviewing this further in our next video and then doing some test moves in the video after that before we finally hit the road 3rd week of January to head out west.
@@EddieAtLarge for sure we realize that it will be touch and go as far as service. Hoping while on the waiting list, they do some more launches and get more up there! We will keep our Verizon Visible Hotspot for a backup. Currently in Southern Arizon for the winter. Safe travels to you on your journey west!!
@Brett Hackman 👍🏻 My guess is that service will be good out west as I believe they are concentrating on getting service to the less populated areas first. Our first stop is Quartzite, AZ for the RV Rally. Safe travels to you as well!
@@EddieAtLarge LOL were about 125 miles away in Gila Bend Arizona. Military base here, cheap for us to spend the winter. Planning on going up to Quartzsite mid January. Would be nice to meet you if there is a chance. See your setup and more importantly, sew if you get service here!!
@Brett Hackman Sure! We're on Facebook. Feel free to send us a message through FB messenger when you get there and we can set up a day and time to meet up. Talk to you soon!
Thanks for the info! Just ordered ours. How did you run your cable up into the RV? Did you have to drill in, or is there an opening/outlet I should be looking for? Thanks.
@Tiffany Welch Homesteadnmama Hi Tiffany! We currently just have the Starlink wireless router plugged into and outlet in our RV "Basement" and we ran the wire up through the hole where the water supply hose enters the RV wet bay. This is just a temporary setup that is working fine for now. I have ordered a permanent roof mount for the dish from Starlink and when I install that, I will run the wire down through the refrigerator exhaust roof vent and down into an area above the kitchen. Another option to get the wire in would be to push it through along the side of an RV slide at the weatherstripping, however, I wouldn't want to do this all the time when we are traveling. I'll be doing more videos and will show the permanent roof install and wire run and will also review these other options and more. The mount is on backorder right now, so, it'll be a while till I can do that video. Hope that helps answer your questions!
This is amazing, Ed! Can't wait to follow you on your West Coast trip and see how this works out. Game changer is the right word! Happy New Year to you, Anna and Selena!
This will be great for you and other full timers. For me and my wife, this is the time we like to unplug. So if we don’t have cell service, then we’re good. It will be interesting to see how it works out. Ram
Definitely following and interested. The main reason I have not gone on the road for extended periods is internet. I could work from the road as long as there is reliable internet. I use VPN connections and also use zoom audio now. Speed seems very good for mobile internet. Price is not cheap but it’s the same as I pay at home so not bad.
So may have answered already but do you add new service address prior to arriving at location or after? Does it matter? Thanks for great videos just subscribed
@Walt Chilcott Thanks Walt! We are adding the new address prior to moving although it would be possible to add the new address when you arrive via your cell phone and the Starlink website (as long as you have cell service). That being said, stay tuned for updates as we are finding Starlink service is still very limited at this time.
@Movie Games There is no Ethernet port on the new router, however, there is an Ethernet adapter that can be purchased from Starlink. One of our subscribers said that he did achieve faster speeds with the Ethernet cable. He did not specify how fast though. For us, the speeds we are getting are worlds apart from our old cellular internet service which was only getting 5 to 15 mbps at best (we don’t have access to cable or DSL since we are traveling full time in our RV). We are extremely happy with Starlink so far. We’ll know more though once hit the road again.
the ethernet dongle is $20..my husband is setting up network and so far we're just using the wifi, he's talking about the dongle for our big puters and media server, but we'll see
Cool!! First off, Merry Christmas 🎁🎄!!! Now, question - how long was the wait from registering to when u got the system? Stay safe, stay healthy - enjoy ur stuff.
@John Karlson Hello John and Merry Christmas to you as well! We registered and put a deposit down on August 1st. So, about 4 1/2 months. I do know it all depends on your location as well. There are other folks that we know who have been waiting much longer and because Starlink hasn't authorized shipment to their location yet, they are not expected to receive theirs until later next year. We were lucky I guess! Hope you have a safe and Happy New Year also!
Yep. I do speed tests on a regular basis and last one I had over 200 was back on June 8th. This may be because I’m on Portability while we’re traveling. We’ll return to home base in October and will be interested to see if they increase when Portability is paused.
@Kirk ray It's really easy to switch locations and does not cost anything more. You have both a shipping address and a service address. You only change the service address which is done inside your account on the Starlink website. Just click on "Change Location Details" or click on the map and you'll be able to change the service address to your new location (as long as the cell is not full and Starlink is currently available there). For now, availability for changing service has been very limited. Our next couple of videos will go over all of this in more detail.
Thank you very much for sharing the video. I want to ask, if the speed of the RV is about 80, is there any signal? then. Is it sold outside the United States?
@王昌昊hugh Hello! Starlink is not mobile at this time. They will be coming out with a mobile version though in the near future. It is sold outside of the United States, however, that is also limited to certain regions and countries. Starlink is expected to eventually be available worldwide. They currently have about 1700 satellites in orbit and plan to have up to 30,000 total when complete.
@@EddieAtLarge Thanks Eddie! The Mrs. and I are going to spend a month in Idaho, getting out of the Phoenix heat, and we have to have our high speed internet. :) Hope things are well. Appreciate all your help as usual.
Cool. You are more than welcome. Heading to the Sawtooth Mountains? We haven’t been there yet, but, heard it’s spectacular and plan to go there sometime soon. Another great spot is Island Park, ID up near West Yellowstone. Also spent some time near Coeur d'Alene last year.
@@EddieAtLarge Going to home base near Ririe (Idaho Falls area) - Our first long distance trip with 5th wheel, think it's going to be a real learning curve.
@@EddieAtLarge Sorry to keep bothering you, turns out we don't have a plug in our basement so I'm going to have to fish the cable into 5th wheel. I see that some slide it through slide out before opening all the way. You think this is an ok alternative?
@Cowboy Biker Adventures Hey Don! Merry Christmas! I ordered a special roof mount from Starlink (currently backordered) that will be a permanent mount, however, the dish will be removed from the roof mount and taken down during travel. The dish will snap into the roof mount as was shown in the video on the standard base. I'll be doing a video on that when I receive and install the roof mount. Starlink is working on another version of dish that will be made to mount permanently on vehicles and would give users internet access while traveling. Hope that answers your questions!
Here’s our playlist where we provide details of our speed tests throughout our travels. STARLINK ua-cam.com/play/PL0wg_z4gcwTjsYInrVF6gANTt9uYeyXOz.html
My understanding is that there is no reservstion of your right to connect at your original location after you change it. You might find yourself on a waiting list upon returning home.
@Michael Stora That is our understanding as well. We won’t be returning to this area again until later in the year. Hopefully there will be more capacity per cell by then and we won’t have a problem getting a slot. 🤞
Great info. I didn't know starlink was available here. As much as I feel like disconnecting from all this, it is good to know of such improved devices. At least web surfing is becoming better and better........until the satellites are knocked out. Lol.
@T Kilg It is! 😉 Ya, this thing is amazing (at least in this location...). I was thinking that same thing. I bet it would be so easy for the Russians or Chinese to take those satellites out with some well placed missiles. 🚀🚀🚀
Those satellites are in space 500km away, even if somebody can get a missile up there you would still have to hit it. They're are orbiting at 17000km/hour. Maybe spend 1 billion to hit a couple of satellites. Currently there's ~2000 and more each month.
@@arturoducati I'm going by the news reports about China deploying killer satellites that can take out other satellites. I am hoping that those news reports are just for fear purposes, but when you consider the importance of satellite use by the military as well as the world economy, they would be a primary first strike target.
Hi Deborah, you will need a phone that has the capability to download the Starlink app so that you can complete the setup, be able to change settings for the dish and monitor the status. You can connect your smart tv to your Starlink network, however, i don't know if you'll be able to set up Starlink through your tv if that is what you are asking.
@@EddieAtLarge thanks for the reply. I was thinking it might be possible to setup and change settings settings using my lap top. Be well. I do have a Verizon Hot spot I use on the road. I would like a system I can use on the road and in home too. Again thank you for the reply.
No problem! Looks like you may be able to use an Android emulator program on your laptop such as Nox to complete the setup and monitor the dish. Here is a link to a Reddit thread regarding that: www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/kakecn/starlink_app_on_pc_android_emulator/ Hope this helps!
so i heard the starlink is region lock! could your corroborate this if this is the case? also have you experienced slow down speeds from the speeds on this video?
@Isaac Mondragon Hey Isaac. We left Texas and are now in Arizona near the California border. We were still able to get service out here by changing our service location, although we weren’t able to get service everywhere on the trip out (Service in only 2 of 4 locations). Service will be limited for a while until they get more satellites up. Speeds are a little slower, but, still in the 100-200+ Mbps range. We are using service location coordinates that are 4 miles from us as technically we do not have service at our exact location. This may be slowing the speeds down a bit. More info to come in our upcoming videos.
@@EddieAtLarge interesting! have starlink noe station temporarily in my home but would love to bring it with me in the summer to vacation. and your information has been very useful to answer my questions about this! please keep us updated i will subscribe to your channel 👍🏻 thanks
IT’S NOT WORKING!!!! Just received my Starlink. 7.5 months. Ordered it while home in Wyoming. Got my notice it was ready to ship while we are wintering with our RV in Yuma AZ. Had them ship it to us here. Set it up last night and went to change service address to Boondocking area using the map and GPS location on Starlink in my account. Comes up no aervice available. 😬 I am leaving it on the Wyoming home address until we can find a location that it will work. Any other ideas to get service? You can move around the map and check locations which I have done and as far as I can tell there isn’t any service in a two hundred mile radius to the north/east or west of my location. Can’t believe that can be true. If it is then Starlink will be worthless. Looking for suggestions.
@Ralph Lumbard Hey Ralph, can you give me your approximate location in Yuma? I can see if I can pinpoint an open location for you. As long as it's within 10 miles from your location, you should be able to get service. If you don't want to post your location here, you can send me a message on our Facebook page through FB messenger. facebook.com/HomieAtLarge
@Joey G Hi Joey, we talked about this a little in the Q&A section where we had some experience with clouds and high winds with no issues. Our friends have been through moderate rain and still have had 100-200 Mbps speeds and no service interruption. We will be testing this out further though and will be updating our viewers in future videos as to how it performs in thunder storms. Here is a statement from Starlink regarding performance during inclement weather: “Starlink is designed and tested to handle a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions including snow, hail, sleet, heavy rain, and extreme heat. Starlink is not designed to handle hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, meteors, dinosaurs, or other extreme forces of nature.”
@Joey G Well, we just had our first big rain storm. It was a big one and dumped a ton of rain on us. Starlink got knocked out for 32 minutes. 😢 We'll keep tracking this and put out future updates to let everyone know how it does in other storm events.
I have my new square dish installed for a month now. Did not work for the first two days and had to do a 15 min unplug and it took about 20 min to get internet. I got the ethernet box but have been unable to get it to work. Like to see a vid on its use and installation. Just now got 160mpps down 21mpps upload
@Ed KE6BNL Hi Ed. Sounds like you bought the ethernet adapter kit from Starlink that would be used for a hardwired connection to the router? We didn't purchase that as we don't have a need for a wired connection. I'm thinking that it should be plug and play where you would connect your device to the router with the ethernet cord and then be able to see it in the Starlink app. What are you trying to hardwire to the router? Guessing maybe a laptop or PC?
@@EddieAtLarge I ordered it at the same time as the order went through for the dish. and it does sit next to the computer and hard wire is nice. But when hooked up it shows connected no internet. Not a deal breaker the starlink router seems to do a good job. after I was able to switch out all my devices to the starlink router.
@Alta Daniel Very sorry. I don't understand what you are asking for. Can you give some more information on what you are trying to do? Google Maps will show both Latitude and Longitude for places on the map.
@Michael Wayne That is Port Aransas. Lots of condos to rent there and if you have an RV, plenty of RV parks or you can camp right on the beach. Just need to purchase a $12 beach parking pass good for 1 year.
@Jayson Sage Thanks for letting us know! I had added this video then deleted and re-uploaded after further editing. Not sure why it was showing up in the playlist as UA-cam had it marked as hidden. I just went in and deleted the hidden video. Our new Starlink video should be out later this week.
Damn, 6A is really wasteful considering it will pull as little as 33W in other tests I’ve seen. I’d bet it’d use even less if it were a 12v device. Disappointing design decision by starlink.
There are some hacks out there for cutting the Starlink cable, adding a 12v POE injector and deleting the Starlink router. Check out the Facebook Group “Starlink Hacks”. Agreed on the disappointing design. Hoping they come out with something down the road that works solely off of 12v.
@Scott cheney There was a leaked email from Elon Musk to his employees around the end of November stating: "The consequences for SpaceX if we can not get enough reliable Raptors made is that we then can't fly Starship, which means we then can't fly Starlink Satellite V2. Satellite V1, by itself, is financially weak, while V2 is strong," And here's the Tweet from Elon Musk after the leaked email: "If a severe global recession were to dry up capital availability / liquidity while SpaceX was losing billions on Starlink (and) Starship, then bankruptcy, while still unlikely, is not impossible," All that being said, this isn't the first time SpaceX has faced the possibility of bankruptcy. I personally believe they'll overcome their obstacles as before. IMO, they need to launch and IPO for SpaceX/Starlink to raise enough money to keep it afloat until they can become profitable. Not sure why they haven't done so already...
@@EddieAtLarge Probably that Starlink is still far from making profits. Although launching is a lot cheaper than before, it is still very expensive. Making satellites is very expensive. They are most likely still selling the dish at a big loss. The capacity still can't support massive users in a cell area. That's why Elon in his emails pointed out further reducing cost and increasing capacity by launching with starship is crucial.
@ICWe812 It is mobile in respect to being able to take it from one location and setting it up at another location just by going into the location map in the app. What we'll be bringing to the table is letting people know how well this will or will not work while we're out on the road. It may turn out to be a bust, however, we don't think that will be the case. That is why we're taking the risk of paying for the equipment and service, testing it out and we will be informing people in our future videos if this is in fact a viable solution or not.
For us it only uses 65 Watts on average. 1560 Watt Hours per day. Some people have managed to make their own DC power supply and they claim it then only uses 35 Watts or 840 Watt Hours per day. Check out this post for more info. www.offgridcto.com/2022/05/23/starlink-on-pure-dc-power/
is this practical for using in the city? I live in a town that is 7,000 pop. and considered a rural town. or would there be interference from Spectrum, etc...
@Mr PooPooHead It should be fine for any location as long as you won't have anything blocking the "view" of the dish such as a tree branch, pole, or roof as that will cause service interruptions. I don't believe there would be any interference from other service providers. Starlink has a Visibility Tool in the app that helps you with this that I'll be showing the use of in our next video.

Hi Ed, do you leave the dish mounted on roof of your RV going down the road? Merry Christmas. Don
@@EddieAtLarge Yes Ed that is kind of what I thought. Thanks. Don
What’s the ping? How low is the latency? Does it vary in different areas?
Here’s our playlist where we provide details of our speed tests throughout our travels. STARLINK

when did you order?
August 1st
So I have a flip phone so might Starlink not work for me? Can you also use for a smart TV?
The biggest problem with satalit TV is during bad weather. How will starlink Internet differ from satellite TV transmission.
So it gen 2 faster then gen 1 in MBPS?
@Rain csites I've heard from people with the gen 1 dish that they are getting similar speeds to the gen 2.
@Ed KE6BNL Here's a video that I found on the ethernet adapter install and setup. Hope this helps you out! ua-cam.com/video/2nIvhk-tkqg/v-deo.html
@@EddieAtLarge thanks for youtube link I got it to work and with the ethernet cable to the computer it seems to work a lot better thanks for the help
Ed KE6BNL Great to hear Ed!
Can you tell us about these Latitude numbers? I think my Lat. is 33.
@Alta Daniel Are you referring to your home Latitude and Longitude on the Live Starlink Satellite map?
@@EddieAtLarge No. Just regular Latitude and Longitude.
@Alta Daniel Very sorry. I don't understand what you are asking for. Can you give some more information on what you are trying to do? Google Maps will show both Latitude and Longitude for places on the map.
Thanks for the update. Great info!
@Johnny Greene Thanks Johnny!
What beach is that? I'm in Oklahoma and looking for a good beach in south Texas to take the kids.
@Michael Wayne That is Port Aransas. Lots of condos to rent there and if you have an RV, plenty of RV parks or you can camp right on the beach. Just need to purchase a $12 beach parking pass good for 1 year.
@@EddieAtLarge wow thats awesome. Thank you for the information? Can you drive your car on that beach?
@Michael Wayne 👍🏻 You can drive on it and even camp on it in your RV. It's really well maintained.
What's up with the 3rd video in this playlist? My last comment was deleted.
@Jayson Sage Thanks for letting us know! I had added this video then deleted and re-uploaded after further editing. Not sure why it was showing up in the playlist as UA-cam had it marked as hidden. I just went in and deleted the hidden video. Our new Starlink video should be out later this week.
Hi daer buy link
?
Damn, 6A is really wasteful considering it will pull as little as 33W in other tests I’ve seen. I’d bet it’d use even less if it were a 12v device. Disappointing design decision by starlink.
There are some hacks out there for cutting the Starlink cable, adding a 12v POE injector and deleting the Starlink router. Check out the Facebook Group “Starlink Hacks”. Agreed on the disappointing design. Hoping they come out with something down the road that works solely off of 12v.
I'm hearing that Starlink might go bankrupt
How is this a solution for RVers? It is not mobile ready for those who travel. You are just trying to get subscribers by providing old information.
@ICWe812 It is mobile in respect to being able to take it from one location and setting it up at another location just by going into the location map in the app. What we'll be bringing to the table is letting people know how well this will or will not work while we're out on the road. It may turn out to be a bust, however, we don't think that will be the case. That is why we're taking the risk of paying for the equipment and service, testing it out and we will be informing people in our future videos if this is in fact a viable solution or not.
starlink = 2400 watts per day = caca
