We are parked semi-perm in a remote location in our RV and Wi_fi calling is the ONLY way we can get even a text out. We've had Starlink for 4 months and just LOVE it.
We just got our starlink RV package yesterday here in Florida, received it less than two weeks after ordering it. Trees are a problem here in Florida, so we will have to keep a LTE connection when we cant get good sky at some campgrounds.
Hi Larry, congratulations! You’re going to love it. Yes, trees will be an issue for you. We haven’t had any real issues here out West, but, I can imagine Florida will be a problem. From my understanding, with the Starlink for RVs version, you don’t have a Service Address and that means you can’t turn Portability on and off to save the $25 per month. Is that correct?
This Starlink sounds wonderful for folks that are full time. You really did a great explanation of it. (You’d make a great salesman 😉) My wife and I love the e-bikes. We’ve used them in Germany, Idaho and recently in Zion (the best way to see Zion). The e-bike trail bike makes sense! Looks like you are having a blast there! Thank you for sharing. Ram 👍🏼
Hey David! Yes, Starlink has been amazing for us. It really does kinda sell itself. I could say the same thing about my Sur Ron e-dirt bike. So much fun to ride. We’re currently out near Tonopah, NV and as you can imagine, there are plenty of places to ride and explore. Hope your trip is going well!
I tried that Starlink portability for a month. It was slower than old dialup. You must be very lucky where you are. Or because you are an influencer they treat you better
We’ve traveled all over the West and had great results. We got back East to Ohio up near Cleveland and had terrible service (less than 1 Mbps) at times. Back in Texas and all is well again. I think it really depends where you are. If you’re in a highly congested cell, it will most likely be throttled down. We don’t like to be in populated areas, so, I think it will work well for us and that’s kind of what it’s intended for. Curious, where you using it in a populated area or in an area within 12 miles of a population center?
Always do a reboot from within the Starlink App on the wifi and the router once a day. That will dramatically help with speeds... Also put the dish into stow mode and then hit un stow once a day and that will also force to dish to find a more preferred satellite which helps the speeds big time. I am in a waitlist area with the RV version and my speeds are always up near 70-100Mb download. Get 2-3 mesh units as well.... Huge difference !! AWESOME!!!
As we prepare to go to "PART TIME" (we will keep our home, but travel many months at a time) It good to hear your results. Thanks for the video. Good info.
@@EddieAtLarge We'll probably start early next year. I'm a planner and already have things mapped out. Just need to get all of my proverbial ducks in that dag gone row!
@@EddieAtLarge I still work and work remote. I've been testing and have tested a internet solution (my video on that coming soon... yeah, Cheap plug, LOL). It is very doable. BUT... BUT.. Starlink looks to be the better option. More to come.
Cool! I’ll keep an eye out for your video! Marc from Grand Adventure works remote full time with an insurance company and hasn’t had any issues using Starlink. He said it even works well for his Zoom meetings. Only downside like I said in the video is if you’re going to park where there are a lot of trees near the coast or in thick Forest land.
I see you have the antenna on the roof, where have you put the router without putting holes in the rv for the cables? Plus I have starlink at my home, do you know if I can use the unit in our rv as well?
Hi Tami, we keep the router in our 5th Wheel trailer’s “basement” where there is an outlet. We run the wire into the Wet Bay where the water hose would enter when on hookups and that is adjacent to the basement area. I’ll show this in more detail in our next video. Yes, you can use your home Starlink dish on the road. You will need to enable the Portability feature on your account for an additional $25 per month. You can turn this off when not traveling to save the $25.
Glad you found it helpful! Our campsite was at Cave Lake State Park near Ely, Nevada. Beautiful park with nice hiking trails. The old mining town of Ely was nice as well. They have an operational steam locomotive train there that we took a ride on. Here's the link to the video from our friends at Grand Adventure UA-cam channel who we camped with at Cave Lake. ua-cam.com/video/kxdUiAVDJAs/v-deo.html
So, even with the portability option, will it not work in the "wait list" areas? (as per the map). Which means it still won't work within dozens of miles near all big and small towns?
Hi Lawrence, this is direct from Starlink's Support FAQ page: "Portability feature enables users to temporarily move their Starlink to new locations in order to receive service anywhere within the same continent Starlink provides active coverage. To see active coverage areas, please view the Starlink Availability Map. Portable users are served best effort and can expect lower service levels than fixed users, particularly in areas marked as "Waitlist" on the Availability Map." To summarize, Starlink will work everywhere that they show coverage on their Availability Map, even in Waitlist areas. However, you may receive slower speeds with possible interruptions in the Waitlist areas. This is because Starlink prioritizes network resources for users at their registered service address for those areas.
I just got my Starlink RV unit, I ordered it June 7th and got it delivered June 13th! Looking on the site I am wanting to buy the roof mount but I am only seeing the swivel mount, has that replaced the mount you used?

Do you drive with the antenna on the roof or do you take it down before to drive? I’m hoping I am mount it on the roof and leave it there while driving.
Technically, you can run up to a 328’ cable which is the max POE (Power Over Ethernet) length. However, you may need to use a CAT6A cable like this guy did ua-cam.com/video/Rz92QR2fQxU/v-deo.html so that it’s all one continuous cable. The new square dishy uses what looks like a USB C connector to plug into both dish and router. Not sure if you could find a coupler to marry the 75’ and 150’ cables that would still work to transmit both power and information properly. Starlink does not sell one.
I can't believe Starlink has already been around almost 2 year's also glad u know about visible and money saving options like that I found a free tethering app that works no bullcrap but I believe it's only for Android only downside is there is a 21 Day Full Speed trial after that it's reduced to only about 1 Meg or a bit less depending on your cell service because if you only have like 3G here barely one bar for you you're only going to get like 800 KB but normally you'll get at least one megabyte because one megabyte usually needs like one bar in fact unless you were pretty isolated in a really rural area 3G usually gets you above one megabyte or very slightly below one megabyte believe but it's a one-time purchase and I believe it's only $3 $4 it seems very sketch but it's legit he uses some sort of portal that want to use it I don't know it's weird I'm not an internet guru I know a lot about internet but I'm not a big nerd about it it's called securetether again I believe it's only on Android but it might be on iPhone
Hey Jaxon, some of those apps do worry me as I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to getting hacked. I did try to use a few of them, but, ultimately decided that it wasn't worth the risk and they didn't work for me anyway. So glad Starlink came along. It completely kills it when it comes to comparing speeds to any cell network. We'll definitely only be using Visible for phone service and not as a hotspot. Thanks for the suggestion on the tether app. Though, I hope to never have to go back to those days now that we have Starlink. Thank for watching and commenting! ✌🏻
@@EddieAtLarge I 100% understand what you mean and I'm glad you find a reliable option hopefully more people can get strong in the future it's just the cost is what holds people back from getting it if it was a lot cheaper everyone would be getting it but I understand the technology behind it it makes sense it's expensive

what about power consumption can you tell me in watts or amper how much is power consumption ?
Goes up to about 110 - 120 watts on startup. Approximately 65 Watts on average during normal operation.
