Yes it does fit a 5.5. It's on my f150 5.5. Hangs a couple inches past the tail gate. But if you're putting this camper on a half ton I would suggest airbags and if possible extra leaf springs make a huge difference.

Thanks for the greywater update I couldn't tell from The Outpost RV video he said something about the sink draining outside but so I guess the little tiny gray water tank is just for the shower I wish the holding tanks were bigger that way you don't have to empty it every time you take a shower

Yeah, the kitchen sink drains outside below the city water connection and yes, the gray holding tank is shower and black is of course toilet and both are quite small! I’ve been able to do a couple of quick rinse offs before it’s time to dump. Technically you’re not supposed to allow the sink water to simply drain out onto the ground and I know the state parks here in Texas will fine you. To me it’s not any different than washing hands out at the water spigot but that’s the deal I guess. I thought an empty gallon jug would work and that could be poured out at the campground restrooms or the dump station. Thanks for the comment!

Yeah thinking about getting that model or the next model up I think it has a oven and the fridge is a little bit bigger tanks I think they're the same size... but the most confusing thing is some places are selling these 35k up to some of them are selling them for 24k ..so I don't know who to believe and what to pay

Personally I don't think I would pay more than 25k for the 750

Yes, the HS 8801 is a nice unit and depending on how they’re optioned out the price can get up there! I wanted the Badland package on my HS-750 which includes extra battery tray (you can have up to 3 batteries), solar panel and Thule roof rack. I also ordered the electric jacks, still waiting on those though. I was right at $29,000 out the door. This included the installation of the Tork Lift frame mount and Fastgun tie downs.
You’re right though, truck camper prices can be all over the place. For example, the Lance 1172 is a beautiful rig (definitely need a one ton duelly for that bad boy) and fully optioned out you’ll find yourself in the neighborhood of $70,000! Lance makes a great product though.

For the money, the Palomino series is supposed to be quote a deal. Is a 12vdc compressor fridge available? I have read they seem to be low-draw and very efficient. Good choice. I hope you have loads of fun.

Thank you for the comment! So far I couldn’t be happier with the Palomino Backpack series. For an 8’ 2” floor length camper it’s very roomy and comfortable. The build quality is good to, feels very solid. As for the fridge, I know 12VDC compressor fridges are available for RV applications but the Dometic absorption style is the more common choice of most RV manufacturers including Forest River’s Palomino line.

One thing I meant to add, you are right, the compressor style is a better choice when operating on DC. Absorption fridges will drain a battery in a hurry for sure! Also, compressor types can operate in uneven terrain where absorption types need to remain mostly level for maximum efficiency.

Not true on the gas! There is a safety if the flame goes out, no flame no gas! There are also outside vents in the worst case scenario. Gas is the most efficient way to cool the fridge.

If possible, can you tell me how far the camper sticks out past the hitch receiver? Easier yet, how man inches from top of tail gate to the camper? Looks like 4-7 inches. Thanks.

      Hey Mark!
The camper loads very easily with the tailgate down (no need to remove it) and there is about 5 inches of tailgate protruding out past the threshold of the camper door. Makes a nice additional step and the tailgate doesn’t carry any burden of the campers weight. I towed my buddies boat trailer without any mods to the receiver with the camper loaded. Hope this helps. Thanks for reaching out!
