    You did a fantastic job reviewing all the features in the camper. I have one question. Is there a on board 120 volt convertor/charger that charges the 12 volt battery when the camper is plugged into 120 volts ?

      Heck yeah! I’m a home brewer as well! Maybe I should do a video on that🤔 Thank you for tuning in and for the comment! The short answer is yes, I have very much enjoyed the camper! It has kept us warm in the Colorado winter and nice and cool in the Texas heat. It’s also kept us nice and dry during some crazy rain storms! There have been a few nickel and dime items that have needed attention but that’s to be expected with any RV really. I have replaced those freakin freezer door spring hinges several times already but that’s a Dometic thing not a Palomino thing. I can’t find any that will last more than a season! The camper feels solid overall however, I have had to re-secure loose trim here and there and re-adhere some wall paper in the overhead bunk area (likely a result of the 110 degree summers we get here in Texas) but overall, feels solid. The electric jacks are a must as well! I paid right at 30,000 out the door and that even included the Torklift frame mounted tie downs, the Fast Gun turnbuckles, battery, full propane, electric jacks and AC. Given the cost of many other truck campers out there, not a bad deal! Are you considering an HS-750? Let me know what direction you decide to go! Thanks again for checking in and I’ll see you down the road!

      Good morning and thanks for the comment! After owning my HS-750 for a little over two years, the short answer to your question would be overall I am very happy with the camper. I paid right at $28,000 out the door which included the Torklift tie downs mounted to my truck as well as the Fastgun turnbuckles. With this in mind, I feel it was a lot of bang for the buck, so to speak, given that some comparable slide in camper models are about twice that cost MSRP. To date I’ve had to reseal around the cab over roof vent due to a small leak and I’ve had to re-secure various trim panels that came loose on the interior but I owned a 2002 Lance 815 that I purchased new back in the day and I remember having similar issues. Oh and the spring loaded plastic clips that keep the freezer door closed love to break (that’s a Dometic issue though, not Palomino), with I could find some aluminum clips! Also, I have some wallpaper beginning to come loose in the cab over bed area but I imagine the triple digit summer temperatures we get here in Texas aren’t helping! One day I hope to have a garage big enough to keep my truck, camper and car trailer in! Overall, my Palomino HS-750 has been comfortable, has a sturdy feel to it and has sheltered me very well in both extreme cold and heat. And again, given the cost of many comparable slide in models, I would say it’s a great camper for the price. I also appreciate that fully loaded with supplies, food, water, propane and beer, it comes in at about 2800 lbs so my F-250 is quite comfortable with that! Hope this helps and please, feel free to reach out anytime with any other questions or comments, I’m always up for camper talk! Thanks!

      Thanks for your reply. I've been researching TC's for a while, and my criteria has been hard side, wet bath, relatively light weight, and the big one, price. I also have a 3/4 ton, but it is diesel and 4x4 (heavy), so my payload is just over 2800lbs. I cannot afford a new truck, or one of the other brands of TC that are 2 or 3 times the price (even used are expensive). On paper, the Palominos sure have a lot to offer for the price, but there are not many long-term reviews online (and I ignore the reviews that generalize without providing details) . For sure every brand requires maintenance, and can have issues (water leaks are the enemy of any RV). I've already installed Timbrens, and have a swaybar and tie downs on the way. I'll be ready when the opportunity presents itself. Thanks again and safe travels!

    • @Seeyoudowntheroad-bc7om
      @Seeyoudowntheroad-bc7om 3 місяці тому

      Very cool! Let me know what you decide! The diesels are awesome but they do take away available payload due to their weight…check the sticker on your driver’s side door jamb, it will give you a rough estimate of your available payload based on your truck trim package. I purchased an F-250 XL…base model with not a ton of bells and whistles but plenty to provide enough creature comforts. The more options you have, the less payload you’ll have. Based on what you mentioned, I think an HS-750 would be a good option. I’m sure you could find a gently used one for much less than a new. Keep me posted!

    I was told by ford that the payload number is based off the stock specs of the truck, and tires are one of the biggest factor. My truck came with terrible pirelli scorpian tires which drastically reduced my payload capacy. Now i have proper e rated tired and payload has been increased. Also i put in heavier duty shocks and springs and an extra set of leaf springs. I have the same camper on my f150, no issues 😊

      Good morning! I love the camper! It’s a perfect fit for me. It’s a smaller camper but is surprisingly comfortable and roomy with adequate storage space. It’s lightweight but Palomino did not shortcut the build quality to keep the weight down. I have had to make a few minor repairs like loose trim (Gorilla Glue took care of that!) and a faulty wire connection from the roof top solar panel. She’s in winter storage now but I do plan to put more videos out this spring and summer. I’d like to check out some Texas ghost towns and some reportedly haunted state parks and lakes! Are you planning to set up a truck camper rig?

      @Seeyoudowntheroad-bc7om Рік тому

      Oh yes! I have used it in freezing weather and one night in particular at Fort Richardson State Park, I had to turn the heat down and open the overhead vent! It was below freezing outside and I was getting burned out of there! December and January are busy months for me at work and I’m out of town almost every week so I do t have much spare time for camper road trips but I do have some tentative plans for February and beyond. I imagine it’s like anything else, I love my F-250 but a buddy of mine is so disappointed with his Ford truck. I’ve put about 8000 miles on my truck with the camper loaded, mostly highway but I do like to get off the pavement and explore on un-maintained trails (which is why I think truck campers are the most versatile) and haven’t had any issues to speak of. Like I mentioned, there was some trim I had to resecure and I did notice a little water ingress into the camper through the front window (the one looking into the cab of the truck) but I was driving through a deluge that afternoon! The only leak I noticed and I simply recaulked around it and haven’t had any more issues even after driving through several other rain storms. I’m confident that for the price/build quality are well balanced and I’ve had great support from the dealership. I also looked at an HS-8801 but they are about 800lbs. heavier and I wanted to conserve as much weight as possible so can add on other goodies to my camper and truck later and stay within my GVWR. My wish list consists of a new front bumper with a winch and cargo rack for more storage and a generator just to name a few!

    Can I get your personal take on this camper? Problems? Is it reliable? Does stuff break only weeks into ownership?

    • @Seeyoudowntheroad-bc7om
      @Seeyoudowntheroad-bc7om Рік тому

      I’ve used my camper extensively since I purchased it in February of last year and I would say overall, it’s served me well in both freezing temperatures and 110 degrees alike. As you know, the appliances such as fridge, furnace, AC, water heater etc., are all manufactured by different entities like Dometic for example and have been in the business for many years. That said, I have put all of the onboard appliances to the test and am very happy with their performance so far. Now, as for the camper structure itself, there have been a few items I’ve had to address. Some of the interior trim came loose around the floor moulding but Gorilla Glue came to the rescue. In addition to that, I had to have the dealer reseal the forward window (the one that looks into the cab of my truck) as water would leak into the interior of the camper when driving through heavy rain. I also had to address some loose electrical connections with the solar panel. All in all, it feels like a sturdy camper with good build quality and has kept me comfortably warm, cool and dry in several of those Texas sized storms we can experience here! So, with all of this in mind I would say the Palomino line strikes a great balance between cost and quality. I did look at several Lance campers and they may feel slightly more rugged but you’re going to pay for it. The Lance 825 (comparable to my HS-750) has an MSRP of around $50,000with standard options. The 825 is also heavier by about 400lbs. To finally answer your original question, overall I am very happy with my HS-750 and it has proven to be sturdy and reliable. Hope this helps and thanks for watching! Feel free to reach out anytime, I’m always up for truck camper talk!

    • @Seeyoudowntheroad-bc7om

      Good morning! The max payload is around 2700lbs. This figure is calculated by Ford and assumes a 150 lb. person in each seat belt position (6 places in my truck) so 900 lbs of people, full tank of gas and base model options. I chose the XL base model with the 6.2 gas engine to maximize my payload. The Diesel engine is super awesome but it’s also about 700 lbs heavier than the 6.2 so that’s 700 lbs less payload I would have. The XL is optioned out nicely I think. Hope this helps! • @Seeyoudowntheroad-bc7om
      @Seeyoudowntheroad-bc7om 2 роки тому

      Good morning and thank you for reaching out! The Chevy Silverado 2500 is a great candidate for the HS-750. You can find all of the specifics on payload on the sticker on the driver’s side door jamb including the Gross Vehicle Weight Range. Truck manufacturers design their trucks to a specific GVWR and depending on how the truck is optioned out will affect the actual payload capacity. My F-250 has a GVWR of 10,000lbs. I chose the XL trim to maximize my payload capacity as I knew I’d be hauling a camper and the additional optional equipment found on the higher trim levels like XLT, Lariat etc. will add weight to the truck and subtract from the payload capacity. While the diesel is great for torque and hauling, the Powerstroke weighs about 800lbs more than the 6.2 gasser. That’s 800lbs less I can safely haul. I imagine the Duramax is quite a bit heavier to. The HS-750 advertises a ship weight of 1870lbs. This is before adding any optional equipment such as AC, awning, microwave, solar panel etc. not to mention food, beer, camping equipment and such! A good rule of thumb is to add 1000lbs to the ship weight of the camper. The sticker on the door jamb will also tell you the axle weight range as well. You want to make sure that when you’re all loaded up and ready to hit the road, the total weight of the truck, occupants, equipment, camper and anything else you want to bring along, stays under the GVWR. Rolling down the road overweight (many rigs out there are) is not only putting undue stress on your truck but is also not safe as the braking, steering etc. will be adversely affected. As for airbags, I don’t have them installed on my truck (remember even they will add weight!) and it handles the camper great. If you experience a lot of roll in turns or the truck squats enough with the camper on that the headlights are no longer positioned correctly, you may want to consider air bags. Remember though, airbags don’t increase your GVWR! Hope this helps and please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions! I also have a video on GVWR on my channel Seeyoudowntheroad7315. I’d love to see pics of your rig once you have it set up!

      @@Seeyoudowntheroad-bc7om I'm impressed by your honest and detailed answer. I totally agree about adding 1000 lbs to the manufacturer's listed dry weight. Some 3/4 ton trucks will be at around 2700 lbs of payload which means you need to look for a camper that weighs 2000 or less. If you want the big payload numbers (max advertised payload) you really have to special order a bare-bones truck.

    If possible, can you tell me how far the camper sticks out past the hitch receiver? Easier yet, how man inches from top of tail gate to the camper? Looks like 4-7 inches. Thanks.

      Hey Mark! The camper loads very easily with the tailgate down (no need to remove it) and there is about 5 inches of tailgate protruding out past the threshold of the camper door. Makes a nice additional step and the tailgate doesn’t carry any burden of the campers weight. I towed my buddies boat trailer without any mods to the receiver with the camper loaded. Hope this helps. I would recommend a thin rubber bed mat to keep the camper from moving around in the bed. I bought one and made some shim blocks to fit between the camper box and the wheel wells. Good morning! So the sticker on the drivers side door jamb says “The combined weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed 3375lbs”. Precisely why I chose the XL trim and wanted the 6.2 to maximize my payload. Hello! How many inches does the camper stick out passed the truck bumper?

    • @Seeyoudowntheroad-bc7om
      @Seeyoudowntheroad-bc7om 2 роки тому

      Hi Paul! So the camper extends about 20” from the rear edge of my 6’ 10” bed so about 14” past the bumper itself. Towing a trailer would be no problem with this set up. I leave the tailgate on as it doesn’t support any camper weight and it extends about 5” from the back of the camper. This provides a nice foothold when entering or exiting the camper in combination with the small step ladder I’m currently using. Still considering other step options but the step ladder seems to be working well for now. Hope this helps and thank you for reaching out!

    I also have a 2022 F 250 with a short bed. , I see that you have the long bed with the tailgate down and attached. QUESTION,....How do you install the stairs and is there a problem with the loading of the camper on the tailgate ??

    • @Seeyoudowntheroad-bc7om
      @Seeyoudowntheroad-bc7om 2 роки тому

      Good morning! So, I actually have the 6.75 bed and the underside of the camper box of the HS-750 has “U” channels that run perpendicular to the centerline of the camper. They are what actually contact and rest on the bed of the truck keeping about an inch of space between the bottom of the camper box and truck bed. This allows for water drainage from heavy rain or if you want to drain the potable water tank. The aft most “U” channel sits at the very aft edge of the truck bed so the tailgate doesn’t support any camper weight, works out perfectly! As for stairs, I am currently using a step ladder to get in and out. Probably not the best option but it’s been working ok. There are several different options out there such as Glo Steps that mount directly to the camper threshold and fold into the camper when going down the road. Scissor steps are another option. They attach to brackets mounted just below the camper entry door and the steps collapse to a very compact bundle that can be stored in the truck or camper when not in use. The tailgate would likely interfere with this style however. The folding step stool I use is working fine for now and the tailgate extends about 5 inches past the back of the camper adding another step as you go in and out. The large grab handle on the Palomino line of truck campers is very helpful and makes getting in and out so much easier! Hope this helps and feel free to reach out anytime! Thanks for the questions!
