    A lot of FBI haters in the comments section. This guy isn't saying that all truckers are dangerous, but some are. They have the perfect opportunity to do this while driving cross country and a lot of time late at night. There are hookers at some truck stops and everyone knows this. The majority of truckers are honest hard working people. Unfortunately, a few bad ones give the rest a bad name,just like in the police department!

    I like the painting behind the guy being interviewed. Years ago, I hitchhiked many times back and forth from Midwest to West coast, and have had many rides from truckers, and 1) I am still alive and 2) All of them were kind, did not try anything sexual, had good conversations, were good people. Some were one man, some were couples. I never got picked up by a woman driver. I did meet one who said he was driving, and a car had the hood up, so he stopped to help them, he said they threw acid in his face, robbed him and left him on the highway.... because it was a trap, there was nothing wrong with their car. He managed to get back to his truck and rinse it off, then get help.... this was in the early 1970's when there were no cell phones. I am telling my story because sometimes we need each other, and don't be afraid of everyone. Pay attention, stay safe. In reality, I never should have hitchhiked, it is very risky... it was popular back in the 'hippie' times, but one of my friends was killed doing it. Remember, many women get raped and killed by their lovers, men too, so pay attention to red flags and do all you can to protect yourself and your loved ones. Don't get into a truck or car to make money either, there are better ways to make money.... you are valuable! I also want to thank all the truckers that bring us things we need to live! Thank you very much for risking your lives in all kinds of weather, you have done so much good for people, you are valuable!

      No reason to get upset, what he’s saying is true. Long haul trucking is the perfect job for a serial killer. The distances involved make it very difficult to spot a serial killer because his crimes can be several states apart. With the advent of VICAP, it makes it easier to connect cases from different parts of the country, but it prior years it was difficult to connect cases in the next county or two over, much less different states entirely. What once was a golden opportunity for serial killers, is now having the loophole closed via technology. Doesn’t change the fact that an over the road trucker still has the opportunity to commit crimes in multiple jurisdictions, making them harder to connect. Same goes true for any occupation that involves a lot of cross country travel. Pilots, salesmen, entertainers, any profession that keeps a person on the road.

    I’ve met some psychopathic truckers in my day. I had one speed up in a passing lane and cut me off as a car was coming the other way. Had I not slammed the breaks on he would have killed me. Could see him laughing in the process. Had another one that was a roommate years ago and he did meth and popped pain pills. Wasn’t until he passed out on the road, smashed his truck into a tree and passed out that his license got revoked. Yes, similar experience. About to go through roadworks that reduced country road at bottom of a mountain to one lane. Noticed a truck coming down off the mountain at speed. Realised he wasn't going to stop and put on my indicator to let the drivers behind me know what was happening and pulled quickly into the blocked off lane. A few traffic cones may have been harmed in the process...luckily the drivers behind me did the same and we all got out of his way just in time as he barreled through at speed. His face was blank. A truck driver behind him going slowly looked confused and appalled. I was just so glad nobody got hurt I took off. I always wondered why he did that. Did his brakes fail? Was he trying to kill us?

I drive long haul and honestly the Truckers Against Trafficking campaign, tighter security at truckstops, 24 hr on board video surveillance on semi trucks and a general shift away from prostitution, there aren't any working girls anymore. I experienced one trucker, and a group of truckers try to run me/my pick-up off the road for sport on a couple of my cross-country trips. It was terrifying. When I tried to speed up or slow down, they would let one of the others know and I'd get ganged up on again.
    I've often wondered if people were thought to have fallen asleep at the wheel and died, but is was a situation like mine - homicidal truckers.
    I strategically timed my stops/fill-ups for daytime only, due to all the stories I'd heard growing up.
    On another note, I had one protect me for many miles late at night: keeping me awake by honking right next to me whenever I seemed sleepy.

      Actually it isn't. This is another example of sketchy news reporting designed to create cognitive distortions like the one you just expressed. He said 850 murders over the course of several decades which implies more than one decade. So let's say his timeframe is 20 years or two decades which would be a bare minimum given his use of the phrase "over several decades." There's an average of 22,000 homicides in the US each year so over two decades there's been roughly 440,000 homicides of which based on my assumption of two decades there's been 850 homicides caused by long haul truckers. That calculates to 0.19% of all homicides over the course of 20 years were caused by long haul truckers. In other words, 99.81% of all homicides were not caused by long haul truckers. So they're statistically not even responsible for 1% of all homicides. This is another news story that has gynocentric overtones designed to make men look bad. But the data doesn't lie; the data never lies....

      Sadly I'm pretty sure there's more than 850 murders along the area of the highways and then you would have to include missing people who haven't been found yet😮 No one but you thought he was lumping all truckers into this there's hundreds of thousands of Truckers. Most people just start off with it's a given that that is the case. His book was just referencing the ones that they have been able to connect to them more specifically. He also mentioned that rhetoric can lead to violence that is why it's important to not be lying and inciting people fire and brimstone can lead to problems just for the sake of Chaos😅

    • @bizygirl1
      @bizygirl1 21 день тому +1

      It’s often telling when one jumps to such defensive conclusions. 850 is a very low number. There are thousands actually. Just the MMIW numbers alone are over 1000 and grow each year when you include Canada if you include all the years going back to when the counts began. It’s not like anyone is being picked on for no reason. Some of the missing were last seen at truck stops or getting into a truck. And no one has pointed to ALL truck drivers or the entire industry. But if you’re unwilling to look around you and keep an eye out for your fellow truckers safety because you can’t handle the thought that there may be some evil amongst you, that’s kind of cowardly ain’t it?

      @@sibhuskyguy attack your character? Give me a break. I corrected your misunderstanding. The data of the 850 murders in the book have ties to trucking and some have been solved and have lead to convictions of truck drivers already. I could give a crap about your opinion. The data the FBI has has already lead to some convictions of truck drivers that were committing serial murders. They’re trying to solve more. You can choose to remain blind and miss the point of the video but nobody’s picking on you.

    I did Long haul trucking for a comparatively short period of time back in the 1970s an early 1980s. I never met anybody I suspected of being a serial killer. I most certainly did meet people of whom I was very suspicious. I can tell you this right now. If I get that feeling about a person it's always every time true. Might not be provable in a tangible way but many times it was proved in a tangible way. I was right every time.

    I was in a Sams Club prking lot trying to get my car to start around 2AM when i stumbled across a truck driver. I asked him for help, and he eventually helped me to start my car. We had a 30 minute conversation. At one point in the conversation, he got fidgety, his eyes got wide, and he flashed his gun at me. I did the best i could to calm him down unnoticably. He also talked about his mental struggles, and how he was involved with drugs and gangs until he remembered his roots and how he got out of that life getting his CDL. I'm not sure if i was talking face-to-face with a killer that day, but there's a pretty good chance that i was.
