I always appreciate the insight that you offer. When all else fails, build a refrigerator sized box, build the biggest ports you dare to build, and enjoy the show :). Keep up the great content.
"If you don't have a router, sandpaper will get the job done." Yes, but the amount of money you'll spend on sandpaper will get you an inexpensive but functional trim router. ;)
Bookmarked your port calculator and will play around with it later! First time I've seen a calculator compensate for some of the quirks you mentioned!
I can't wait to check out this calculator. It seems like every time you post a video my mind is contemplating the exact same subject.
My setup is a dual subwoofer/dual vent and they take up a ton of displacement relative to a single port, but they have the useless advantage of playing stereo! And that's why I got rid of my dual Pyramid amplifiers and purchased a mono bloc! 😆
👍
As always Justin, great video quality information!
Thanks for watching.
@diyaudioguy do you design custom boxes with sheet cutout so the customer can build the box?
Sometimes, yes.
You should check out and possibly do a video on the recoil MST-1.. it's an installation tool seems very similar to a smd dd1, but with extra stuff!!! It's maybe half the price of a smd also advertised as an all in 1 tool so like 2 or 3 smd tools??! It would be awesome to know if it were any good or just get more info so that people can buy without having to break their bank on 1 smd tool?!! Thanks for the videos and you've been a ton of help with getting back into the sound system game!!
Keep in mind the more aero ports you use efficiency goes down.
That's a new one on me. I've never heard that.
@DIYAudioGuy really? Aeros are generally more efficient than slots but once you start using multiple ports that advantage dissipates substantially.
@@DibeezyTheGifted Are you referring to a standard pipe port as an Aero port? Or are you referring to a pipe port with flares on it as an Aero port?
@@DIYAudioGuy they are correct. It has to do with the ratio of vent area to wall drag. Four 3" round ports may have the same area as a single 6" round port but they have twice the perimeter length, so double the drag.
Same thing happens with a square vent. A 4x4 square vent has an area of 16in2 and a perimeter length of 16inches. A 16x1 rectangular vent also has an area of 16in2 but now has a perimeter length of 34inches. That's a lot more drag.
And there is an actual theoretical maximum vent area for a given driver. In general, for a given driver in a set enclosure (net) volume and tuning, the larger the vent area the quicker it unloads below tuning. Keeping areas reasonable helps the driver from going all pancake right below tuning.
@BaddDukk I'm referring to an actual aero port. PVC or abs ports with no flares are horrible lol
In my experience 3D printed double horn style ports are way better that straight tubes, they sound very different, and you can tune them waaay lower without extremely long tubes
Where did this round port chart come from? I thought when figuring out the port area of a round port it’s the diameter x pi? 3” x 3.14 = 9.42. But you have it listed as 7.07
The area of a circle is pi r squared.
@ lol
I’m still confused. Bear with me because I am slow.
When I used your calculator, the port area for 3 inch port comes out to 7.07 same as your chart shows. Which one I do 3 inches times pi it gives me a different number regardless if you do the radius squared however you choose to do the problem. The answer is still the same.
But keep getting 9.42 for a 3” port area
But when I use your port calculator, it comes out to seven point something.
So those two don’t match up my calculations versus your calculations
What confuses me is that when I do a 4 inch port times pi I get the same answer as you listed on your chart. Although I’m doing the exact same math equation, the numbers aren’t matching.
@@julesbruchez-theartofgrapp9646That's because half the radius is two and two squared is four. A 4-in circle is the one special case where your method works.
@ lol
😂 well I believe you I looked at some more charts and sure enough your numbers match up
@@julesbruchez-theartofgrapp9646 That's awesome! I do this because I want to help people. Hopefully I've helped you today.
