Back in 1966, in my radio DJ days, the publicity guy at the local music hall invited me to be part of a welcoming committee at the airport when the Smothers Brothers came to Salt Lake City. After all the hand shaking and greeting, I was heading out the door when I heard "Hey Jim, can you give the Brothers a lift to their hotel?" I had a big Pontiac with plenty of room so I said "sure". So I'm driving back to downtown with Tom & Dick and their road manager in my back seat. They were having conversations about all kinds of topics and you can guess I never said a word. I dropped them off at the hotel and went on my way. I did see their show the next night and it was most entertaining. They certainly deserved all the fame that came their way.
when I was young I remember watching them. I always laughed. Sometimes the jokes werent that great but the delivery was hilarious. Tom especially. He was such a goofball you couldn't help but crack up
Have always loved the Smothers Brothers since I was a kid. They were the best. Nobody could top them. Tremendously talented and great comedians. Thank you for posting this.
These guys were such innovators, and godparents of such contemporary faux tense situational skits as Zach Galifanakis' "Between Two Ferns" and I'm sure many others. They are/were so good...as a young kid, watching their act on the tube, they always had me convinced there was actually some rivalry grudge between them. Legends.
Fantastic. Didn't get them back when I was a teen. I met Tommy in the late 80's. I was picking up my wife and her family at O'Hare in Chicago, and Tommy was the first person off of the jet.
These guys are GREAT! they were just funny and could be political and satirical and funny and say controversial things without being super crude because they have Talent and are smart just great at what they do
Not crude, no, but their TV show was live and when guest Pete Seeger was singing an anti-VietNam war song, CBS cut 'em off. Dead air. I'm 70, I remember the show and this event. Or, non-event. 😄
This day and age would applaud their desires to keep the issues of the day prevalent and before the public minds and let us deciding what, as the public, on the events of the day are worth our perspective. I as a youth only loved them for their comic routines and still do. I even became a loyal member of their fan club. Go Smother Brothers!
These guys were incredible in their ability to stay in character. How Dick could avoid cracking up is beyond me. The irony is that their comedic shtick enabled them to extend the longevity of their “folk” singing long after it had kind-of gone out of style as a mainstream pop music idiom.
I watched a documentary last night by Tom, where he explained he had Dyslexia and had no diagnosis for it but was fearful of being shown as dumb because of his difficulty reading scripts.
Loved the old 'rabbit ears' ghosted picture quality that I used to have to endure back in 'the day'..... No matter what the video quality, the Smothers Brothers always came through to make me laugh out loud! Thanks for posting this!
Tim Smothers Are Dick and Tom, really your cousins?!? If so, you must have some amazing stories!....If not, I certainly don’t blame you for claiming them, anyway... I sure would if I had that name!
I wonder how far back in time it was that people first started making their hand into a fist and giving someone a light punch on the upper arm? And, where did it start? It's 1981 in this video, and I see that Tommy gave Dick the little "punch" that I'm talking about.... STILL done today (2019), so I wonder where and when it started?
I still can't figure out why my not very sophisticated parents watched these guys, I loved them as a child but it's so out of character for my parents, who were more Archie Bunker!
They were funny!! Tommy died with $10 million. Dickie died after bankruptcy! Not what anyone expected. Dickie was a drag racers and race car guy on the side. Tommy wasn't. A great team though.
Poklando Thanks, I was almost heartbroken over that misinformation... I kinda knew they were still around, and had thought I missed it on the news. I guess Some people just got nothing better to do.
There! Right there, is what entertainment is. I miss it dearly.
does not get better. national treasures
RIP Tommy. Big time laughs from you over the years. 🤣
saw them live just before they retired. Good as ever.
The Smothers Brothers were great folk singers and Tommy Smothers is so damn funny.
That last little chirp chirp killed me, tommy you fucking legend
My favorite..miss them and the joy and laughter

Pure Genius. They did the same routine for fifty years and it was funny every time.
Loved the " Mom always liked you best" routine. It was the funniest. 😉
Hello, how are you,i hope your enjoying this great music?
The Smother Brothers wouldn't of beeen the same without Tommy's antics
Nothing would be the same if something were different.
This has always been my favorite!
1981 and I still think of this as a newer episode
What a beautiful voice Tom has/had. What a funny character Dick developed, so unlike him in real life, but so convincingly played
I forgot how beyond great they were!! I love them!!!♥️🇺🇸
brilliant. not only are they very fine musicians but top notch comedians. doesn't get much better than this.
when I was young I remember watching them. I always laughed. Sometimes the jokes werent that great but the delivery was hilarious. Tom especially. He was such a goofball you couldn't help but crack up
I miss Johnny Carson.
I had forgotten how talented they were! Thanks for the upload!
Their conversations are much like talking to one of my 7th grade students! Hurrah, middle school!
As a retired previous teacher and husband of a special education teacher, please let me say thank you and God bless you.
Still funnier than most of the stuff today!
Bring them back! Their comedy lives on!
Their fuckin old as dust and retired.
Have always loved the Smothers Brothers since I was a kid. They were the best. Nobody could top them. Tremendously talented and great comedians. Thank you for posting this.
You're right Troy Ann Boyle, Thanks for Posting. I loved them also. Tommy's antics made them great !
I really loved their song "Hiawatha" when I was a lad - my dad had an album of theirs with that song on it 🙂
All I remember of these two is the summer they had Glen Cambell fill in as their summer re-placement.
Mom always liked you best,

Ahhh. REAL entertainment. Thanks.

I don't think MAGAites would appreciate them very much.
Tom & Dick and Pat Paulson and Glen Campbell and John Hartford and Leigh French ... Those were the Good Ol’ Days Of Television Comedy!!!
They're so good.
They broadened my sense of humor!
SO very funny! I never missed their show! There will never be the quality of these stars ever agin!
YA GOT THAT RIGHT !!!!
Sooooo true...
Dont think dickie ever got the credit he deserved, the harmony was so good, you forget how good dickie voice was when ge has solo parts...
Funny and clean.
Haven't seen or heard that one. That was one of their better ones. I mean it was no John Henry or Venezuelan Rain Dance, but it was still pretty good.
Tommy does a great George Bush --- 20yrs early !!
Bring back the Smothers Brothers Show. Lots of laughs for TV fun.
Now that's comedy. Brilliant!

the best
Hello, how are you,i hope your enjoying this great music?
Thank you thank you!! i grew up with their albums! This is great memory. I need to get into some boxes.
Humor you can send to grandma.
I don’t think you would want to send grandma this one.
Class of one !!
This reminds me of the Brother’s Brothers In Living Color skit with Damon and Keenen Wayans. Lol
Ya think?
I still have 3 or 4 of there records
OMG I laugh so hard at Tommy, I've got tears in my eyes. He was such a goof
their
They could go for hours.
Loved the old 'rabbit ears' ghosted picture quality that I used to have to endure back in 'the day'.....

Fucking classic!
I sure love my cousins. Still funny to this day. Falalala.

@@havensabaini7334 Possibly he didn't recall that he isn't their cousin.
@@kenhoughton2594 I heard their cousin was killed in a plane crash
I just read a comment on a different video that Tom has dementia. Is that true? I hope they are both doing well and you and the rest of the family.
They’re NOT YOUR COUSINS YOU ASS WIPE!! I know their cousins & YOU’RE NOT ONE!!
I saw this when it first aired!!!
Not only were they funny, but they were good musicians
I've always wondered if they were on with Carson. Would have been nice to see the interview, but thanks for posting.
Yes. Tommy imitated Johnny. Excellent imitation. Spot on. Look it up
genius

I think it was Nightengales that used to poop on my car!
"It's going to be on NBC some future date..." yeah, not CBS.
Saw them at Ontario Place.
For those who don’t get the mini series crack. Their show was yanked off the air by the network mid season
Tommy was always in a world all his own. Part of that aspect of his personality was because he couldn't remember all his lines.
This is a great bit! Did you catch the interview? I would love to see it!
silly, fun, with a hint of naughty.
Stimy and his woman
"Eats pumas" LOL
Restoring old vehicles
Local Grads from San Jose State
You need better video quality to see Tommy's facial expressions.
They always make me pee
🤭🤫🤐😉🤣
Where’s Radio when blurry makes you... urrrrp? 🤣
Hilarious!
wow, recorded in sub-potato cam
4:21 Tommy adds "eats Puma's" allusion to The Cabbage Song ua-cam.com/video/Vn-eOvqWO7I/v-deo.html LOVE IT!
Pee pee! Just kidding! I love the Smothers Brothers and would never pee on them! :-)
ahahahahahahaahahhaah
there will NEVER be their equal again
I am Mediocre Fred. I'd love to see that done with them on stage.
I hope not the last verse!
I wasn't making fun of you. I was ridiculing you
whish they had recordings wo humor too
Check out their "Mom Always Liked You Best" album. There are several songs on it w/o humor.
Now we got myers and other fools like coalburt the snarky clown. Lucky us, eh?
I still can't figure out why my not very sophisticated parents watched these guys, I loved them as a child but it's so out of character for my parents, who were more Archie Bunker!

Ineluctable Smith interesting. Thanks
Poklando
Thanks, I was almost heartbroken over that misinformation...

I guess Some people just got nothing better to do.
when exactly did they die weinstein ahahahah
They’re still alive
Yeah the original smothers brothers sadly died a few years back.
One of them wasnt a pilot
They had a few great moments, but boy, they had a lot of duds.
