I'm 50 and yes, Johnny is the King of late night. I had no idea basically about Johnny when I was a kid. And kids have no interest in late night talk shows. I started watching Letterman in mid 1990s. But in later years I've been watching everything Johnny Carson that I found on UA-cam and he is above everything and everybody. I think I started watching Johnny Carson for real in around 2015-2016. If my memory serves me well.
It’s great to look at this example of Rich, Little and his absolute prime just completely killing it. I was a Carson addict by age 10 which was 1975. I’ve stayed up too late ever since I think I’m a musician. Anyway, it helps me remember how formative Rich Little was To my sense of humor to this day. When he was on, there was nobody better at what he did. Not even close.
Oh Gawd when Rich does Truman Capote and Liberace it totally kills me, and I darn near die laughing to death, watching and hearing him. Oh and I can't forget Richard Nixon! Just too hilarious !!!!!
RIch was 35 then. I remember seeing him as a supporting actor on the 1966 one-season run of "Love On a Rooftop" (1966-67) with the late Peter Deuel (later Duel) and the wonderful, late Judy Carne. [*] Just a year before her big break on Laugh-In. A marvelous tv season, that the previous mid-season (Jan. 12, '66) started with the "Batman" craze that lasted a whole 2 years (Mar. 14, '68). Good Heavens! 50 years ago... my girlfriend (at the time) with me and her mother would all sit and watch the Carson show every night (10 PM here in South Texas) if we were home (and not at a theater rehearsal). Astounding to think it was that long ago. Happy to see Rich is still with us.
Rich little inspired me to do impressions as a kid, I was able to imitate all of my uncle,s and had our family laughing most of the time. Rich is a master.
During one of Johnny’s monologues in the 70’s, he was bombing so bad that, as a joke, Ed pulled Johnny off stage with a big metal hook! It was hysterical! Can yall PLEASE post that?!? I can’t find it anywhere.
Yeah I heard about that later. Johnny didn't like it. No need to get in a snit about him doing an impression of you Johnny, just go with the flow and laugh along, cuz there's no need to get uptight about it.
Oh NO !! I really wouldn't say that Johnny is particularly Tolerant about someone or anyone doing impressions of him !!!! Especially since he had "Everyone's beloved Rich Little, BANNED FROM THE SHOW!" Johnny would be better off, to just appreciate the compliment and laugh along, because it truly is a compliment, when they think enough of you to notice and recognize you to want to copy you!! At least have enough tolerance to enjoy it, and laugh along with everybody, and be a good sport about it !!! Don't take yourself so seriously, and be that anally uptight about it !!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
For those of you who have visited Boston, one of the hop-on hop-off trolley tours has pre-recorded celebrity impressions from Rich Little telling passengers to keep their arms and legs inside the trolley at all times. One of my favorites was his Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Does anyone remember seeing the Episode of that cute tiny little animal, that finally got on top of his head, and PEED? OH MAN WAS THAT HILARIOUS!! Johnny's reaction was PRICELESS, and the look on his face killed me!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
After a few years Rich was banned from the show, he was never given an explanation, but he thinks Johnny was annoyed at his imitation of him. Little is still performing today at 85.
Fred DeCordova said the reason they stopped inviting Rich was that he didn't have a lot of new impressions to keep the audience engaged. As time went by, doing Nixon, John Wayne, etc. just got too dated.
14.10 finally it shows Johnny Carson getting pissed off with rich impersonating him. I have watched this clip lots and you can tell Johnny is pissed and finding it annoying. Shame because I love Rich little and the old shows are so great. even today Rich makes me laugh. But I think that clip finally shows why Johnny didn’t want him on the show afterwards. I think you can see it on Johnnys face in other shows here and there he just hated Rich doing his voice. I agree Rich little’s best impression is Johnny Carson. I love the golf impression he did on one show and this show the tennis impression was hilarious.
Rich nice powder blue suit with the polka dot shirt and white socks and shoes...omg lol @ Hollywood fashion in the 70s (what no ascot scarf?). That said, I can just watch his videos all day long
Please DON'T INTERRUPT RICH WHEN HE'S STARTING TO TALK ABOUT DEAN MARTIN. Dean is my Dream Boat, with his Dreamy, Soothing, Fabulous, & Sexy Voice! I just Love it, and so do my pets, they Love Dean's Dreamy Voice too!!!!😊❤😊❤😊❤😊❤❤❤😊😊❤❤😊😊
His Jack Benny and Capote where so very funny. Johnny was and still is the best late night talk show host ever. Letterman, Jack Parr and Conan where good, but not on Johnny's level. Thank Goodness for all of the old clips you can still watch.
The story was, however, that Johnny banned Rich from the Tonight Show because he took offense at Rich's impersonation of him. One of the comments below also mentions this.
Johnny didn't like Rich's impression of him. He indicated that to Martin Short when he was doing impressions on the show. I think Johnny was too self-conscious.
At least Carson used to like Little but then Little wasn't invited back. Truth of the matter is Carson was not a nice guy, reminds me of Sinatra, thought he was better than everyone else, treated them like crap.
Rich Little's spot-on impersonation allegedly got under the thin skin of Carson, and he was permanently banned from appearing on the Tonight Show without notice or reason after his August 1982 appearance. Little claims in his biography that he was banned because Carson was offended by his impression.
Funny show, but it was Carson who turned the talk show into all-Hollywood. Allen and Parr had some great authors and scientists, even Muhammad Ali and Fidel Castro. Carson dropped all that.
Oh, and Johnny Carson too! Funny as all heck!
Johnny Carson is still the best night show host in my lifetime, and I'm now an old fart of 65.
I'm 50 and yes, Johnny is the King of late night. I had no idea basically about Johnny when I was a kid. And kids have no interest in late night talk shows. I started watching Letterman in mid 1990s.

72. He was the best & had great guests.
Back when we had real entertainment.
I am an old fart with you, I am 65 too.
65 here too. 😊
66 here and the best late night host ever. Then and now.
His impression of Johnny Carson will always be my top favorite of all impressions.
Second to Tommy Struthers
@@shawnmiller4781 Tommy Smothers. Agreed.

We love you Johnny! "Those damned cigarettes!"
His level of impressions and how accurate they are is next level. The dudes still a legend.
Oh Gawd when Rich does Truman Capote and Liberace it totally kills me, and I darn near die laughing to death, watching and hearing him. Oh and I can't forget Richard Nixon! Just too hilarious !!!!!
THE BEST LATE NIGHT TALK SHOW.NO ONE COMES CLOSE TO CARSON.
I can't think of a better impressionist.
I got to see Rich Little in Orem, Utah at an outdoor amphitheater almost 3 decades ago. He was brilliant!
50 years ago and it's still great!

I always loved seeing Rich Little do impressions, because he's so talented and funny
He really was an amazing performer. Little nailed every voice so well. His Reagan was so good,
And his "I AM NOT A CROOK",RICHARD NIXON TOO. THAT IS ALWAYS HILARIOUS !!!!!
No contest. Johnny is still the all-time best late night host and always will be.
In case anyone is reading: Rich Little is alive and well at 85 years old and counting...
Hello from 🇪🇺🇷🇴!Thanks for the information!
I was, thank you
Rich makes regular appearances on the Huckabee show
A great Canadian! ❤️💯
And he has much darker hair today than he did 50 years ago.

Always loved whenever Rich was on.
I agree, he was best late. Night host ever🙂
Without a doubt his John Diefenbaker is the best most accurate imitation he still does today. Scary, so real.
Little, the ultimate chameleon, best impressionist ever.
I played for him once in KC. Funny guy and a really nice guy.
I could watch Rich for hours, he is brilliant.
Absolute legends ❤
Thanks for letting me know! Love that guy !
Wow, his Truman Capote is uncanny

Rich Little is a class act!
He was Brilliant and amazing to watch and Listen to
Wow, even though Johnny is forcing himself to laugh and play along, you can tell he does NOT like to be made fun of!
But??....it was OK for Johnny to imitate others??...very weird

I LOVED SEEING THAT ONE, BECAUSE IT WAS SO FUNNY. AND I. DO REMEMBER IT WELL !
You can tell Carson liked Little, recognized his talent, , they're both somewhat alike,
What a great guy 😊
Johhny was the best late night host.
I’m a firm believer that late night television died when Johnny retired.
Most humble man in show business
Johnny Carson is the most tolerate in finding some fun in Rich Little's constant impressions of him. 😁 Johnny is the best!!
Banned by Johnny..Tolerate? OK

Rich Little, Buddy Rich….what fabulous guests he had on the show, back then…
Telegrams…long before emails and texts….😊
You're right...excwpt Buddy Rich was an A class Jerk.
Gosh, with that line up and Johnny’s monologue it’s no wonder why he was rated the best thing going at the time.
It's very sad that so many that were imitated by Rich Little are gone now.🤔😒🤥😪
That was awesome!
After a few years Rich was banned from the show, he was never given an explanation, but he thinks Johnny was annoyed at his imitation of him. Little is still performing today at 85.
A lot of ppl found themselves on Carson's banned list, wasn't hard to do, as it's obvious he was quite the delicate Snowflake.
@@jazzfan67is that on youtube?
@Gambit22003 At 14:28 you can just see the beginning of the end of Rich's involvement with the show and the moment Johnny's good humor cracks.
Fred DeCordova said the reason they stopped inviting Rich was that he didn't have a lot of new impressions to keep the audience engaged. As time went by, doing Nixon, John Wayne, etc. just got too dated.
I have a hard time believing because Johnny, actually, seem to genuinely love all of Rich 's impersonations
100 % wonderful television.

Yes, he was recently on Governor Huckabee’s show on TBN Trinity Broadcasting Network!
Comedy Gold still. Late nite 'comedy' ended somewhere in the early 2000's. Little one of the quickest wits of his era.
Johnny 3:14 : "I don't do that, do i"
proceeds to do that* :D
My Favorite
Surprised there wasn't a commercial. Also, Rich reminds me of Dana Carvey for some reason.
Dana Carvey?
Absolutely love johnny carson i was wondering whos the youngest carson fan im 31

Pretty cool
I simply ask for an episode or some monologues with the original intro titles included :(
And they never do it :(

@@johnnycarson I know about this one :) and all the others
His best impression is doing Reagan.
I heard one of the few rules comedians had when appearing on the Tonight Show was to not do an impression of Johnny.

So was this the appearance which supposedly angered Johnny so much that he never asked Rich to do the show again?

I appreciate the trumpet, but always think they are a bit irritating [Sorry Doc].

The potato chip lady clip is a classic
I read that this "interview" with Rich Little was actually too much for Johnny to stomach, & that Little was never invited back on the show again(?).
