Trevor horn - up there with phil spector, brian wilson and gamble & huff as one of the all time great producers. The 'wall of sound' he created on tracks like this (and others in the 80s) was phenomenal

It takes me back to Blackpool pleasure Beach in the early 80s. On the waltzers and in the arcades. I can still hear the screams of the people on the rides in my head when I listen to this.
Theresa is heart achingly beautiful in this performance, love the moody shots of her on the background video screen. How on earth did the song not even break the top 15 in the summer of 82? Mind boggling…
Trevor Horn in 1981... no Auto Tune, just a Fairlight, a pitchable Studer Multitrack Machine, Lexicon Reverb, Eventide and an SSL Console.... that's what is music production is all about... a genius !!!
Haha, you're right, no auto tune. Just the most expensive and capable sampler/sequencer available at the time, a pro studio level tape machine, the highest of high end reverb and harmoniser of the time and a super expensive desk made in Oxford. Not to take anything away from Horn but you make it sound like Horn was using really primitive equipment. 😀

Yet another superb production from Trevor Horn. He was/still is the British Phil Spector, an instantly recognisable sound, full of trademark hooks. Yup. Compensated for her very very thin and limited vocals.
