One of the reasons I want to get back into leather work is because I have knives that need sheaths. You make it look easy, I'm sure it would take me a week to make the same sheath.
That’s a good question. I have varied my technique over time. On one of that thickness today I would use my stitching chisels as deep as they would go and finish with an awl. Make sure to keep your chisels and awl angled the same. That will help you match the stitching line on the front to the back. That and practice. You can create the stitch line on scraps to practice.
If you have to yank it so hard to get it out of the sheath when its on your belt its gonna take two hands to get it out and then you have to reposition your knife hand to get a good grip on the handle. Not very practical as I see it.
It was great to see another one of your projects from start to finish. Very well explained.
Thanks Randy! Kind of a long one. Hopefully it helps a beginner Leather Worker.
True craftsmanship, great detail for beginners to follow.
Thanks!!! I try to keep it simple when I can.
I am a beginner. Thank you for detailed video. Welldone!

It might take some time on the first one but I bet you pick it up. Part of it would depend on how detailed you might get.
When cutting out a sheath is to use my small bandsaw, really gets it done fast, less miss cuts also...
That is a great idea.
What is your trick to get your stitch line on the back side,to look as even as the front of the sheath?

Congratulations on a nice job
I wanted to ask you how many millimeters thick is the skin?
Thanks! That hide was 2.6 mm. I have a few other knife sheath videos. Those were made from 5 mm thick leather. I appreciate you watching my videos.

Thanks for your input.
Will loosen up with use
