Now we need Will to find a way to make a production run of head knives. For those that are interested the main tanning styles are vegetable, chrome, and oil tanned. Typically you want veg tanned for stuff like holsters where the leather is touching metal because the other styles are more prone to rusting the metal.
She is a badass. I love it when people take passion in there craft. And know all the Ins and outs of the perfect way to make something most functional.
If she doesn't have a UA-cam channel she should. She's a lovely woman who is not only an artisan in her chosen field but she has an excellent delivery. That includes not just the information but also pacing and the ability to explain what she's doing as she works, at least in part. It's hard to find true craftsmanship, finding someone who can explain the what, why and how in an easy to follow manner isn't any easier.
Being an avid outdoorsman since the age of 3 yrs., [I was born in the Appalachians of PA], I have now devoted my time pursuing a hobby I learned back in my teen years, when I taught myself the art of leather braiding. I don't braid any longer, but I do build many types of leather goods such as knife and gun holsters, wallets and business card "wallets" and many other smaller items needing to be built of leather. I was fascinated by your use of veg. tanned beaver tail, a product which most tanneries do not even try to tan and market. I like to do inlay and overlay work using exotic skins such as python, Kangaroo, and ostrich to name a few, but I have not found any tannery, large or small, who is willing to veg. tan beaver tails, ... hides yes, but they laugh at me when I ask if they do beaver tails! They respond to me like I was nothing more than a senile old codger with nothing to do other than waste their time with frivolous ideas about little of interest. I was so glad to watch this video and see you pull out a couple of tanned beaver tails that it has renewed my quest to locate a beaver tail tannery one way or another. Your design and careful work on inlaying one edge of that beaver tail into the sheath was a very impressive move and showed the initiative to step "out of the box" and try something new. I hope to see more of your talents on UA-cam in the future and wish you the best of luck in finding new ways to embellish a product which has its roots eons ago and has been taken for granted for too many years now.
Will I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Francesca, you do AWESOME work, you should be very proud. I hope we see more knife/sheath colab videos in the future, thanks for sharing. Also another commenter mentioned an under arm 44 cowboy rig, that would be cool.
In a world of industrial manufacturing, hand crafted items are a thing of beauty. I hope more people put in the time and effort to continue to learn these skills.
Will brings out the best of everyone around him. He showcases so many extremely skilled craftsmen, and somehow makes them shine and comfortable in front of the camera. That’s such an underrated skill. Thanks Will and of course Cameraman for always showcasing all your friends’ incredible artistry and skills!!! Francesca here is AMAZING skilled artists goddamn what a beautiful sheath! Arg what’s the cameraman’s name?! Micah? Jeremiah? I forgot arg! He’s such an integral part of the team! I believe he’s the same videographer that Alec uses when he’s in Montana right?
I love leather work, the craftsmanship is stunning. The ease at which she works, and problem solves it, shows just how passionate she is. Stunning work!
Firstly Will, thanks for hosting another master craftsperson. Francesca is awesome! It was interesting to see that the two of you seem to share only one common tool... the belt sander. BTW, I think I heard the words "beaver tail" more in the video than ever before in my life combined. :)
Holy. Shit. I do leatherwork as a hobby/small business, and her craftmanship is incredible. The French skiver is gorgeous, that full strap edge bevel... Chills. This probably is going to sound strange, but the full strap perfect bevel is such a satisfying feeling 😂. The heirloom fit? Amazing. And beaver tail and Kangaroo? So cool.
Great change of pace and a beautiful video. Will, this could have been a two part series. I am impressed with her hand punching through 36 Oz of leather and then hand stitching it. That's beast mode!
People that are knowledgeable about there craft are so badass. I am very tempted by some of their wallets despite them being quite pricey, It is obvious the craftsmanship is worth it
Lining the sheath was very nice. Stellar work! ^^ Edit: Will, you should add making some historical belt connectors on the "To do" list for these type of knives!
I've never seen beaver tail used in leather working- pretty cool. Very nice sheath- makes me wonder how many people are carrying around concealed knives under their jackets.
Wow! Such beautiful leather work. She's a great explainer/teacher. I inherited some leather working tools from my father outlaw. I'll never be that good though,
All I can say is, Francesca does awesome work. As much as Will knows how to make knives, I'd suggest she's that much ahead working leather :o) Well done! @Tetonleathercompany
Looking good, with one exception and those are unbeveled edges. Use skiving knife to thin the sheet near stitch line. It will look much better (not so boxy) also it alows to insert extra layer to protect the thread.
Awesome. I hope to see more collaborations with Teton Leather Company. Be sure to check out their video about the sheath design process for Will's knife!
That sheath looks amazing!! I am wondering if there were any other animal products that could have been used making it, but I think fur wouldn't have looked right. I really want to get my hands on some kangaroo hide but I have no idea where you'd go for bever tail....... to be honest I had never considered it before, so thanks for that 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Man will you are really such a nice friendly dude, I bet it was a real fun time for her. And also you letting this. Young guy make that San mai dagger in your place. You are truly a good man. May Jesus be with you at all times and one day buy you a Lamborghini made out of genuine japanese katanas!
Never really thought about the process for making sheathes ( custom or otherwise ). That thing came out amazing looking though! Do they make sheathes for all the blades you make?
Is the kangaroo leather tougher than cowhide? What benefits will it give for that style of knife? Do you have the ability to do sharkskin leather? I like the knife and the sheath! They are both quality and American through and through!!
I've made a lot of knife sheaths, I even have tutorials here on youtube, and I've never seen anything like this! Note that I made BEGINNER knife sheath videos. This is way out of My league but it kind of makes Me want to buy some kangaroo an' beaver tail and have at it! Sorry Will, but this your best video in My opinion.
If you get a chance, try making something out of hippo leather. Really course surface texture, incredibly abrasion resistant. It makes a very interesting knife sheath.
She should have her own youtube channel...this is interesting and love how she explains every single thing...

I was only 2/3 through the video when I commented, I'll be looking at their channel next.
She is really good at what she does. Maker sure you allow her to make all your sheaths - beautiful work.
That sheath is bad ass. I carry fixed blade everyday, a well made sheath is every bit as important as the blade you carry 100%
That 'Chopper' looks like a big beautiful brute; and that 'beaver tail' on the sheath is pure elegance!!!, a match made in heaven....

More Francesca. I've spoke with dozens of leather workers and although very talented few are personable and even fewer are good teachers.
Beautiful work, ma’am! I love it!
I also noticed on the chalk board behind you, the ‘Soli Deo Gloria’ - amen to that!
Holy cow this is a beautiful piece of form and function! Both very skilled craftsman
The sheath isn't bad either!
I really don't have much of an interest in leatherworking, but it's always just awesome watching someone who knows their craft work! Awesome vid!
Awesome build on the sheath.
As a blacksmith I always wanted to do more leather work. Very nice.
Thanks from Chile. Jim

Can’t wait to see this in the flesh. Beautiful craftsmanship. ❤👌🏼
She sure made a beautiful sheath.
Leather work? Another thing that's up my alley.
I love leather work, the craftsmanship is stunning. The ease at which she works, and problem solves it, shows just how passionate she is. Stunning work!
I love how easy she makes it look. You can tell she has a plan in her head and has enough experience to just free-hand everything.

I love watching a craftsman/craftswoman at work. People who are really good at their craft are fascinating
Would love to see a complimentary gun holster for a classic blue 4 or 5 inch SW .44 mag, as a chest rig.
Thanks, Will and the lady who made the sheath ( I couldn't make out your name). Very nice work and a great video! 👍👍👍
She is a pro, I hope she charges high prices, she should!!
Amazing. I’m working on building out my very first sheath this weekend. I’ve never worked with leather before.
Looks beautiful, thanks for recording the construction Will.
Sweetest sheath I've ever seen. No exaggeration.
I make leather wallets, I hadn't ever thought about working leather like this! Can't wait to try! Beautiful work!

Oh my goodness! Franceska has such grand...skills! Fantastic video Will thumbs up.
Great video, Will!! I don’t know what’s prettier: your knife, or her wild hair and rough hands. 😍

Thanks Francesca!
Amazing work 🥳😎👍 crocodile Dundee would love it 😍😎 and whoever is going to be using it 😊
Leatherworking looks so satisfying!
nice one, good link up!
Ya know, that rig might be strung up Dundee style (think "Notta knife"). Good one Hoss.
I Hope we get to see a video on the customer's reaction. This thing is a beauty!
Uhm, the customer is Will?
@@Seelenschmiede he mentions the blade is for a client a few times

She is talented and seems like a cool person to hang out with, and if you're going to watch a person's video you are hanging out with them.
Exactly
Great video.
The perfect finishing touch :)
Bad ass knife set, super smart chic knows her stuff.
Beautiful project.
Very nice. Ha Will when u doing that dagger looking blade on your blackboard in the back? That looks sweet.

Knife purse yeah I want one
will will you be going into jewllery further, or was that bench more for when you do detailed work on your knifes.
Looking good, with one exception and those are unbeveled edges. Use skiving knife to thin the sheet near stitch line. It will look much better (not so boxy) also it alows to insert extra layer to protect the thread.
Actually, the edges are lightly skived but it’s not a preference on such a large blade. 🤙🏼 just not something that’s included in the video.
Great content thanks for sharing
Applause. A joy to see.
Awesome. I hope to see more collaborations with Teton Leather Company. Be sure to check out their video about the sheath design process for Will's knife!

Beavers are one of a kind. Do them right the first time. You might not get a second chance.
If you get a chance, try making something out of hippo leather. Really course surface texture, incredibly abrasion resistant. It makes a very interesting knife sheath.
Will you need to make her a kiridashi knife for her leather work
