Just found your channel. 👍. I’ve completed making my first knife and will be gifting it to my Grandson. I’m going to use your video to help me make the sheath. Great upload, thank you. 👍👍👍
You made many nice tools. They are expensive, but It takes a long time to make any good tool. First I made a knife sheath with an awl and Olfa cutter and simile wax thread from Tandy shop. when I entered 20 years ago in Tandy shop and I hooked up doing the leather craft, mostly for my own use. I like the knife making and due to lack of working facilities could not do, but make knife handles sometimes. Now I do fine woodcrafts( small items) and make some money and keep busy myself. You have nice videos. Just watching one by one. People learn whole life from others experiences. UA-cam helps a lot and people don't need to special schools to learn craft works.
For me, THIS whole thing isn't what I signed up for LOL. I got into knifemaking because I REALLY enjoy metal working, the whole feel of steel and the processes involved in making it from a raw material into a piece of functional art. I don't have the same passion for leather, but it IS without ANY doubt part of the whole 'skillset' needed. No one wants a knife without a sheath (Except kitchen knives), so it's something that I'm going to HAVE to learn, and learn to love. Excellent vid, thank You!
I like that you show how to design the sheath for the knife, method, mesures. Yes there are different ways, always good to see how others makers do it.
I have been wanting to make my own knife sheaths for a long time since there aren't many left-handed options out there. Finally decided to take action. Found your video and immediately ordered some supplies. Great tutorial by the way. Thank you.
I heard moles and was thinking chemistry and was really confused at first before I realized he meant mils haha. Moles in chemistry for those who don’t know is the mass of substance containing the same number of fundamental units as there are atoms in exactly 12.000 g of 12C.
I just wanted to tell you that you are a fine craftsman. I know this is an older video but I just came across it. Great video and Thank you for the tips. John
This has me considering making an open pouch belt slot style sheath for my Leatherman Wave as well as fire starter, screwdriver extension, and inserts.
Best introduction I have ever seen in a complete film. So many details and so much knowledge in so few words. I love it! And great to see somebody showing and teaching others with so much care and love to his handcraft...Great job! Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge and experience
Thank you so much! I am going to go make something beautiful with your help and make money tooo! When we share abundance with one another everything gets better.
I have made several passable sheaths in the past but thanks to your video I have now made a very nice one to compliment the bushcraft knife I just made for my grandson. Excellent video.
All true mate. I first started making timber pens 15 years ago, as a hobby. Made a bullet pen out of a couple of used 7.62 shells for myself and a few mates from work wanted one. My wife suggested I should star selling them, which I did, as a bit of a laugh, but I thought it would never be a long term thing. At last count, I think weve made about 20 thousand of the. Still amazes me!
What firms the sheath around thr handle vs the blade? Is it just that snug of a fit that it naturally takes the shape or must you wet, mold it around the knife, and let dry to get that fit?
Thank you for this great video! Great explanation on the details many don’t mention, like distance from edge for sewing relative to thread size, distance over to account for leather thickness, etc... Hardly if ever mentioned in other videos and those are the types of details that are very helpful for someone like me who is just starting. Thank you also for sharing your knowledge and passing along your skill set to others, very inspirational to watch.

I have been making knives for a while now, but my sheaths are worse than crap. I have always struggled with getting a good paper template from the knife. I'll try this way of doing it now and see how it goes.
Oh my God, thanks for that tutorial. I'm preparing to do my first ever knife sheath. I bought a Patrick Henry Bowie knife; no sheath. So I will make one. My leather work kit consists of some needles, leather pricks, awl, and my first ever stitching pony. Wish me luck. LOL.

This is a great tutorial! I’ve been struggling with knife sheaths since I started leather working, and I can’t seem to get the patterns designed correctly. I can’t wait to try your process! Thank you and keep them coming!

Thank you for making this video I followed your instructions to make my first knife sheath and was happy with the results
I have watched a few videos on making sheaths but I followed his instructions and got the nicest sheath I have ever made. Fantastic.
btw, his accent makes it seem like he is saying "mulls" but he means "mil's" which is short for millimetre (mm)
Thanks for the clarification. I had guessed that's what he meant, but it's good to know for certain.
What accent is it? I can't quite place it
@@Studioscribble I'm pretty sure he is in South Africa? I think.

Amazing Video!!! One of the best leather knife sheath making videos in all of UA-cam!
A pleasure watching you work!
Thanks for such a clear and concise video. Now I have a good idea of how to proceed with a project of my own.
Nice knife and sheath btw.
I like the bees wax for edges, haven’t seen that trick before
