I still can’t get over what an awesome tutorial that was as is with all your tutorials. I wouldn’t want to take from your potential capability as a knife maker / leather worker / engineering capabilities ect. But you are such a great educator. Thanks for bringing us along. Did I mention great content creator on UA-cam.

Brother, I've been watching YT since it's inception. I've had a few YT channels and helped others with theirs. Your content is among the very best out there. Just incredible. Your method of teaching really speaks to me. Thank you! I'm at the point where I made your beginner knife, and the little forge and am about to HT my first knife. Thank you for all your guidance. It's making the process a lot fun!

That tool that was used to make the tooling border deeper is a tracing stylus when used for working on leather. I have seen Japanese Crimson pricking iron being recommended as a good set of irons. They can be used to mark the placement of stitching holes or to punch them all of the way through the leather because they are a hybrid of pricking iron and punching tool.

My question is do you make sheaths to sell? the one in your video is an exact match to what i need. I just don't have the time or the skill. I have so many other projects going on I can't start another one. But as clean and meticulous as your work is I would like one of your sheaths. If ou have a website I can check out. Thank you.

Brother I’m a new knife maker and I’ve had a lot of success making knives. The biggest problem I’ve had is finding a reliable person to make sheaths for me. This video lets me know I can do this myself. Great video. Thank you very much. I appreciate you.

Very good video, I'm possibly about the same stage with leatherworking in that initially I wanted to be able to make sheaths for my knives, I still picked up some good tips from your work! like your sheath a lot, I will try it for knife I have just finished, Have you tried ritza tiger thread for sewing, really nice, made in Germany I think, keep up the good work..

Awesome video, very informational and to the point! I actually followed this process over the last week to make 2 sheaths like this. One thing I ran into that I have a question on. I stored one of my 1080 knives in the sheath overnight and took it out the next morning and noticed blemishes on the bevel, edge, and spine. I'm assuming it was the beginning of rust, although it didn't have the orangish color you'd expect, I'm thinking it wasn't orange yet because I did the whole ferric chloride/stonewashing process on it. After reading some forums people are saying never to store knives in a leather sheath, only use them for transport, but what i experienced happened quickly overnight. I'm thinking it's possible I didn't let the inside fully dry out and that's what ended up doing it. Have you ran into this before, if so do you have any tips/suggestions? I think from now on I'm going to let the sheath sit for at least 24 hours in the sun to dry before putting my knife in it for any extended period of time.
Also just a side comment: amazing videos! I've been watching a lot of them as I've been starting knifemaking and these have been EXTREMELY helpful! I like how you cite your sources by pointing to things you've learned on other channels. I feel like you're gathering all the good core info thats out there, and putting them into these roughly 20 minute long videos that are easy to digest and rewatch when trying it out on my own. Keep em coming!

Thanks man! Glad you're enjoying the videos. I think you probably had some moisture in the sheath. I'd let them dry in the house for 24+ hours before storing the knife in them. I'd also oil the crap out of the blade if you plan to store in the sheath. I generally store separately.. and oil the blade very well.

Great job, James! Came out great!
Can you measure the (mm) thickness of the pin you use to put the hole in for the stitches, please?
I’ll then get my dad to turn up a few on his lathe. Looks like a great tip!
    Cheers buddy
