I really don't think Finkelstein is "threatened" by "Destiny," that's kind of laughable. A scholar with a lifetime of serious work and a worldwide reputation for being the leading expert on the Israel/ Palestine conflict has no reason to be "threatened" by a UA-cam personality whose ammunition is Wikipedia because he can't read books. The Vietnam analogy is telling...Morris makes the point that Americans killed a million Vietnamese to demonstrate the restraint of the IDF, yet the Vietnam War lasted twenty years, so that's about 50,000 people a year. The population of Vietnam during the Vietnam War was about twenty times that of present day Gaza, so the IDF is actually murdering Palestinians at a pace that outweighs the US war machine in Vietnam
The US never really had a manned presence in Vietnam to the point they were killing people until about 1965 when the invasion started. So you only can really count the 7 years of actual fighting.
So no, statistically speaking the IDF is not outpacing the US on Vietnamese casualties.

It was the second intifada and the suicide bombings. I think his views are repulsive but that’s what did it. It was a despicable and destructive tactic even though I understand it was largely in retaliation to massacres of Palestinian demonstrators. Their were multiple warnings from soldiers who witnessed Hamas training, to the plan they found that detailed everything they ultimately did on the 7th, to the multiple warnings from multiple countries intelligence agencies across a timeline leading towards the 7th to how long it took them to respond to the attacks despite Israel not being a very big territory to the videos of helicopters blowing up cars that were heading back to Gaza. Cars filled with Israeli hostages. There were so many burned vehicles. Begs the question how many people did they lose to the Hannibal Directive. The Israeli government also quickly buried the evidence (literally) before anyone could analyze the vehicles.
I’m not saying Hamas didn’t commit atrocities on the 7th but certainly didn’t to the extent to which Israel initially reported. They made up these perverted and sadistic stories to bolster hate to justify what they’ve ultimately being doing ever since… why aren’t we allowed to ask very pertinent questions about it?

I think Destiny is there to represent (arguably) this generation's understanding of the subject at hand. I would like to think that for UA-camrs who deal with the conflict, Destiny seems to be a fair liberal who isn't pro Palestine nor Israel. He seems to generally represent the average knowledgeable guy who isn't a PhD expert on anything related to the matter.

Blowing hundreds of km of tunnels under civilian buildings? By terrorists hiding in hospitals, schools, mosques surrounded by civilians including children?
It's quite easy to do when your opponents intentionally hide amongst civilians. The numbers don't determine intent as hard as it is to imagine 30 thousand killed. If you look into the numbers, it's about 2 civilians for every one fighter killed, and even that sounds bad, but in a dense urban environment and compared to any other dense urban conflict, it is surprisingly low. Now, it doesn't make the numbers any less bad to imagine, but you would expect far more if it was intentional.
Most of these 30,000 are Hamas.

Because in the full 5hrs they never actually discuss anything sensibly and honestly, they merely try to win or appear to win in arguments surrounding a particular issue. They could argue just as ferociously and vehemently over the rules of tiddlywinks… These guys are not about reasoning sensible solutions, they’re all about trying to proliferate their own careers based on using semantics to look like they are winning arguments. Nothing good ever comes from these arguments, we need more transparent honest discussions that can actually lead to viable solutions.

Prof Finkelstein read Prof Morris’ quote saying Israel tried to avoid civilian casualties and followed it with a diary excerpt of a military official’s view of the horrors he saw and acted like that was a point. Am I missing something? To me that doesn’t seem to prove that there were actions that targeted civilians.

A good analogy is the My Lai disaster in Vietnam. The US troops intentionally killed women and children in the village and yet it was not an approved game plan by the US military generals. It was a rogue unit who made a terrible mistake. They are claiming that Hamas would intentionally conduct a My Lai against every village if they could have.

This comment section is very strange to me, I wonder out of the 3k comments who's actually LISTENING to the debate here. Because it is clear that Finklestein purposely misquotes and takes things out of context to strengthen his arguments and any unbiased listener should find that problematic. How he chooses to agree with UN assessments when they support his narrative but ignores them when they don't should be a telling sign again to the unbiased observer. This comment section is an unfortunate indictment on the level of critical thinking skills we have in this country. Furthermore constantly belittling your opponent because he annoys you as oppose to disagreeing with actual decent rebuttals backed by evidence is even more telling of Finklestein's character, note: no one belittled Norman even once.

Lots of people said different things in the heat of the moment after the crime against humanity that was Oct 7th. Instead of litigating every single instance of being human you need to understand that the IDF is a professional military and Israelis as a whole are not barbarians. Soldiers can refuse illegal orders. There are legal departments that check the actions of the IDF against international law and the government is subject to the law as well as enforced by the Supreme Court (which is still independent). Israel's actions, like asking population to evacuate, giving warnings, etc. as a whole are beyond what you'd find other armies doing. Look at what Russia did to Mariupol or what the coalition did in Mosul or other ISIS strongholds, how the US waged its wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and you won't see a single case of civilians being warned.
Its not even possible to call these genocidal, as they happened mere days after the oct 7 massacare.. its purely appealing to the people and their emotions. Start using your brain, please.
