He is a model academic -- interested only in getting to the truth, to the best of his ability. And despite his genius, he is astoundingly down to Earth, approachable, and generous with his time. If you disagree with any aspect of his analysis, so be it, but please know that the man is a model of personal and academic integrity.

A couple of observations on restrictions upon Palestinians in both “Green Line” Israel and the West Bank. I visited Israel in 2013. Our family hired a Palestinian tour guide. He showed us around most of the “Old City” of Jerusalem. However, he was not allowed to escort us to the Western Wall and its court area. Why? Because he was a Palestinian. Later in our stay, we visited the burial place of the Patriarchs in Hebron. Access to most of the interments is through a mosque. However, Jacob’s interment is accessed through a synagogue, and non-Jews, including Arab Palestinians, are forbidden to enter. In the West Bank, the separation of Jews and Palestinians is even more stark. The highway from Jerusalem to Bethlehem is flanked on one side by a great wall, on the other side of which are Palestinian refugee camps. The vast majority of Arab Palestinians are forbidden to use the main highway we traveled on, but are forced to use alternate roads. Parts of Hebron were completely emptied of people. We were introduced to a young Palestinian man who escorted us through blocks of deserted apartments. He claimed that the former Palestinian occupants had been resettled to the refugee camps that we passed by on the way to Bethlehem. He asserted that what Palestinians most urgently wanted was the chance to develop economically. Israel had been persistently presented to me as a “liberal democracy”. Sadly, my two visits to Israel did not confirm that.

What's mainly holding the US back is its domestic military that costs 100s of billions every year with zero profit made (unlike the weapons being sold to other countries). If you want taxes not to skyrocket and have better infrastructure that is what you should be attacking, the US's own military as oppose to the weapons it gives to others (with Israel and Ukraine being some of the few exceptions).
When you work with politics throughout a lifetime, you eventually learn that tears are mostly useless in the majority of academic and policy settings. Im a 63 yo American white christian (context) who was a strong supporter of Israel since college. I am the typical (non jewish) American demographic of an ‘Israel supporter.
That all changed for me about 4 years ago, when I started digging and found the work of the Israeli new historians, Miko Peled, Pappe , etc. I have to tell you that learning all that was like a gut-punch to me.
When one was raised to love &’believe in something like Imwas about Israel, to find out it was almost all a lie, well , its like coming home early and finding your spouse in bed with someone else. Mearsheimer was one of my professors in grad school. I cannot emphasize enough how sincere and well-meaning this man is. He makes every effort to be objective in EVERY foreign policy analysis. He is a model academic -- interested only in getting to the truth, to the best of his ability. And despite his genius, he is astoundingly down to Earth, approachable, and generous with his time. If you disagree with any aspect of his analysis, so be it, but please know that the man is a model of personal and academic integrity.
I honestly felt that shine through this whole video beginning to end, especially at the end responding to the questions from the students. He seems so kind, genuine, and sweet. I'm really happy to have been accompanied by him the past hour and a half. I'm very grateful for his work.

A couple of observations on restrictions upon Palestinians in both “Green Line” Israel and the West Bank. I visited Israel in 2013. Our family hired a Palestinian tour guide. He showed us around most of the “Old City” of Jerusalem. However, he was not allowed to escort us to the Western Wall and its court area. Why? Because he was a Palestinian. Later in our stay, we visited the burial place of the Patriarchs in Hebron. Access to most of the interments is through a mosque. However, Jacob’s interment is accessed through a synagogue, and non-Jews, including Arab Palestinians, are forbidden to enter. In the West Bank, the separation of Jews and Palestinians is even more stark. The highway from Jerusalem to Bethlehem is flanked on one side by a great wall, on the other side of which are Palestinian refugee camps. The vast majority of Arab Palestinians are forbidden to use the main highway we traveled on, but are forced to use alternate roads. Parts of Hebron were completely emptied of people. We were introduced to a young Palestinian man who escorted us through blocks of deserted apartments. He claimed that the former Palestinian occupants had been resettled to the refugee camps that we passed by on the way to Bethlehem. He asserted that what Palestinians most urgently wanted was the chance to develop economically.
Israel had been persistently presented to me as a “liberal democracy”. Sadly, my two visits to Israel did not confirm that.

not to say your point isn't wrong about Israel but it would make a tiny dent nationwide given how much infrastructure costs, and overall because of countries like Saudi Arabia the US has a net gain from making and selling weapons to other countries. What's mainly holding the US back is its domestic military that costs 100s of billions every year with zero profit made (unlike the weapons being sold to other countries). If you want taxes not to skyrocket and have better infrastructure that is what you should be attacking, the US's own military as oppose to the weapons it gives to others (with Israel and Ukraine being some of the few exceptions).

I happened to have been in Israel twice : in 1978 for more than 5 months, and in 1981, this time just for 6 weeks. During this last stay I realized that the approach and attitude from the side of Israel towards the Palestinians was the same as the approach of Nazi Germany towards the Jews.
