Great review, I'd definitely have it over any Beemer, Merc or Audi. Just a question, have you reviewed an M3/M4 on your channel. Was looking for it to compare this Lexus review and the M3 review.
The best thing about this car is when most of those comparable BMW’s are sitting broken down with broken hearted owners or they just send them to the scrapyard because they are too expensive to repair, this Lexus will probably still be running fine.
Having owned BMWs for the last 15 years this car is very enticing, reliability factor is only one reason however.. Plenty more, even knowing I will miss the chassis dynamics.
YOU ARE CORRECT! I have a 2022 M340i and it has been in for service at least 8 times already. I am currently talking to Lemon Law 🍋 lawyers.
BMW maintenance will bankrupt your average consumer. This is why they don’t do maintenance and that bmw will eventually explode.
you are - how do I say it - late to the party - my E30, E36 and E46 manual M3's have been low maintenance, lower than my 997 993 and 964 - had a Lexus LS430 a 1998 4 Runner and a 2004 Land Cruiser - sold them all happily ..........

The old 1uz-fe has the same fuel economy as the new 2ur ?? How? Well maybe it's the higher compression the 1ur has but still hard to believe Lol I guess u keep your 400 well taken care of.

@@bassicuk1986 This engine doesn't have cylinder deactivation. It adjusts the valves to simulate the Atkinson cycle featured in hybrid engines.
The primary reason to choose this over an M3 is that you will not have to get to know your mechanic on a first name basis. German "engineering" for the last 20 years has declined into overly complicated, completely unreliable crap.

Hey Sarah, thanks for extending garage science, I don’t know if it’s my favorite part It might loses out to the driving and the breaking test but not by much. It will be sad to see the V8 go especially this one. Yamaha and Toyota Have made some great engines this definitely being one of them. Best car reviews in the business🐧🐧🐧👍

better than a m3? lol! no. new car that is still super dated. when lexus better start putting a version of that v6 twin turbo tundra engine in all their cars or they are gonna fall to the wayside.

The exhaust sound is a bit tame. I’m sure CAFE regulations will probably spell the death of that V8 eventually. It may not be as fast as an M3 but it will probably last like 5 times longer and won’t cost as much to keep it on the road. Very nice car!

I love this car so much, but I would point out to anyone, its not an M3 fighter and Lexus doesn't call it that, it may have M3 levels of power but it's more of an M340i, S4, TLX Type S compeititor
And this IS 500 is More Like a Camry

Drives me nuts that Yamaha / Toyota partnership did not produce a updated JZ engine and the world has a BMW Supra. I loved your throwback to the Altezza and the Beams! Currently that Beams is on my radar for a AE86 GTS project I have going. The IS has always been rock solid value that requires little maintenance compared to is over engineered German competitors. Nice Review!

That thing sounds like s e x... the old school slot that you talk of, is for the old audiophile with hundreds if not thousands of cd's that sound way better on our old school massive systems , than the over compacted digital stuff that most are listening to these days. Those in the loop will mention qobuz streaming etc. but in most cases cd sounds better. Lexus and Mark Levinson are appealing to the audiophile community that care about the drive as much as the sound that accompanies it. As always I love your reviews they are funny, fun and informative.

This isn't even close to the same class as an M3. It's more like BMW's M performance M340i. The exhaust is pretty weak for an 8 cylinder. The inside is incredibly outdated as well. Honestly, this car is a disappointment.

Got it 1/8/2022, Infrared/White. Your review is spot-on. Will say that it's pretty different from the IS 350 F Sport, not just a motor difference. Steering is heavier, suspension is dampened more sharply. . .great performance in a car that can be comfortably driven daily.
It probably competes against an M340i because of price. M3 is like $25k more than the IS500.

Toyota is always better than BMW. Even Toyota Supra has BMW Z4 engine but better developed by Toyota.
And many superiority of Toyota unknown by commoners.
As an example Toyota Century standard is for Emperor of Japan and only available limited in the world a truly luxury unlike Rolls Royce, Mercedes Benz, BMW, etc all are common mainstream available worldwide.

I love the fact that Lexus isn't trying to be all things to all people. They are laser focused on building the highest quality cars with most of the features people want, but not everything under the sun. It’s a Grand Touring Mission car. Softer than an M3 but plenty of power stuffed in a very comfortable luxury yet sensible package.
That’s why the “no we are not an M3 killer.” That’s for race car wannabes.

Great in depth video. I owned a 2016 BMW M4 that thing was a mechanical nightmare. It lived more in the dealership than in my garage. After throwing a lot of money at my BMW M4, I realized that the BMWs are like strippers the more money you throw at them the better they perform. Nothing beats the reliability of a Lexus. I am deciding between this car, the 2022 C8, and even the 2022 911 GTS. The reason I am leaning towards this car is the price point and the Lexus reliability.

You mentioned that it felt smaller. Although it looks like you fit in it fine. My 5'10" wife hits her head in her is250 going over bumps. Although that does have the hole in the roof.
I’m 6’ 4” in those heels and fit fine.
Should be compared to m340i not M3, completely different class of cars. M3 will run circles around this in terms of performance.
I look at all that stuff under the car that can go bad and it depresses me today.

I’m stumped between buying this car, a used LC500, or a TLX Type S. I have a feeling that the IS500 and the LC will actually steadily hold their value over time, ( maybe even appreciate a little) but the TLX Type S is just as much fun to drive but somewhat cheaper. 🤔

That's really not how that works. Because of math, doubling amplifier output only turns a 3db difference, less than 1.5x Sound Pressure Level increase, and just over 20% more volume. The most important thing for shattering glass or eardrums would be speaker sensitivity.
Most high speaker count cars are running several of them in parallel, 17 speakers not 17 channels, which drops the circuit impedance down to a point where it takes a significantly higher output amplifier to drive them properly. It's less for loud, more for sound.
