What a marvelous ensemble of character actors chewing up the scenery! They sure don't make 'em like this anymore and more's the pity! Thank you for putting this up!
Good for you, passing on the interest, hopefully along with some of the history! The Rathbone era was very tied to WWII patriotic propaganda blended with (much needed) escapism. Works for me to this day! It's funny you mention the 6o's and 90's: I watched them every Friday night in the dorm in the 70's! And now! That's quite a perpetuity.
I also spotted Milburn Stone in a very old movie and was not sure until he spoke. The human voice never changes. It was fun to see him with a head full of black hair and young.
Thanks for posting this. The picture clarity is amazing. Anyone who loves old black and white movies, will also enjoy the thin man movies. Mystery mixed with comedy. The comedic dialogue between the two main characters is amazing.
I wondered if anybody else caught that! Interesting that he had acting ideas before he was the resort tennis pro who (understandably) caught Pat K.'s eye.
Well Sally did something very few landowners or wealthy heirs would do these days! A noble act and far more selfless than what many if given the same choice would do today .And Holmes would have had to live a heckuva long time to see his final words come to pass.

I don't recall peter lawford being a member of the ratpack? Joey Bishop, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr.,not a brit. among them. And peter was an Englishman. Don Rickles maybe?
But he’s got free rent in your TDS head. Sit back and watch, we won’t hurt you, we want you to succeed too, unless you want people to believe men can be women….
Love these Basil Rathbone/Sherlock films. Thanks for sharing!
These films have a way of making you feel cosy.
Totally agreed
Can’t believe the crisp clear picture, absolutely brilliant.
Am I the only one who is bothered by the insane number of commercials that spoiled the quality of the picture?
Anyone with taste and a smidgen of nostalgia.

Whose enjoying Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone ) and Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) in 2024.
Always have and always will 👍👏
And always late at night! 😅
Me too!
Love these old Sherlock Holmes movies 🎥. Always will.
Me too
Watched these first in the early 60s. Introduced them to my kids in the 90s. We still enjoy them immensely today.

Basil Rathbone is my favourite and Jeremy Brett is my 2nd of the actors who have potrayed Sherlock Holmes. Great movie.
Love those black and white films!Keep them coming!😊❤
Yes, from a time when actors didn’t take vitamins so therefore they were run down and colourless.
Very right and proper thinking, Watson!
I LOVE BLACK AND WHITE MOVIES. I LOVE SHERLOCK HOMES MOVIES WITH BASIL HAWTHORNE. HE WAS THE BEST.
THANK VERY MUCH FOR SHARING.
Amazing! I was a faithful watcher of this series Friday nights in my college days, and don't remember this one at all!
Thanks!
Great stuff. , I remember sitting in local flea pit, Saturdays, B&W horrors. I was probably 12
Yeah I was 12 too and watched them all that year.
Thanks for sharing!
Milburn Stone! It took a few minutes to recognize Doc Adams from Gunsmoke...
I also spotted Milburn Stone in a very old movie and was not sure until he spoke. The human voice never changes. It was fun to see him with a head full of black hair and young.

Love Halliwell Hobbes and 🐈⬛😃...and this Mrs.Hudson;
Basil superb and Nigel top too.
The young sailor that help with the bleeding hand was Peter Lawford from the Rat Pack fame , who married Patricia Kennedy..
Yes it is Peter lawford. He doesn’t get credit here but it is him.
Blimey!
I'll watch it anyway.
It's not Peter Lawford. Look closer fool.
I wondered if anybody else caught that! Interesting that he had acting ideas before he was the resort tennis pro who (understandably) caught Pat K.'s eye.
Great actors Great story great film
I’ve got 16 original radio shows on vinyl, I bought them in 1982…. I absolutely love the whole era…

lmao. watson! get a sedative for this hysterical woman!
"The old days of grab and greed are on their way out" .... Cue 35 years later : Thatcher - "Hold my beer !"
The butler had a way of saying things 😂 Remember watching sherlock holmes in the 80s, on BBC 2 friday evenings, happy days.
What a fantastic closing dialog by Sherlock at the end of the movie.....we should all strive to live by those words....❤❤❤
And there’s always some crisp English humor!
Better than the new movies today this is when people could act
Enchanting!
Love these movies
I am always looking for old movies
Thanks for sharing
Blimey The term originated in the 19th century as a shortened version of "gorblimey", which means "God blind me"
Interesting, thanks.
What does that mean, actually, why want to be blind….?
I thought it was a shortened version of "by my lady"?
@@jonathannelson103 I've never heard of that one...
@@earthdog9552 actually, I was wrong. I was thinking of "bloody" as short for "by my lady".
Love watching Sherlock Holmes
When I was a kid, Basil Rathbone was one of my first crushes. I was heartbroken when my Mom told me he was dead of old age.
Admirable suspense
Wow! Amazing restoration.
A brilliant film
Universal did a lovely job on these, I always thought the movies were British.
Blimey is slang for blind me , obviously as Sherlock might say .😊😊
Elementary!
Watched this loads of times over the years .
Well Sally did something very few landowners or wealthy heirs would do these days! A noble act and far more selfless than what many if given the same choice would do today .And Holmes would have had to live a heckuva long time to see his final words come to pass.
superbe !
Surprised to hear the word " cocksure" being used in this film
Back then, it didn't have any sexual connotation as you're projecting. No worse than using the word cocky for the same meaning today.
Cocksure didn't mean you had 10 in
@@jamessharpe6699 🤣🤣🤣 classic
Cock ‘O the walk
Try saying that in mixed company today. Being politically correct wasn't a thing back in the day.
We used to call him Basil Brothbone when we were kids in the late 1950's
Favorite SH and Watson 😊
You absolutely right I didn't recognize him from gunsmoke

Best $14 you will spend Utube premium. Takes care of all my viewing and listening needs!
@@usedscar $17 in Uk, still worth it.
As we on Premium say: "What ads?"
@@RickyB1959 I understand that $ is tight for most but it really is a great deal for what you get- peace mostly if you are on Utube already.
Does anyone know , what Blimey means ?
Corruption of the expression: "God Blind Me!"
Wow! That definition is a bit more stern than I thought. I will strive to use it more often.
Imagine Holmes and Watson acting out a love scene 😂🤣🤷🏼♂️ the dialogue here is so sterile.
A bit like two vulcans. No emotion.
Elementary, my dear Watson!
mother's ruin, is gin...fyi,
Many Holmes through Downey and "Elementary'
God willing
Full day of monetized irrelevant nauseating DAMN ADS!

Did nobody notice "Doc" from "Gunsmoke" at 23:52?
A very young Peter Lawford in the opening pub scene .
Hitting the gin, or as was called “mothers ruin”.
Should have done a quit claim and save the document for its historical value.
Did trains run from Northumberland to Euston. Most run to Kings Cross.....

Now that the US is well on its way to becoming a Oigarchy the ending of thus movie is wrong😢
Sir,
Plz. This movie in translation hindi... ❤
Isn't that blonde actress the same that played Blanche di Boi in streetcar named desire with Marlon Brando?
Blanche du Boi in 'A Streetcar Named Desire' was played by Vivien Leigh. (Unusually as a blond while she is a natural brunette)

Peter Lawford was indeed a. member of the "Rat Pack".
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Lawford
No Peter Lawford was in the Ratpack for awhile
In 'Oceans Eleven' (1960)
He did hang with them at one time.
👍👍👍
Entertaining but slightly on the cheesy side.
Which is why I prefer Jeremy Brett and a more respectable Watson instead of this buffoon.
watson's so crabby, not like the books at all,
