In this one, Holmes shows more warmth towards Watson than in some of the other films, where he can be a bit patronizing. Here, he actually praises and thanks Watson for standing up for him while his reputation is being damaged.
Love of the leading ladies of these Holmes movies....Evelyn Ankers, Gale Sondergaard, Hillary Brooke, Patricia Morrison...all of them gorgeous elegant actresses.
@@comicsfix8460 it’s the only movies I watch. I refuse to put the crap that’s out today in me. These movies are wholesome and have the greatest storyline ever!
What happened to the credits, beginning and ending? At least 2 minutes shorn off this movie. Which is a pity, given the otherwise high quality of the copy.
There seems to be a trend on You Tube to post weill known films with their titles cut off. Makes no sense. This movie has been on You Tube in its complete form for years. It may well be now, I have not looked.
@@TinnyDee Prhaps but the movie has been on You Tube for years. I am not sure what exactly the copyright covers or if once it goes into the public domain it doesn't stay there. The chopping of titles seems to be a recent phenomonon. Its easy to look movies up on IMDb or even identifiy those posted without giving the title. I really don't like seeing movies mutilated like this.
I do want to watch this motion picture but doesn’t the title remind you of that lady who bought a pair of black pearl earrings before hitting the sea over a boat with friends. She was told that black pearls bring protection when she just liked them. Little did she know they were about to experience a life-changing incident through which everyone failed to survive but her in the midst of endless blue.. for what seemed like endless days to her until a passing-by ship saved her. She lived to tell.. wearing the one earring she did not lose through that unfortunate trip with a shiny black pearl dangling still from her earlobe. This title just reminded me of it.
Love this version, but Nigel Bruce is my least favorite of the Watson charactors. Holmes would never align himself with such a bumbler. The Jeremy Brett "Watson" is much better.
I really like and appreciate Nigel Bruce’s character…many times extremely intelligent people are bumbling people…thing is; he’s LOYAL and that’s what matters. Think if Holmes didn’t have that…
Basil Rathbone at his best in another Holmes mystery. Love these old black and white movies too. Beats anything today. Thanks for the post. Joe S

A classic movie, much better than modern unrealistic one's. Thanks

I do enjoy these old films by far better than the new ones with all the silly effects. Thank you for bringing it to us.👏🥂

Thank you for the upload of this gem!!
THERE'S NOTHING LIKE THE BLACK AND WHITE MOVIES
It's a real pearl 😂

One of the more fascinating, fun movies of the Sherlock Holmes movies. Thank you,for sharing this film.
Sherlock being a smartass and how he reacts when he flops! Priceless😂
That last line by Holmes…..such prophecy!
Universal truth about greed and cruelty.
These are very enjoyable, but I do object to the way they turnt Watson into such a dithering bungler.
"Electricity, the high priest of false security" is quoted in the Firesign Theatre's "The Giant Rat of Sumatra."
Basil Rathbone was an expert swordsman.
They were older actors then. The film is so clear.
720p! 1080p would be really sharp!
I enjoyed the humor in this one , it gave a bit of lighter touch.
Still better than any MI ego driven movie . :) no cgi as well .
I don't watch new movies 😮
Neither do I -

Same, they are missing something and are very repetitive and below the bar of what I grew up with. The new movies are not for me right now.

Often a way to attempt to avoid copyright infringement...
Get over it, quit with the ungrateful, picky comments. People get enough of that in this day and age.

I've seen this one - with the beginning not cut off.
I noticed often that some uploaders always cut off film here and there and also changed the original name of the film, but why?

In the first scene he hides the pearl in a secret compartment so how does the women find it.

They decided to make Watson more of a bumble in the films than he was in the books because it kept most of the attention on the more clever Holmes.
You mean 'Edward Hardwicke'?
