      That's the brilliance of Dandadan, it can pull off pretty much any genre, and not phone it in, but do said genre justice. It can make you all giddy with the cutesy high-school romance one episode, all hyped up and pumped with some cool action the next and then derail your entire emotional wellbeing on the one after.

    The anime makes it seem very ambiguous, but she was never killed on the street. In her last moments she danced on top of a building, and then jumped off. That's why you hear the loud thud. Since a sad story overall. AMAZING job by the anime for the adaptation.

    So not a lot of people pick this up because they made the scene way more artistic in the Anime compared to the Manga, but that scene of her dancing was her on the rooftop, with her final jump she does being her “final act” as she plummets to the ground. She had lost everything and so died doing the one thing that connected her to her daughter. This episode is just fucking raw emotionally and I was bawling my eyes out throughout her entire flashback scene. I’m just happy she was able to connect with Aira before she moved on.

    I'm so glad they did this story justice, because to me it's the most crucial moment of the entire show/manga. It's the point where Dandadan shows you that it might be fun a shonen/romance, but it's also capable of ripping your heart out without a warning, showing you something so tragic, violent, and most of all, terrifyingly real.
    I knew every bit of what was going to happen, and it hurt even worse than the first time, that's an achievement.

    when granny said "whether or not she can rest in peace is up to her heart", I really believe it reflect granny herself because she to can't rest in peace. when she was being hard on silky, I believe it's not because she was not empathic, maybe it's because she too had a very tragic backstory. but for now, nobody knows as the author haven't reveal anything about granny's past.

    you must understand that Turbo Granny is a very old ghost she seen death a lot of times and which desensitize her, the one you should focus on her character is "I Don't Lie" in Episode 5. when Acrobatic Silky propose to give her aura for her to be revived. Turbo Granny admit it's true ,because of Momo having doubts on that offer. She don't Lie as far as i know, She don't mix words Shell tell you what's up,

    • @moonrabbit1715
      @moonrabbit1715 2 місяці тому +12

      i think turbo granny is just being tsundere, she dont show sympathy but still care for the girls on previous episode. and on this episode, you can tell that she already know that Silky will help Aira, and Aira will help Silky. she is somehow telling them what they are suppose to do, so that they take action themselves, like how she is talking about Silky disappearing, knowing full well that Aira is hearing all she is saying.

  • @solomonwaldmarck9851
    @solomonwaldmarck9851 2 місяці тому +41

    Just to clarify, Acro Silky's cause of death was not due to her getting hit and run by a car or by the wound the loanshark gave her. The anime make it less obvious but that scene where she was dancing in the water actually took place at the rooftop of a building, and when she jumped and doing a backflip she's actually jumping to her death, thus why there's a "thud" sound not long after that scene. That scene was actually her committing an s-word. There is a panel in the manga where she was shown falling head first from the building but the anime seems to be deliberately omitted it as it may be too much to handle for many of the viewers

    • @nickb6425
      @nickb6425 2 місяці тому +3

      Tbh I don't like that change in the anime, as the growing pool of blood makes it seem like she bled out on the street. Thus making her dance on the roof seem like a post death transformation? Don't get me wrong I LOVE the scenery as she dances and the liberties they took, even some of the subtlety. But I think making a bit clearer, even making her bang her fist on the road like it looks like she does in the manga woulda made enough of a difference. Regardless just like in the manga, this scene automatically breaks me 😅🥲

    This ep also reminds me of the begining of the movie "up" both scenes are framed and edited in such a humane compassiotate way, even tho both have different subjects both hit the same way, the more i watch this scene that mind you is almost 9 minutes long in a 24 min ep (not a movie and they still gave enought time to respect the character), the more i watch the more details matter. . . she wakes up in a strange house with her clothes all mushed on the side of the bed and money on the bedside table and a key with that resembles hotel keys, you can hear the sound of someone taking a shower, she then goes home alone in the rain passing by people with personal lives that are goin out to karaoke and to drink, she passes by a store with a dress that her daughter would love, before she opens the door she stops and breaths like she is reseting and seperating her self from the world outside, we see her working has a janitor in a mall, has a clerk in a 7/11, and again we see the hotel key and money on the bedside table, all this while she provides hapiness and safety to her child, if you notice their meals are very well prepared but simple (if you grew with lack of money you know), meanwhile her daughter is growing, we see her wanting to become a ballet dancer and doing some moves with no shoes at the start, then with some big ballet shoes probably her mothers (this makes me think her mom gave up on her carrer for her daughter) has time goes by the mom can finaly buy her daughter the dress, then when everything is going well the unfairness of life hits, losing her child (her life and her dream) to such vile despicaple men ( to who she probably owes money but that doesnt matter) injured and alone she became hopeless, we then have her last dance simbolizing her suicide ( not to mention the dry falling sound when the music stops) then what we see is now on a diferent light and her memories hazy because she is now a ghost (what also means Aira can see ghosts since she was a kid 0.0 ) so now she latches on to the remnants of her daughter that she saw on Aira
    Mind you i didnt read the manga so maybe i got something wrong but that how i see it and its gutwrenching

    So this is an anime only detail. But in the scene where she’s counting the money, you can see blurred in the background a calendar with a date circled. More than likely it’s in reference to her daughter’s bday. So she had to choose to either pay rent or buy her daughter a gift. And it’s obvious what she chose.
    So the people that came in were probably her landlord asking for rent and then they took her daughter as compensation. It’s not this detailed in the manga so this was just an extra gut punch to add to the already sad backstory.

    I wouldn't say it was the Mom's lifestyle choices that led to the violent attack it's more like her desperate circumstances. She was a talented dancer, so I'm sure if she had the opportunity she would work as a dancer
    I read a comment saying that, in the period in which the flashback took place, Japan's economy was in severe crisis.
    It was commonplace for financially struggling people to borrow money from "undesirables".
    Sadly, many found they could not pay the money back, as the economy continued in recession.
    This would explain the many jobs, janitor, and cashier, even prostituting her body and leaving her young daughter alone during her late-night "appointments" to earn money to support her, and her daughter, and pay back the criminals/Yakuza.

    she didnt call the police because she borrow money from the loan shark or yakuza thus why she cant do anything , also she died from jumping on top of the building while dancing (in the anime they didnt show explicitly where and why she died because of the cencorship , and the lights where she do the last ballet dance is not the stars but city light , she is at the top of the building)

    There are some scenes that were censored because of sensitive subject matters, but is still very well animated and hinted:
    Silky as a mother is seemed to be a sex worker but also work tons of different jobs at the same time because of her financial struggles, as the first scene of her flashbacks shows her waking up of what is actually a love hotel, and the money on the table looks like what her client has left.
    She didn’t actually die on the streets nor get hit by a car. The scene of her dancing actually took place on the roof of her apartment building, as the starry sky and all the sparkles hints that they were city lights, and it looked like a surface of water because it was raining. And when she did a backflip on the last scene it was actually her jumping off and killing herself, as very soon after the scene u can hear the loud stump and a blackout.
    It is such a beautiful episode and the whole story and animation is just so well done and heartbreaking :/

    this episode reminded me a lot of the Bo Burnham song "White Woman's Instagram". because up to here the show had been a kooky quirky slightly romantic action-comedy, and suddenly it just punches you right in the gut, just like the song which at first listen you think is making fun of people being basic with their social media profiles until the bridge in which the protagonist is humanized in a tragic way. both media showing that there is a person behind every creation, with a story that is every bit as complex and deep as one's own.

    One of the things that we take for granted...is being able to live through our childhood, some unfortunate child just having seen the world for a few years could not..As human beings no matter who we believed in, we desperately desperately hope that there is an after life, a better life for the unfortunate soul..The daughter sadly died after..it is highly believed that since silky owned money, the child was used for organ trafficking as difficult it is for many to believed that, it does happen, and considering she is just 3 to 4 yrs old is so much more devastaking..it its never showed but i can only hope she did not suffer too much

    How can we calm the actions of the monsters that we see in this world today?
    This story got me thinking about these things.

    More infos about this poor woman, she worked in so many jobs even prostitution then when she lost her child, she made a last dance a jump from a building/balcony.
    Aira and the Yokai share a same pain, the lost of their loved one Mother/daughter and they share at the end this pain and this forgiveness/appeasement.
    Good job to staff who made this episode.

    In Japan, a lot of times anyone who has to turn to sex work has to go through the Yakuza to do so, so when she was alive she used them to find clients and make money. Presumably, she didn't pay them her dues or kept too much money or something which made them mad and attack her, which led to that whole confrontation where they took her daughter

    I think because turbo has witnessed some of the most evil acts you can do to another person it makes sense that she would be a little cold in general. I also am unsure if she even picked up on the fact that they got to see her life story so maybe it was her way of trying to shield momo in a way. She just really doesn't, to me at least, come across as a character that would be that cold for no reason. Also as far as 19:50, i mean i guess yeah she chose it. But it seemed to make up the bulk of her income and I find it incredibly hard to believe she would still choose to do that if she could afford not too bc it didnt seem like something she enjoyed. It feels like she didn't have a choice really

    i'm pretty sure yokai become yokai because of unresolved trauma, so most of their backstories are probably going to be tragic. The legend of the Turbo Granny yokai is from the elderly being taken to the mountains and abandoned by their families when they become too much of a burden to take care of at home. So most yokai have sad backstories of why they became yokai

      I think it has more to do with turning into a spirit. A lot of cultures portray a spirit as not being able to keep track of time or understand what is going on. Since she is a recent spirit (a "rookie" as Turbo Granny calls it) her mind is still trying to comprehend what was going on

    • @AWSOM817
      @AWSOM817 2 місяці тому

      @@ssjbargainsaleidk about other cultures but in Japan, when people died and not pass over, they manifest as the last immediate condition before their death, as seen Acro silk wearing the same cloth and even wounds in meeting with Aira, that is why she mostly forgot about anything because that fall, that type of concussion always brought memory loss. And for another example Turbo granny background story when Seiko granny said she travel around to listening girls that died from SA and mutilated, so ordinary ghost retained their lives memory unless there was cause to be.

    • @ssjbargainsale
      @ssjbargainsale 2 місяці тому

      @@AWSOM817 Im aware, but the way it was shown it looks more like someone waking up confused cause of all the stress and anguish they suffered before. Like someone waking up after a manic episode. Still trying to figure out what happened and how they got there. Even in japanese stories, the spirits are shown completely taken over by the emotions they had at the tine of death, but eventually they regain their memories when healed. The same happened here, when silky remembered her daughter in the end. To me it has less to do with the head injury and more with the mental state.
      None of it is real so we will never know, but since the author references many cultires worldwide when portraying the "monsters", I think it makes a lot of sense

    Turbo granny was never human, she was born as a yokai from all the negativity and resentment from women who were brutally murdered or raped by men, all that negative emotions gave form to her and that's why she takes care of the souls of women who are killed in that way. Since she's 100% a yokai she doesn't understand human feelings well plus she has seen death so many times it doesn't really bothers her, it's just an everyday topic for her.

    like you said, its heavily implied that she was a prostitute. i dont recall if this was made more clear in the manga (its been a while since i read this arc), but based on her taking money out of the envelope, my understanding is that she 'stole' (even though she earned it herself) the money from what she owed her pimps in order to buy the dress, and then the pimps came looking to collect when she didnt give them enough.

    Just saying, but Human trafficking or "that word" isn't the only possibility for that daughter.
    It is possible that the daughter might have been sold to some childless person or couple (which in a way would be considered as trafficking).
    While it might seem odd, as adoption is an option. But in many countries, it isn't easy for people to adopt a child because of local laws (especially for those who want to be single parent). Those kind-off people usually end up using illegal means, like buying a kidnapped child, to get one.
