- WOW! Did not expect that much! Had a great day with my buddy REG gold panning on the Fraser river. Last year's floods obviously deposited more gold up high on the bar, as we found way more gold than expected t this spot. Check out our adventures in gold panning.

This is a textbook example of how important it is to test layers and lines. As Dan shows here, sometimes the top inch is the only layer that is loaded with gold. Regardless, that is some fine Fraser River gold!
Yep that can of course be any where you can prospect for the AU.
I'm carefully surveying a meltwater channel from an ancient glacial moraine. The layering is AGONIZINGLY complicated. Mixed up glacial material, then the various layers from melting and rains creating different meanders, along with differences in hardness of the clay underneath. You find tremendous variations in the gravel-sand layers just inches apart.
@@bobbyspain905 - yes, correct. Most guys won't just dig the top inch only as that goes against the conventional wisdom of 'dig deeper'.

@@danhodgins4015 Just did a horizontal dig from my initial hole. Turns out I was in the channel already! The sediments to the side have nothing but a trace of gold dust! So, now I need to find out how that channel twists and turns its way down the side of the little valley the meltwater made 10,000 years ago.

As the mom of a redhead, I don't know how you stay out in the sun that long. You must be reapplying heavy duty sunscreen every hour to not get fried. I'm so glad that you're taking care to not get burned! That could be a real issue if you're a redhead. Her dad has already had melanoma five times so please please reapply often! It's like what Reg was saying right there at the end: That is a spot where it's definitely worth saving the heavies to run through a Blue Bowl or across a Miller table. I think one could increase his take by an easy 5%. I'd bet it's loaded with 150-.

I could hangout with you all day everyday..i have no idea how you;re ever alone..glad to see some company today. That gold was off the chain. I pan small Ohio rivers in the summer, so i work hard for a lot less, i'd be in heaven on the Fraser.

There is a place in Idaho known as China bar. China Bar began as a patented mining claim that got its name from Chinese gold miners who spent a couple years on the bar reworking the property after white settlers had moved on.

Shhhhhh lol ive heard a slight rumour too but I hear the name whispered as being Maple Dirt Paydirt Limited Edition "BC Black Sand" Expert paydirt, rumour has it they are 50\50 magnetic
on magnetic material, a pinch or two of Garnets from Mission Creek and some AUsome and challenging flour and fine gold and maybe even some bigger pickers....... ive heard there are slight delays in production and release of it but work is progressing slowly and updates will be given once R&D finish their side of the project ;)

I am on the South Fork of the American River and like you, our black sands are insane! All the more reason to really stratify the material. We get really good gold but not as good as yours.

Cheers ;) indeed, that seems to be a common theme in the comments hehe the Elusive Reg has emerged :P from the depths of southern Ontario, made the pilgrimage to the Gold bearing lands to see what his pan could find ;) it may just become an annual trip, finances willing lmfao it was costly to travel the road trip and there were some bumps along the way (mainly vehicle issues that took time to fix) but alas it was AUsome and a blast to pan such an amazing location with great friends and find some of that glorious shiny in the pan ;)

If I’m not mistaken, black sand is magnetite. Magnetite is magnetic. Wouldn’t it be easy to separate the gold from the black sand with a neodymium magnet?

I’ve been watching the Primitive Technology guy panning and sluicing for the black sand. He uses it to make primitive metal tools. You should try saving up a bunch of the black sand and try some blacksmithing.
