Hey Hunter. Some info for you- Actually Wisconsin has gold deposits that are'nt from glacial deposits. Good luck!
Cool video. When i was in college at UW Eau Claire I came over here to check out the Rock Elm disturbance. An extremely rare mineral called reidite was discovered there, which has only been found in 5-6 other places on earth. It is a form of metamorphized zircon, which can only occur by a meteor. Very foolish that someone ID'd this place. Except for filling the holes you mentioned, THAT'S the way to ruin nice spots.
Used to live in Black River Falls, there were a lot of good trails to go mountain biking on, some went miles into the middle of nowhere. Plenty of streams to prospect in that area.
I’ve panned for gold on the St. Croix River before, but it was just kind of for fun and we never really found anything but I would absolutely do it again
@@GlacialGoldHunterHi! Another woman interested in this. I'm in East Central MN on the Mississippi. My area has exposed granite nearby and gravel. Dig 2 ft in my yard and gravel - more like small rock. Along my land runs a 1000 ft spring fed creek in a 15 ft deep ravine with high output. It averaged about 1-2 ft deep and 40 ft wide at the mouth. It's lower now d/t a city well a mile away straining the water table (sprinklers watering monoculture lawns, long showers, hot tubs, pools, overpopulation). Near the spring are small rocks stained presumably with iron, covered with black sludge. Farther down toward the river, more sand with sludge. I'm on a reservoir, so I'm assuming this creek ran deeper over rock into a lower river, and the lower part has filled with sand and silt leveling the bed. There was a large sandbar at the mouth that had a damming effect. The DNR stupidly allowed a neighbor to excavate most of it for better river access. 35 yrs later they said the permit shouldn't have been granted as river water and silt have infiltrated the mouth, and there's a bit of a quicksand situation (I've gotten stuck, and while still sinking was able to get out thanx to a tree branch. Had to dig out the waders!). Also there's a clay layer about 20 ft - know this from driving wells. So, given all that, any prospects in my backyard? The creek is right there and it might be a fun hobby. 😊
We got out two days last week and found a pretty good spot. The bugs weren't even that bad! My understanding is that the meteorite didn't deliver the gold, but blasted the crust which left a fair amount on the surface. Visually, to me, the gold looks different than the glacial micro gold dust. I bet a microscope would shed some light on the source and travel distance of the gold.

🤔 I know that it's flower dust around here in Duluth and superior and around here but is it possible to find one big chunk or one big nugget? And if there was so much volcanoes around here, isn't it possible to find like a diamond here or there?
Diamonds are found in a very specific type of volcanism. And that is found more in northern Canada but not around Duluth. There are some reports of diamonds that the glaciers brought down though. I’ve never seen one though. And if there was a gold nugget it would be very random but it’s not impossible.

I think this might be a fun hobby for me. I live in Madison, Wi and Black Earth creek seems to have collected flour gold from glacial processes. Does anyone have ideas or thoughts getting started.
Buy a pan, classifier, snuffer, and a shovel. Go to public land and start looking for gravel bars. Keep prospecting til you find some. You learn with each scoop.
I didn't think Wisconsin had any accessible gold because of the glaciers. Whatever gold there was is buried in the sand and gravel under the topsoil. Would panning sand pits be worth a try? I just found this channel so I'm new at this.
Wisconsin has very little in way of gold deposits of its own. A lot of the flour gold came with the glaciers as there came down from Canada. Sand pits could be a good place to test because that would be a place of out wash from the glaciers. Sand with gravel might be better but the only way to know for sure is to test.
I had no idea that the area had gold! I live nearby too. Within an hour of it atleast. Also, no knowledge about gold mining whatsoever but if the gold was moved by galcer and rivers and streams were probably bigger would it be worth it to dig on the bank?
@@GlacialGoldHunter I think the emeralds in western WI came from else where. Look for the blue/green clay to find those. There is another mineral found here that has only been found in one other part of the world pretty close to where you were.😉
@ I’ve seen some nice black sand along the banks there but I I’m not sure if I was still on State Park land. One of these days I need to get myself a pan and give it a go at another place closer to me that looks promising. Black sand & clay on a riverbank just south of an end moraine. I didn’t know until watching this that clay might be an indicator. Liked & subscribed. - Happy panning. 🤗
@ well the clay can act as a false bedrock and the gold can stick to it. But clay on its own isn’t really an indicator for gold. It just helps when there is gold in the area.
That’s much more subtle and over a larger region. So impact makes sense but geology does a lot of interpretation of the evidence and it’s possible that sometimes there is another interpretation.
You're a natural at filming stuff like this. Not a gold guy, just an appreciator of good videos!

Would you consider a road trip to BC Canada? I've seen some crzy good vids on prospecting in that region.
Oh that’s a long road trip but I would love to go panning there. If my channel gets big enough maybe I’ll go visit Dan Hurd.
You do realize streams move, a low pressure one year, can move. The creek a hundred years ago could be the trail you're walking on.
Yes. I am well aware. What are you pointing out?
I had no idea that the area had gold! I live nearby too. Within an hour of it atleast. Also, no knowledge about gold mining whatsoever but if the gold was moved by galcer and rivers and streams were probably bigger would it be worth it to dig on the bank?
No no no. Don’t dig in the bank. That’s illegal. The stream does the sorting. Dig in the stream.
Idk anything except from videos but that sluice water speed seemed quite fast
I believe dream mats are meant to run fast.
I’m in Wi. The drift less area in fact….maybe one of these days I’ll venture out. Just to enjoy the day of peace. But also prepare for the bugs.
Let me know if you find any gold. I’ve wondered if there is gold in the drift less zone.
So your this Minnesota Nice I've always heard about
Onward 😂 keep grinding 🛸
This is not far from my house I have panned here with my kids and found specs like you!! Diamonds and emeralds have also been found.
Really. I’ll have to keep an eye out for diamonds. They must have come from Canada too.
@@GlacialGoldHunter I think the emeralds in western WI came from else where. Look for the blue/green clay to find those. There is another mineral found here that has only been found in one other part of the world pretty close to where you were.😉
I know where this is and have found flour gold here. In the early 1900's they found dimond's in this very creek.
I’ve heard they found diamonds there too. I’ve never found one but the glaciers probably brought those too.
I was there last week. Always decent gold (for the midwest).
@@JohnnieDukes it’s a super fun spot.
I’m wondering if you should have less water running over your sluce, so less material is caught…doesn’t run off
@@josiespreitzer1690 maybe. I’m still learning.
Almost 50 & female 👋🏻
Have you ever panned WI Lake Michigan beaches?
@@christinem2511 I’ve never made it to Lake Michigan no. That would be fun to try.
@
I’ve seen some nice black sand along the banks there but I I’m not sure if I was still on State Park land.

Good to know!
Thought in Wisconsin you can't take anything out of water ways?
That’s not quite accurate. Panning is legal in Wisconsin.
do you think there could be gold along the manitowac river? my wife's family has a tree farm along it, tempted to try panning for the hell of it
I’ve never been in that area but it’s sure worth a try! Pans are not too expensive. Warning though. If you find some it may give you the fever!
Try Gold Phenoms gravity panning give it a view start classifying and panning to cons 1/ 2 3 shovel buckets per hr
I’ll have to look it up.
Could the tilting be from the ground rebounding from the glacier melting?
That’s much more subtle and over a larger region. So impact makes sense but geology does a lot of interpretation of the evidence and it’s possible that sometimes there is another interpretation.
You can fill that vile in a week in the right spot with a gold cube (with) the trommel mounted on top!
What state are you from?
