  • In this video, we talk about the best thing you can do for heat pumps, and that is increasing airflow. The biggest mistake most people make, and most contractors make, is underestimating the importance of airflow when it comes to heat pumps and air conditioners. Something as simple as a dirty filter can cause your heat pump or air conditioner to malfunction, ice up, or even damage components rendering the system in need of unnecessary repairs. In this video we talk about how to correct that and make sure your HVAC system has plenty of air to breathe.

I have a Daikin MXL 18,000 BTU enhanced capacity inverter driven compressor heat pump with 2 indoor floor units. The upstairs one heated the floor without a problem. I finally figured out that the airflow around the downstairs unit was restricted, both on the intake and output. I moved the sideboard over as far as it would go, increasing the gap from the air intake from 4 inches to 18 inches. Then I moved a shelf unit away from in front of it. It worked well afterward, even maintaining 22 C when it was -12 C outside outside.

Great video. Very well paced & explained. So I have 1/2 of my problem solved. I can ask to see a contractor's Duct & Airflow Chart Analysis. The other 1/2 is getting someone who knows what I am talking about AND will do the calculations :)
Again, great, educational & practical video!!!

I haven't' checked yet. I will before my changeout. Most furnaces call for a 0.5 in h20 pressure differential. If it is out of wack and there's too much return flow. Do you just start blocking off the closer returns and adjust? I have my suspicions that I have too much return flow. Less static pressure of the discharge?

Never block returns you won’t have too much return air ever, it’s a matter of increasing airflow most likely if your static is high

Why do you show ductless interior wall units as you talk about duct work?
