There's something to a very difficult racing game with a fine selection of trance and techno that just fits. Like a table top machine in a bar with rock n roll music playing in the background. It's exciting and calming at the same time since you really can get into a state of trance and play for hours without noticing. That's something only those fast and straight forward arcade racers like mc2 and the Wipeout series could achieve. The only modern game that comes close is ballistic ng
She will always be my favourite midnight club. Mc2 was difficult for me back in the day like around 2009. Now im back way better than before and im defeating every including kenichi, savo and my fovourite out of all bosses, Makoto. They are so many things that happen possitively of me gaming racing over the year that lead me now to become one of the greatest car racing racer gamers in life. I need to get camera gear so i can show people guides and tips of becoming great at not only mc2 but other racing games.
I played the shit out of this game on my dad's PS2. So much, I burnt the green outline of the minimap into my old Hitachi TV. Childhoods really do fly by.
Such a unique wonderful game. A timeless gem which is still quite under appreciated. Absolutely LOVE the atmosphere, music, races, uniqueness of each over the top character, and learning curve of the wicked variety of the races. Great tribute fella, evident appreciation. Truly love this game, and I relate to what you say about the main menu theme. It's a character on its own and immerses you into the vibe of the game perfectly 😊🥰
@1:16 fun fact, the handling felt different on PC vs console (analog vs digital) @6:50 career mode was very tough from what I remember, in some races even if you crashed just once you might as well just restart the race since you knew it would be a loss @8:13 fun fact, half of Daft Punk did music for MC2 as well @9:16 I do have a lot to say about online play(mostly related to PS2 specifically). At MC2's peak online play (at least on PS22) was basically divided between people who mainly Cruised, Raced, or played Capture the Flag (CTF). CTF was my preferred choice, and I believe it was the most popular overall. You could also play with Power Ups (think Mario Kart power ups) which was always interesting. I feel like a lot of the time we played without power ups. MC2 was one of the first PS2 games to even have online capability that I remember. Playing online back then was not nearly as popular as it is now. You had to buy a separate Network adapter and keyboard. I remember clan wars being a regular thing for online CTF as well. I noticed you didn't have any online footage. When the servers for PS2 online play were being shutdown, a group of us got back online one last time to play. I recorded those last days and you can see the footage here: ua-cam.com/video/nj_xDOcUp_U/v-deo.html It is important to note there is a pretty big difference between console online play and PC online play. Another fun topic is Cheat Codes. MC2 had cheat codes for rockets and machine guns, for improved weight transfer, and a few others. Some cheat codes worked online, and some didn't. For Example, improved weight transfer (carcrobatics - i still remember it after all these years) did work online. Machine guns and rockets did not work online UNLESS you had PS2 gameshark. They would work but the guns and rockets would be invisible to anybody but yourself (yes massively overpowered) I also don't think you mentioned it in the video, but even though the cars were not licensed - all cars are based off of a car IRL. This video is incredibly well done, and everything is 100% true. Good job
Always appreciated how MC2 gave you distinct characters with cutscenes that were in your face & a bunch of voicelines for most situations. It had personality. MC3 was lacking in that department.
I wish they'd put it back on steam. Really good video and I appreciate the effort put in. My personal favorite is midnight club 3 but i can see why you would be so fond of this game. I definitely ought to replay it soon

This piece of art not only made me love cars and racing games, but it also played a significant role in shaping my music taste and inspired me to create my own music. I'd say it's a classic gem that I'll definitely find myself replaying when I'm old. It has something I've been trying to find in every similar arcade racing game, but I just can't. Could it be just nostalgia? I don't know, but I do know that everything about MC2 feels and it's right, and it always will be a safe place to come back to. Great video!
This game blew my mind back in the day, loved to drive around the city smashing into other cars and all. Thank you for unlocking one of my core memories
Very well-made video! MCII is also one of my most favorite video games of all time, I started playing it around 2004 or 2005 and never really stopped playing. I 100% the game at least once a year, it's just such a unique vibe and combination of cool ideas that it's giving me pretty much everything I could ever ask for in a racing game. It plays well, the soundtrack is absolutely perfect and unmatched, the gameplay is phenomenal and even the graphics have aged well (light effects look beautiful) and thanks to the Steam version even higher resolutions are supported. I'm very happy to see that others also care deeply about that game, it's a true gem!
I didn't know I needed this video. This was amazing man. I just started a new playthrough 2 days ago and I also have a lot of songs from the soundtrack in my favourites list. This game is such a vibe, i swear.
I played this as a kid on ps2 . I bought it a couple of weeks for pc off of Amazon. Once I received it, I was so ready to play but realized my laptop didn't have a disc tray. I ended up going to Best Buy that day and buying an external disc drive . It's definitely different playing it on pc, but it's still loads of fun .

Nitrous and SST combo is goated idek you could do that, gonna link this vid in my MC2 bike guide on steam cause you perfectly summed up what they're like to use in game imo (plus you really well demonstrated the curb physics which I mention in the guide too) and your career transition slide goes hard.
