Thanks again Ed! This is my 5th VINwiki story and my second favorite behind the Gumball 3000 story. After talking for a couple hours I started to lose my voice towards the end haha. I'm so happy to finally get around to talking about my Mazda. After watching the video, read below. I want to add a few notes to my story: Super Street magazine feature, Jan 2001 issue. The Stuff story, Dec 2000 issue. When I talk about a limited number of cool cars in 1995, I should have added: "under $20K". I forgot to mention my Mazda was featured in Jin's "Learn Chinese" rap video that filmed in DC. The Midnight Club photo shoot took place in 2000. Rockstar used stunt drivers to drive our cars because they were covered by insurance in case anything happened. The original car that was supposed to be behind my car on the game cover was a red FD RX-7 but the motor blew right before the shoot. The black Supra was never in the video intro or commercial due to scheduling conflicts. The producer tried switching the position of the cars for the cover but the Supra was too dark. After this interview, I found one of the photo proofs of the game cover. The Times Square background was just too dark due to fog and rain so they had to digitally add in the background for the final cover: flic.kr/s/aHsmfMnzfJ
thank you for existing, my childhood would have been completely different with the Mischeif series and Teckademics . i had all those magazines with your MX6 in it, wish i still had them
I watched that intro video hundreds of times as a kid and your car is one of the reasons I gained interest in imports. Your car let a kid’s imagination go wild.
MikesRandomCars 300hp was expected it wasn't a threat 500-700hp was the real threat and 800hp+ wasn't really around a lot and very few cars that raced on the street made that much
MikesRandomCars yeah now almost all cars have 800-1200hp although you can make that power fairly cheaply with a turbo ls it isn't uncommon to run into someone making 1500+hp
MikesRandomCars well that all depends on what you are racing if you are trying to race the street outlaws people then yes you do but if it's local people or most people it's just a 15-20k car not 100k+
Such a shame if this guy would show this car off today, there will be a bunch of uneducated kids calling it a ricer. Although there's so much rich history behind it...
If Dustin came out to an event and displayed all those mementos of the cars history people would hesitate to pass judgement. It’s more of a portal into the past than a ricer.
When the game came out, I couldn't tell what the car was. It's a unique car and even though the early 2000s tuning scene had some god awful gaudy ricers, yours had a clean look and the body kit actually flowed with the design of the MX6.
Dude..... this is by far one of the most awesome stories I have watched on here to date. I saw this car in the magazines, I had a copy of Midnight Club...... this is freaking epic, and I am glad to hear that you still have the car despite it needing some love to get it back on the road. I if you lived in Northwest Arkansas, I would be happy to help in a heart beat!! It is an automotive piece of history, it deserves to live again :)
Doug Bedo Well if it makes you feel any better...both were designed by the same guy. 😁 The designer modified his sister's Expedition to beat a 4.6 liter Mustang GT. His brother has a 1988 626 GT that has beaten a few Corvettes.
Great story! I remember the ‘00 body kit craze, lmao. Nowadays we’d call this rice, but the older guys like me appreciate/understand the history behind it.
Sends car to a "tuner" with cash up front to do work. "Tuner" takes money, does nothing with car, goes bankrupt. Owner barely gets car back, "tuner" kept virtually all of the money. I've lost track of how many times I've heard this story from *thousands* of different people. People question why I don't trust anyone to touch my car for ANY reason.
It's such an infuriating thing. Friend of mines sent his Porsche to a garage for an engine rebuild nearly a year ago. Still not heard anything back yet.
Same shit happened to me when I blew my engine on my civic. I got kind of lucky, the mechanic did the work but it took him about a YEAR. To replace the block LOL. I was young and dumb so I didn't know how long replacing a block took, so I just assumed he was doing a "thorough" job LOL. Funny now, but kind of embarrassing.
Great story, especially mentioning "Metro". Brings back lots of memories of my ex and I every Fri and Sat night going there after sneaking out and stealing her fathers 540i. The good old days.. Keep up the great work VIN!
damn I remember I would turn my ps2 off and on just so I can watch the intro to midnight club over and over again. what a great back story to how it came to be 🖤
My dad had an Mx-6 before I was born. It was totaled a few years before I was born but he said it was an awesome car. Watching this and hearing those stories kinda make me want one.
I remember this MX6 was like a ray of light to me. I used to own a FC RX7 when I was single and loved it, but it didn't work with my new family man status. So I purchased a MX6 because it had a semi usable back seat while still being kind of sporty. The MX6 was really a compromise car for me, because I really wanted a FD RX7. At the time there weren't a lot of new Japanese performance cars for sale and I just felt like I sold my soul with this MX6, then I saw the yellow MX6 in a magazine with the shogun body kit and instantly felt like I was still in the game. Thank you for giving a family man a ray of hope.
My first car was the mx6 as well! Great sound, great handling, great looks! Unfortunately I totaled it going 110 around a 25 curve and split a phone pole in half.
I remember the mischief videos and Jin that real friendly rapper he's from my home town used to rap in the hallways. I really like these vinwiki videos.
As a guy who was a huge fan of the first midnight club this is a FASCINATING video and it's quite awesome. So many great memories with this game... just booting it up on a ps2 with one of the dopest street videos, you sir are a legend., Thank you!!!
I have the first MISCHIEF DVD still to this day, I found about it through my cousin Steve who worked for a graphic company named Speedesign. THE GOOD DAYS OF STREET RACING AND IMPORTS 🤟🏼
Knew most of the stuff thanks to me messaging him or researching stuff. Glad to see more and more video footage of it. I hope to replicate the car some day. Fell in love with it since I found out what it was in 05 when I first got MC:SR. Dustin, the few videos I did about your car already are my thanks to you for having it. I hope that you are gonna rebuilt it any time soon!
Amazing to hear all the backstories to these great childhood memories of spending hours watching these videos to get glimpses of the Rally cars, will never forget the first time seeing the red B5 S4 avant imported racing across USA in your video, spiked my love for Audi wagons until this day! You are absolutely right, social media killed rally car events. It is such a shame to note Gumball, Cannonball, Great American Run, BullRun, will never be what it was back in the mid 2000's. Its a shame to think not being old enough to drive at the time and missed out on the events. Would love to have you as my co-driver as i'm a 4 time veteran of Rally North America. If you'd like to document another Rally. More old footage and storytelling, Dustin. @MischiefTV
Man, that car literally created my childhood. Had fond memories of playing Midnight club and when I'm not playing I just stare at the cover. Looking at that car
I was really surprised that dustin was filipino and happy that a kababayan has made that big of an imprint in early tuning culture wow it makes me proud to say that. I hope to meet dustin oneday and also make and imprint in the stateside car culture oneday and follow my dreams like he did. 🇵🇭
I used to play that game and wantedto be these guys so badly 😂 growing up in the countryside in the uk all we have was ford Ka’s and Peugeot 106’s but we felt just as bad ass racing through Ipswich town centre 😆😂🤣 Another great story from my favourite UA-cam ✌🏼
Such a big part of my up bringing... I used to watch you guys on street fire in high school.. what a shame it was taken down... Literally UA-cam for just anything automotive
Wow Dustin you impacted my life in ways I had no clue. Midnight was the first OG race game and also the mischief videos. I’m 29 years old now, this video was a piece to the puzzle. I hope one day you have a 8 year old neighbor walk into ur garage and spark his brain to all the gold in that garage to continue the passion for cars. N thrill 😂
Magnus Walker did the same thing too. He fell in love in first sight with porsche, he wrote to Porsche themselves, they wrote back to him too. The only exception is he never gotten a catalogue of a 911...
Love that story. Reminds me of why I got a Evo X in a way. I grew up with only a Xbox 360 and 2 games. Modern Warfare 2 and Midnight Club LA Complete Edition. Since I never had live, I would usually play MCLA. I remember racing on of the AI and they had a Evo X, I was driving a 3000GT cause I thought that car looked fast but the Evo X looked nice. I sold the 3000GT and my other cars in the game and bought the Evo X in the game. A lot of years later and I just got my real life 2015 Lancer Evolution X GSR. I had so many opportunities to buy a Evo IX or VIII, WRX STi, Civic Type R, Mustang GT. But no, im gonna drive what my younger self wanted. And after many attempts with no responces and dealer markups though the roofs I found my 2015 Lancer GSR. I found my Evo X, and I love it just as much as I loved driving that Evo X in Midnight Club LA.
now this is a good story, I owned an MX-5 growing up and when i found out there was an MX-6 i was super interested. I always thought it was cool looking, i just never knew if it could perform. The fact that the car is on the cover of Midnight club, thats awesome. I remember that intro video so well. Its funny how close they shot the cars on the cover, so close you could never really identify the car make/models. I always figured it was a Mitsubishi Eclipse. Great video!
I have over 200 hours in midnight club for ps2:( I played capture the flag mode, and always pressed o to drift.. I miss that style of game, the newer ones for ps3 ruined what I remembered for ps2 :( probably one of my favorite moments in my life, I remembered the intro to midnight club by heart!!!
Listening to this while I play though Midnight Club LA again. There such good games, It’d be nice if rockstar would release another one even though I know it’s not gonna happen.
Now this was an amazing story. I get Midnight club right when the car bug bit me in middle school. When I was not doing schoolwork, I was Either playing midnight club, or watching The Fast And The Furious. I miss this era of car culture.
Omg It's so cool to see the owner!! I had this game as a kid and loved the cover, I wanted to be a stupid ricer teenager so badly haha I saw the video of him hiding the car and didn't make the connection.
A legend of street racing history right here. Great to see the story of this car captured.
thank you
I swear vinwiki has every car story. Im seriously sitting here going holy shit, thats the midnight club car! Its actually a real car!
Thanks again Ed! This is my 5th VINwiki story and my second favorite behind the Gumball 3000 story. After talking for a couple hours I started to lose my voice towards the end haha. I'm so happy to finally get around to talking about my Mazda. After watching the video, read below.

Teckademics Thursday should be a thing. High school / College was these videos, pulled from the internet on dial up.
thank you for existing, my childhood would have been completely different with the Mischeif series and Teckademics . i had all those magazines with your MX6 in it, wish i still had them
I always wondered what happened after you sent it off to be redone. Glad you got it back at least.
I watched that intro video hundreds of times as a kid and your car is one of the reasons I gained interest in imports. Your car let a kid’s imagination go wild.
Thanks for another amazing story!
Love to hear Dustins stories about the 2000's import/race scene.. Back when 300hp was concidered a legitimate threat..
MikesRandomCars 300hp was expected it wasn't a threat 500-700hp was the real threat and 800hp+ wasn't really around a lot and very few cars that raced on the street made that much
ian price i guess youre right, The point i was making is nowdays its way too crazy..
MikesRandomCars yeah now almost all cars have 800-1200hp although you can make that power fairly cheaply with a turbo ls it isn't uncommon to run into someone making 1500+hp
ian price you almost need a promod on the Streets to be sure youre gonna win, then you risk your 100-200k racecar if you get busted..
MikesRandomCars well that all depends on what you are racing if you are trying to race the street outlaws people then yes you do but if it's local people or most people it's just a 15-20k car not 100k+
Revive it man it's a piece of history you have no idea Midnight Club is what got me into cars in the first place.
I was always into cars at a young age, but Midnight Club definitely made me obsessed
Such a shame if this guy would show this car off today, there will be a bunch of uneducated kids calling it a ricer. Although there's so much rich history behind it...
The car was built 18yrs ago. Hoping to have it back on the road by next year.
If Dustin came out to an event and displayed all those mementos of the cars history people would hesitate to pass judgement. It’s more of a portal into the past than a ricer.
Its definitely rice. Back then rice was nice tho
Cyrus Lever rice still is nice as long as you do it right. This car is a good example of a nicer ricer
@@mischieftelevision you should add something to it to make people know it was the real Midnight Club car
“Growing up, I loved hair gel.”
Damn, I never knew that was his car. I remember when that game came out too. Played it a lot back then
Finally I know who owns that yellow coupe on the cover of the Game!
I can sleep in peace now
So cool to see Dustin on VINwiki. We need to reignite the Mischief franchise.
Thanks! Working on that now :)
MISCHIEF TV that's awesome, Glad to hear that!!
Do it!
@@mischieftelevision I collected your DVDs.. still got them. LoL

Midnight club is a such a awesome classic game. What a cool story behind the cover and inspiration
Midnight Club DUB Edition. I would play it on my ps2 with no memory card. I remember it like it was just yesterday.
This is awesome! That game was a part of my childhood. Now i can feel stupid, because i always thought that car was a 2G Eclipse 🤣🤣🤣
Doug Bedo same here ! And the black teggy turns out to be a Supra 🤯
ME TOO! my life is a lie!
Doug Bedo Well if it makes you feel any better...both were designed by the same guy. 😁

Southern Pimp I'm 16 and think it looks good, it's tasteful and not rice at all.
Dustin and dado have been my hero for almost 20 yrs!
I thought it was an Eclipse this entire time.
Same lol
Socky Noob I thought it was a Kouki S14
I knew it was a Mazda but didn’t knew what model it was

Infiniti GTI or Zenki S14
