      That’s what I hit the road with. It didn’t last lol. I had to learn how to seriously save $ that first year out as I was getting established working the rallies. In Sturgis one year I had to eat in a soup kitchen with the Lakota. Wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. You can learn it.

    It would be so awsome to see u running around on harleys pan America. Actually, you are the perfect person to be given a pan America. Joe, the insane guy that rode a 300cc ninja from north eat u.s.a. to Belize and back in a 1 year long trip. If there is anyone that would appreciate a capable and comfortable adventure bike it would be you. Harley would be smart to sponsor you and supply a bike to you.
    Ive got to say........I was extremely impressed with you. I could not believe someone would ride a ninja all the way to South America and back. Let alone a 300cc ninja. That was the craziest thing I've seen a vagabond do on UA-cam so far. Completely bat shit crazy. I loved it. I thought,....." here is a guy that obviously has had enough and is balls to the wall determined to do what he has planned to do.". It was awsome man.
    Thanks for everything Joe.

      Joe, when you decided to hit the road on a motorcycle, did you already have the ninja 300 ? If you didn't have the ninja 300 already and you went out and bought it to hit the road,, why did you choose that bike? That is one thing that has always had me confused about what you have going on. Why did you hit the road on a little ninja ? Did it just happen to be the bike you had? Did you also have a car or truck that you had to get ride of so you could take off on the bike ?

      Make a long story short- I paid $1 for that ninja. Never intended to hit the road or ride all the way to Guatemala and Belize- but once I started, I just sort of kept going!

    Hi 👋
    I’m a swedish ex BMW GSA rider , and I’ve just put a deposit on a 2015 ST 25 th Anniversary Edition here in Sweden.
    You did a great choice , and I’m fully aware that this bike doesn’t have a cruisecontrol , you don’t miss that ?
    I will buy a ”Brakeaway ” , a mechanical cruisecontrol , made in USA.
    I’ve subbed to your channel !
    Merry Christmas 🎄

    • @dirtymotorcyclevagabond
      @dirtymotorcyclevagabond  3 роки тому +1

      Cheers! Glad you found me 😎 The lack of cruise control is a little annoying on the highway, particularly with the tendency of the ST to vibrate. I've currently got a throttle assist velcro deal, which is ok. I'll look into this product you mentioned.
      Merry Christmas!!

    Joe my question is. How do you find your places to stay the night. From just riding around. From staying in a certain area before. Im looking into goin into a home free life style. I know alot of national parks, state parks etc offer free camping, primitive camping. I have a few years till all my debt is paid off. So im starting to do my fair of research into living a more minimal lifestyle. You make great videos. Im working on my own you tube channel. Old man rivers adventures. Thanks for the info.

    Great video man! I have a few questions if you have a little time to answer?
    1: Are they’re many jobs available at rallies for people who may not be so mechanically inclined? It’s not that I couldn’t do it, it’s just that I never have and I have no one to teach me? Could I get a traveling job say sewing patches onto vests? Or maybe cooking for a food vendor?
    2: What are some on the things you look for in a tent? Color? Size? 3 season or 4?
    3: What’s become an essential piece of gear/tool that you weren’t expecting to need but ended up using more than you thought?
    4: What’s the worst breakdown or setback you’ve encountered and how did you overcome?
    Thanks Joe! I’ve been interested in your story ever since I found you on scottys channel. I appreciate everything you do!

    • @dirtymotorcyclevagabond
      @dirtymotorcyclevagabond  3 роки тому +1

      Of course!
      1. Lots of jobs out there for just about anybody. The ones you just described, as well as setup/ tear down, bar-back, all kinds.
      2. Green or brown or camo is the gold standard, especially when doing steath camping. Look for one with aluminum poles.
      3. Military- style keyring can-opener. Absolutely an essential item that gets used more than anything.
      4. The worst breakdown occurred over the summer when my clutch slave went out, and was documented on the Ride to Sturgis P. 2 and Black Hills Breakdown. Absolute nightmare! Fortunately, my worst breakdowns have happened in such a way that I've been positioned not far from friends/ tools. Knocks wood.
      Thanks for the great questions!

    • @dirtymotorcyclevagabond
      @dirtymotorcyclevagabond  3 роки тому

      That's a tricky one... Well, one thing I didn't cover is packing up camp. This is essential daily if stealth camping, although on public land I kind of feel out the situation, and if I see a bunch of other people leaving nice tents and stuff set up, I'll usually leave it set up when I go to town, etc. Otherwise, everyday, everything is packed up and on the bike.

Or vote in a national election ??

  • @Jason-cm6uh
    @Jason-cm6uh 3 роки тому

    I would advise against the Adventure bike. They're tall (catching wind, cornering, etc.) top heavy, have many parts that can break, etc. I could go on but I won't. The type of bike you have is the most ideal. Maybe upgrade to a bigger motor. Torque is your friend, in this situation, not horsepower.
    Love your vids sir!

    If I wasn't raising a 9 year old daughter, shit that's going on in my life right now and I mean shit, hitting the road doesn't sound like a bad idea...

    Great video joe. What’s the longest you stealth camped in the same place.

      Thanks man! Probably about a month, packing up everyday. With those stealth spots, I try to have several within the same town and use them in rotation so I'm not constantly going in and out.

    I'm interested to know about how you keep yourself and your gear secure. No one seems to mention it (you and others I watch). As a non American, we have a likely distorted view due to to what we see on the news about gun crime, drugs and the craziness in SF with people just stealing stuff from shops without consequence. Yet you don't seem to lock your gear or discuss the risk of theft from your campsite. Have you had problems and how do you manage it?

      Probably true, the news has a tendency of painting an inaccurate portrait of reality. Certainly I found that to be the case once I'd started coming to Mexico. I can't speak to goings on in SF. When I was there last year, I saw none of this, but of course, I wasn't looking for it. I've seen a lot of apparent drug abuse in many, many places of the US which is unfortunate. The systems in many places are inherently flawed and unfortunately there is more money to be made in exacerbating these problems rather than fixing them. I've had no problems as yet, but do tend to use caution in sketchy circumstances to try to mitigate these risks, like packing everything up before leaving, and always being in sight of my camp.
