I know it's a vlogger thing, but it's always a hoot to watch the classic exterior shot of getting out of the tent in the morning when you were already out to set the camera.
When I was a kid I thought things on tv happened in real time in TV land. Blew my mind when I was watching a Star Trek re-run and my brother switched the channel to show Leonard Nimoy hosting some science show on local public tv. I spent a half hour flipping back between two channels trying to figure how Spock could be in two places at once. Eventually my brother explained taping and broadcasting to me.🤣🤣🤣

@@DorkintheRoad Yeah it helps everybody. I keep wondering if you're in Brown Bear country? Some people came in Grizzly country and never have a problem but most of them camp on the outskirts of bear country so they don't have a run in. Like you said you have to worry about people too I would think in a park that they would leave you alone but anxiety still exists. Haven't seen you fish yet! I would like to go for just a day in that river you said was 40 degrees on a hot day. You can get in and stay cool and fish whether you fly fish or use spinning gear. A soak in cold water fresh from a mountain would be feel good plus would keep your drinks cold.
I sincerely think the cigar is a great way to spend an evening camping. Especially a solo trip. Also, good on you for leaving all that wood for others.

I'm in Australia, came across your channel and I love it. Your so wright about the anxiety and bad thought moments when camping solo. Sometimes it's hard to control your mind. Iv actually packed up one night and rode 3 hours home due to my mind.
Enjoyed this immensely, and a definite yes to more camping videos. I appreciate your honesty about potential worries. I find a lot of common ground. I started a very low carb plan in 2009 for health reasons; celiac, too, so no beer for me. I’ve generally stuck to this with the occasional sweet potato or homemade gluten-free pizza. Good for you for making this work and your weight loss! I do this to stay healthy for riding and hiking and camping as long as possible as I’m already 61, and time is marching forward quickly. I enjoy good tequila, sipped, neat. bulleit bourbon, too. I’m not afraid of most solo activities these days. I think age and having thirty-something daughters (not worrying as much about leaving them without a mom - I was a single mom) have helped me get here. I camped 1 time last year and that number sucked. Finding open spots has been tricky. I work for the government agency that benefits financially from full campgrounds, hikers snd day users, so I can’t complain. I think my biggest challenge with all things motorcycle related is that none of my friends ride; the two who did have stopped. I would like to have the power to choose group or solo, but it’s just me. My boyfriend has a motorcycle, but rarely rides anymore. He’s wrapped up in home improvements and a huge yard in his spare time. Take care! Looking forward to your next trip. I’m going camping in 2 weeks.

Yeah, I hammock camp and between keeping a pad underneath (can be kinda like resting on a banana peel) and keeping a blanket / open sleeping bag on top (slips off and falls in the dirt EVERY time you shift) getting a good night's sleep can be tough. Integrating the pad into the bag means everything will be anchored in place once you get in. TYVM DITR!
Thanks for this. I've watched many of your later videos. I have even purchased gear from Moto Camp Nerd. I'm 57 and traded my 21 Road Glide in for a 24 Pan America. This week, I am heading out on my very first solo moto camp to Black Rock Mountain State Park , GA. The plan had been to go to the similarly named Black Mountain Campground in Pisgah National Forest in Western NC, but Helene interposed her vicious self and thwarted my plans. Prayers for all of those people in that area. So, I moved my adventure west into N. GA. It will be cold (low of 30, highs in the high 50s), but I do want to test myself. I will be camping in a dispersed campsite and have used the camp gear list to inform my outfit. Keep up this channel. It is great. I'm considering doing something similar but focusing on the more philosophical life lessons. It may be broader than just ADV motorcycling. I'm armed with a GoPro Hero 8 Black and a chin mount. Oh...I hope to fly fish nearby as well. So look for me in the future. Thank you.

Really enjoyed the discussion about anxiety while solo camping. I have the same feelings. Also really enjoyed that there was minimal music and no fancy drone shots. Lots of basic shots of a guy chillin around a fire, which made it feel very real. Great video. Looking forward to more.

Show more about routes and destinations, what was good what was not so good and what you would change i.e. "I would not go there again in Summer, too many people", or "found this really cool place, would be sensational in the fall with all the trees changing colour etc"... As Axel Rose once said: "Do you need some time on your own? Do you need some time all alone? Ooh, everybody needs some time on their own Ooh, don't you know you need some time all alone" Yes we do!
🥳 congrats. I am probably the worst moto camper for other riders😆 When solo, the inner ninja comes out, it's set up in the dark, pack up in the dark. If with others I'm up at day light and twiddling my thumbs. I don't need coffee or breakfast😆 If I know the other guys are into breakfast I'll get the fire going. Just waiting... To ride... I think the video is spot on, I'd say keep with the riding. I dig the bourbon and cigar it's who you are, the cooking is always a great idea to give people simple ideas. Gear is always a great topic to discuss as well, people will always be curious on what you're using including myself. I watch a lot of channels like corporals corner and primal outdoors great channels. You may get some ideas from them. I enjoy watching your videos and reviews of the bikes as well
I appreciated the honesty and your "talking thru" your anxieties of the quiet of the night [19:28] I have yet to do my own first solo - but this was influential and I will revisit this post [esp 18:35 - 19:22] and poke myself this spring to get out there and try this. While it is always interesting to see how moto campers prepare/ pack and set-up camp....... all and I I think you hit this one for me. No water, no electricity.... there were three other tenters but not within sight of each other. Damn that was fun. Thanks for the encouragement!!!!
I spend 40 to 50 nights a year out in the woods in all four seasons. I have a hard time relaxing at home and always feel like I should be working on something but when I'm out in the woods everything is exactly where it should be. However its presented to you nature is perfect in it's randomness and I can relax because it doesn't need to be fixed. As far as cigars go don't sweat it. Every cigar you smoke is just one more cigar that won't fall into the hands of a child! 😉
I do love being out in the woods away from cell phone service and everything else. I couldn't be productive even if I wanted to (except video making, of course), which forces me to relax. It's nice to get away.
Really enjoyed that it’s good to hear about the anxiety thing especially as I’m a 280lbs six five guy but you still think the worst could happen, too many scarey movies as a kid! You may allready have watched scooter tramp Scotty he is very inspirational with all this stuff he always says your biggest fear is fear itself!
Last November I drove from Mt. Saint Helens to Rainier (then back to Richland) and it was sunny and hot at Tipsoo Lake overlooking Rainier. Fast forward one week and I'm driving over the same pass on my way to Seattle and there's over a foot of snow and people sliding off the road. They shut down Chinook Pass later that day. Gotta love the PNW!
Hitting the road forever or until I find that place. Sixty one years old and I’ve raised my family and finished 2 careers. There’s so much of our beautiful country that I haven’t seen. Hopefully I’ll see you on the road.
I've only just had this video pop up in my feed, so a little late to the game I'm afraid. To answer a few questions: Having camped since I was 8 years old and ridden motorcycles since I was 17, at the age of 62 I am off on my first overnight moto-camp... tomorrow, it is just a shakedown run for an 8 day trip to Scotland and back (I'm in the UK) in September, while it is still warm and after all the schools go back. Noise at night: I have worn foam earplugs for years, both when staying in hotels on business and camping at shows and get togethers. What kind of camping video's? Stick to this format, it is different to other people I watch and it gave a really excellent feel for what being out in the wild, on your own is like... I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks very much.
Wife came and sat beside me while I was watching. I said I think I like this guy (I hate people). I told her about the seltzer bit. We drink seltzers as well and I don't care what ppl think. Also steak...were huge steak ppl. So as I told her you whipped out the cigar and I thought it was a vape thing so I immediately went "ah nevermind" but then saw it was a cigar. Just turned 40. Bought a klx250 off the showroom floor in 2020, decided it wasnt for me, bikes were too dangerous. So i sold it. Month later i started kicking myself so i bought a Honda crf250l just to go motocamping. Im pumped to learn and get outside. I dont have anyone to ride with so well see how it goes. Camping is badass! I go on solotrips often. In Sweden it is really easy to get a spot on campinggrounds with a tent. Have always got my meals on restaurants. This season I have bought a Trangiastove. It is a lot of stuff I have to buy to make my own meals. Looking forward to it. Happy camping to everyone 😀
I def like the camping trips. I do a lot of camping and dispersed camping, but also enjoy watching others do it. Now that you have done it, you know you can. Just start exploring. With all the public lands in OR, WA, ID, you have no shortage of places to camp. Just remember to be aware of areas you are camping in and practice good bear safety, for example in a lot of places I won't cook at my campsite. Enjoy and heck, maybe we will cross paths somewhere in the Oregon woods one of these days.
Dispersed camping is the bomb! My bucket this summer is discovering as many counties in Wyoming a possible. As an ex-Oregonian, the Cascades are awesome.
If I had to describe what I enjoy about camping videos, then I would point to two UA-cam channels as examples. Softroadingthewest is based out of Eugene, so he's another local, and his entire channel is about how exploring the outdoors doesn't need EXTREME gear and EXTREME challenges to see some extremely cool places around Oregon and have wonderful beautiful experiences. He had a Subaru Forester that he did some REALLY cool stuff with, but that got totalled by a driver running a red light. He's working on a Nissan Frontier truck build and, while I'm 0% passionate about French vehicles, I still watch for his perspective on things and his adventures. It's the adventure that grabs me. The places that he finds, the people he gets to meet, but most importantly the fun he gets to have. Camping videos, to me, are a chance to see good people having a good time and taking some smiles and motivation from it. The other channel is Kent Outdoors (pretty sure I got the name right here), and there is a lot of camping in England, with a lot of campfire cooking and primitive camping. The cooking is cool, don't get me wrong, but here it's the experiences that grab me. Lakes, coastlines, and there is even an old fort video that I haven't managed to watch yet. The cooking is just more new experiences. I have NEVER cooked on a rock before, but I'm certainly more excited to try it now than I used to be. Basically, I already watch your videos because they inspire me and because you make excellent content, plain and simple. If you want a special ingredient to elevate your camping stuff, then I would have to say that it just boils down to you having a good time and seeing some cool stuff. It's about the adventure (big or small) and, in the end, isn't everything that inspires us and captivates us about adventure of some sort?
To be honest, I thought I wouldn’t enjoy this content at all. But I really enjoy it. Love the puff, puffs and bourbon. Love the cooking, I enjoy all of it. The shots away looking at the campsite are cool. I am in the North Ga Mtns and have a DRZ400SM and a 2022 KLR. Haven’t been motocamping yet and I think I am overthinking it. These videos sure enough encouraging to me to just go! Oh I love the coffee making, that totally makes the trip whole! Thanks again, love the content.
Got a Honda Africa Twin last year and have taken several day trips across Nebraska, my home. Fun places: Ash Falls Fossil Beds, Car Hinge, etc. Anyway, I have a goal to ride around the perimeter of the US when I retire in a few years. To get ready, I plan to take a lot of weekend trips to some nearby parks. Your video has given me more courage and excitement about it. Thanks!!!
Little tricks and things you find out about your gear and how to get around them, it's raining, how do you cook and organise stuff in your tent so you don't get (too) wet..... The ride out, and in and all the crap bits really make for a relatable Video, and for those of us that don't have remote, quiet camping on our doorstep, it's a great insight 👌🏻, interesting about the Keto diet, you just gotta find what works for you 👌🏻💪🏻
I've been working on a motor camping plan for decades and it will finally come to fruition in early March. I did extensive backpacking so most of the gear I already had.
Are you me ? haha Love your videos man, I'm pretty much like you, a few years younger and without the video setup. I like that you are true and honest, seing you ''trying'' and sometimes make ''mistake'' is the part of the process that I enjoy the most. Continue to try gear, maybe ride with yours fans (not now for me, I'm in Québec!), seing you getting better and always do harder tricks.

You convince me to go solo dispersed camping. I've been moto-camping for the past 5 years in many State and National Park campgrounds, as well as some primitive campgrounds along the Appalachian Trail, but so far I haven't dare going dispersed. Though I thought a lot about it, I have been a bit of a chicken. My bike isn't a dual sport but capable on unpaved/gravel roads. My old R1150r Rockster is kited with SW Motech engine crash bars and handguard. I kind "G-S" it but without modifying the wheel base.. I plan a first dispersed camping next month in the Monongahela NF, about 2 hrs from my home in Northern Virginia. Keep the awesome videos coming. I enjoy very much

Brit biker here and just found your vids by chance and love the 'just-a-normal-bloke' thing...Gotta a tip for you...Free, fast, fire starters...Raid the bathroom supplies of cotton wool balls and Vaseline (petrolium jelly) then mush the balls up with some Vas. Keep them in a plastic bag. Then, when needed, stretch one greased-up cotton wool ball out in the fire pit and use a fire flint or match and that thing will catch first go and start up your twig kindling...Not my idea and there are plenty of tube vids...Safe rides and watch that fire season thingy !👍👍👍
I really enjoyed this one! I liked the fire through the front wheel shot and all of the different wide angles of the camp spot you took! I really enjoyed your reflections and advice on camping by yourself. I spent one night in the bivy sack with coyotes yipping all around me one night. I didn't sleep a ton that night. Dispersed camping is special. Campgrounds are loud and obnoxious. I find it incredibly hard to go back to camping in a tent in a campground but there are some places that just don't allow dispersed.

Cool video, snowing here today, hopefully in a couple weeks I get to do the same here. I like the tent, seems to have a lot of room and I am definitely going to check out the sleeping bag. I would love to make it thru a nite without sliding off the sleeping mat. I think the wild moto camping is a good idea. Anxiety is lessened with more people if it can be arranged, but solo camping is nice once in a while for that real thinking solitude one needs every so often. Like Ronny-DRZ said, pack some heat and then you need not to fear anything or anyone. Ol' Sam Colt made all us men equal a long time ago. Don't worry about the technical glitches, you are not alone, most everyone I watch is having technical issues all over the globe.
freaking no joke the campgrounds are booked up straight! My goal is 20 camp outs this year. Since my kids have gotten older it is a lot easier to take them and a lot easier for my husband to watch them if I want to go by myself. Only 20 because this summer I am doing the last classes in my nursing degree so I don't think I'll be out a lot till Sept. rolls around again.:)

cool sleeping bag idea. I ended up getting a pad that covered the entire floor of my 2 man tent. It works when 2up camping and also keeps a pad under me no matter how i rotate at sleep. It was just the easiest and most comfortable option for me.
This is great, thank you! I use dryer lint for fire starting. I keep a small ziplock packed with it. It sparks up very easily and it's a free, endless supply!! :)
I used want to laugh at my father back in the sixties for his "Scotch and Steak" diet. Now I'm in my sixties and after two years of KETO and substantial weight loss I started riding motorcycles. After a year plus of riding I'm going to take some trips this year and do some camping. Thank you for your videos and advice, I'll be bringing Scotch rather than Bourbon. 73, Mike
My first solo moto camp went NE up Oyster Creek Canyon to turn up the now vacated Oyster Trail. Dirt switchbacks easy for a TW200, dry but bumpy creek fords, and camped under a wood ramp. No hang-glides pilots running over me toward the sea breeze after sunset. No fire. Nursed a Oly' beer, laid back, glad to be out of a cold wind.. Coyotes howling up over by Oyster Dome.
Great camping vid. Love the puff puff and bourbon...keep at it. Corona seltzer sounds good. Have not done any camping like this but am very intrigued and inspired by your story. I’m in eastern Washington and am interested in BDR routes; I think camping along the routes would be cool. As you get out more and try new gear or see that your set up needs modifying, I love to hear about stuff like that. What works, what doesn’t and why. I love being outside, seing the backroads of Oregon and enjoying the vicarious thrill of motorcycling on top is choice. I do the pedal powered version or just hike in. Alaska has so many options for it.. ill never hit half the beautiful options. If you film it, ill watch it. No Joe robinet is planning to buy a bike for adventuring. Hopefully when he gets comfortable yall can get a trip going. Ive been watching him for ages, you mentioned him a video, the next i saw from him, he mentioned you. Hey thanks me and pretty wife have camped for years off our bike. Enjoying watching you camp. I always hear. DID YOU HEAR THAT? LOL that’s part of being in the back country. We did have four guys pull up in our camp at 2 am drunk. One kept getting on the bike wanting to ride it. They finally left she stayed in the tent. It was a little unnerving.
Good Job. Solo dispersed campin is the best. There is always things that go bump in the night in the woods but you'll get used to that ;) The snail was just checkin in to make sure you were doin ok.
To answer your question, I have done 2 Moto camping trips so far this year in British Columbia Canada. First one was super cold at -6C on Mar 13th. Plan for 2021 is to be out Moto camping at least twice per month till Oct. kinda stuck here in BC with border closed, but a great place to be stuck in !!! Haha. You have some awesome videos !! Cheers
Good video Ben, keep these up. It was all good actually. When my kids were still home we kind of wild camped I guess basically some. It wasn’t government land, but family owned land of ours. But was away from any facilities. Had to build fire and that kind of thing. I was prepared to wild camp last summer on my holiday but worked out I never did. Spent half my nights I was gone in hotels due to miserable weather. I’m going to try and get away this summer a couple times if I can to hopefully wild camp up north. Cheers.
I purchased the media mod as well and it has been the source of all my GoPro tech issues. It worked great for the first few videos then it didn’t 😡 Great looking sleep system! When I was a kid I thought things on tv happened in real time in TV land. Blew my mind when I was watching a Star Trek re-run and my brother switched the channel to show Leonard Nimoy hosting some science show on local public tv. I spent a half hour flipping back between two channels trying to figure how Spock could be in two places at once. Eventually my brother explained taping and broadcasting to me.🤣🤣🤣

@@DorkintheRoad Yeah it helps everybody. I keep wondering if you're in Brown Bear country? Some people came in Grizzly country and never have a problem but most of them camp on the outskirts of bear country so they don't have a run in. Like you said you have to worry about people too I would think in a park that they would leave you alone but anxiety still exists. Haven't seen you fish yet! I would like to go for just a day in that river you said was 40 degrees on a hot day. You can get in and stay cool and fish whether you fly fish or use spinning gear. A soak in cold water fresh from a mountain would be feel good plus would keep your drinks cold.
I sincerely think the cigar is a great way to spend an evening camping. Especially a solo trip. Also, good on you for leaving all that wood for others.

Enjoyed this immensely, and a definite yes to more camping videos. I appreciate your honesty about potential worries. I find a lot of common ground. I started a very low carb plan in 2009 for health reasons; celiac, too, so no beer for me. I’ve generally stuck to this with the occasional sweet potato or homemade gluten-free pizza. Good for you for making this work and your weight loss! I do this to stay healthy for riding and hiking and camping as long as possible as I’m already 61, and time is marching forward quickly. I enjoy good tequila, sipped, neat. bulleit bourbon, too. I’m not afraid of most solo activities these days. I think age and having thirty-something daughters (not worrying as much about leaving them without a mom - I was a single mom) have helped me get here. I camped 1 time last year and that number sucked. Finding open spots has been tricky. I work for the government agency that benefits financially from full campgrounds, hikers snd day users, so I can’t complain. I think my biggest challenge with all things motorcycle related is that none of my friends ride; the two who did have stopped. I would like to have the power to choose group or solo, but it’s just me. My boyfriend has a motorcycle, but rarely rides anymore. He’s wrapped up in home improvements and a huge yard in his spare time. Take care! Looking forward to your next trip. I’m going camping in 2 weeks.

Yeah, I hammock camp and between keeping a pad underneath (can be kinda like resting on a banana peel) and keeping a blanket / open sleeping bag on top (slips off and falls in the dirt EVERY time you shift) getting a good night's sleep can be tough. Integrating the pad into the bag means everything will be anchored in place once you get in. TYVM DITR!

Thanks for this. I've watched many of your later videos. I have even purchased gear from Moto Camp Nerd. I'm 57 and traded my 21 Road Glide in for a 24 Pan America. This week, I am heading out on my very first solo moto camp to Black Rock Mountain State Park , GA. The plan had been to go to the similarly named Black Mountain Campground in Pisgah National Forest in Western NC, but Helene interposed her vicious self and thwarted my plans. Prayers for all of those people in that area. So, I moved my adventure west into N. GA. It will be cold (low of 30, highs in the high 50s), but I do want to test myself. I will be camping in a dispersed campsite and have used the camp gear list to inform my outfit. Keep up this channel. It is great. I'm considering doing something similar but focusing on the more philosophical life lessons. It may be broader than just ADV motorcycling. I'm armed with a GoPro Hero 8 Black and a chin mount. Oh...I hope to fly fish nearby as well. So look for me in the future. Thank you.

Really enjoyed the discussion about anxiety while solo camping. I have the same feelings. Also really enjoyed that there was minimal music and no fancy drone shots. Lots of basic shots of a guy chillin around a fire, which made it feel very real. Great video. Looking forward to more.

Show more about routes and destinations, what was good what was not so good and what you would change i.e. "I would not go there again in Summer, too many people", or "found this really cool place, would be sensational in the fall with all the trees changing colour etc"... I think the video is spot on, I'd say keep with the riding. I dig the bourbon and cigar it's who you are, the cooking is always a great idea to give people simple ideas. Gear is always a great topic to discuss as well, people will always be curious on what you're using including myself. I watch a lot of channels like corporals corner and primal outdoors great channels. You may get some ideas from them. I enjoy watching your videos and reviews of the bikes as well
I appreciated the honesty and your "talking thru" your anxieties of the quiet of the night [19:28] I have yet to do my own first solo - but this was influential and I will revisit this post [esp 18:35 - 19:22] and poke myself this spring to get out there and try this. While it is always interesting to see how moto campers prepare/ pack and set-up camp....... all and I I think you hit this one for me. The value here was the honesty of your story about accepting the challenge and the rewards for doing so. Well done and thanks!!

I spend 40 to 50 nights a year out in the woods in all four seasons. I have a hard time relaxing at home and always feel like I should be working on something but when I'm out in the woods everything is exactly where it should be. However its presented to you nature is perfect in it's randomness and I can relax because it doesn't need to be fixed.
As far as cigars go don't sweat it. Every cigar you smoke is just one more cigar that won't fall into the hands of a child! 😉
I do love being out in the woods away from cell phone service and everything else. I couldn't be productive even if I wanted to (except video making, of course), which forces me to relax. It's nice to get away.
Really enjoyed that it’s good to hear about the anxiety thing especially as I’m a 280lbs six five guy but you still think the worst could happen, too many scarey movies as a kid! You may allready have watched scooter tramp Scotty he is very inspirational with all this stuff he always says your biggest fear is fear itself!

Last November I drove from Mt. Saint Helens to Rainier (then back to Richland) and it was sunny and hot at Tipsoo Lake overlooking Rainier. Fast forward one week and I'm driving over the same pass on my way to Seattle and there's over a foot of snow and people sliding off the road. They shut down Chinook Pass later that day. Gotta love the PNW!
Hitting the road forever or until I find that place. Sixty one years old and I’ve raised my family and finished 2 careers. There’s so much of our beautiful country that I haven’t seen. Hopefully I’ll see you on the road.
I've only just had this video pop up in my feed, so a little late to the game I'm afraid. To answer a few questions: Having camped since I was 8 years old and ridden motorcycles since I was 17, at the age of 62 I am off on my first overnight moto-camp... tomorrow, it is just a shakedown run for an 8 day trip to Scotland and back (I'm in the UK) in September, while it is still warm and after all the schools go back. Noise at night: I have worn foam earplugs for years, both when staying in hotels on business and camping at shows and get togethers. What kind of camping video's? Stick to this format, it is different to other people I watch and it gave a really excellent feel for what being out in the wild, on your own is like... I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks very much.
Wife came and sat beside me while I was watching. I said I think I like this guy (I hate people). I told her about the seltzer bit. We drink seltzers as well and I don't care what ppl think. Also steak...were huge steak ppl. So as I told her you whipped out the cigar and I thought it was a vape thing so I immediately went "ah nevermind" but then saw it was a cigar. Also love a nice cigar! Then out came the bourbon and turns out it's what I drink too lol. We just looked at each other like what are the chances lol. Good content. Funny fella. Subscribed. Be safe.

Just turned 40. Bought a klx250 off the showroom floor in 2020, decided it wasnt for me, bikes were too dangerous. So i sold it. Month later i started kicking myself so i bought a Honda crf250l just to go motocamping. Im pumped to learn and get outside. I dont have anyone to ride with so well see how it goes. Camping is badass! I go on solotrips often. In Sweden it is really easy to get a spot on campinggrounds with a tent. Have always got my meals on restaurants. This season I have bought a Trangiastove. It is a lot of stuff I have to buy to make my own meals.

I def like the camping trips. I do a lot of camping and dispersed camping, but also enjoy watching others do it. Now that you have done it, you know you can. Just start exploring. With all the public lands in OR, WA, ID, you have no shortage of places to camp. Just remember to be aware of areas you are camping in and practice good bear safety, for example in a lot of places I won't cook at my campsite. Enjoy and heck, maybe we will cross paths somewhere in the Oregon woods one of these days.

Dispersed camping is the bomb! My bucket this summer is discovering as many counties in Wyoming a possible. As an ex-Oregonian, the Cascades are awesome.
If I had to describe what I enjoy about camping videos, then I would point to two UA-cam channels as examples.
Softroadingthewest is based out of Eugene, so he's another local, and his entire channel is about how exploring the outdoors doesn't need EXTREME gear and EXTREME challenges to see some extremely cool places around Oregon and have wonderful beautiful experiences. He had a Subaru Forester that he did some REALLY cool stuff with, but that got totalled by a driver running a red light. He's working on a Nissan Frontier truck build and, while I'm 0% passionate about French vehicles, I still watch for his perspective on things and his adventures. It's the adventure that grabs me. The places that he finds, the people he gets to meet, but most importantly the fun he gets to have. Camping videos, to me, are a chance to see good people having a good time and taking some smiles and motivation from it.
The other channel is Kent Outdoors (pretty sure I got the name right here), and there is a lot of camping in England, with a lot of campfire cooking and primitive camping. The cooking is cool, don't get me wrong, but here it's the experiences that grab me. Lakes, coastlines, and there is even an old fort video that I haven't managed to watch yet. The cooking is just more new experiences. I have NEVER cooked on a rock before, but I'm certainly more excited to try it now than I used to be.
Basically, I already watch your videos because they inspire me and because you make excellent content, plain and simple. If you want a special ingredient to elevate your camping stuff, then I would have to say that it just boils down to you having a good time and seeing some cool stuff. It's about the adventure (big or small) and, in the end, isn't everything that inspires us and captivates us about adventure of some sort?
To be honest, I thought I wouldn’t enjoy this content at all. But I really enjoy it. Love the puff, puffs and bourbon. Love the cooking, I enjoy all of it. The shots away looking at the campsite are cool.
I am in the North Ga Mtns and have a DRZ400SM and a 2022 KLR. Haven’t been motocamping yet and I think I am overthinking it. These videos sure enough encouraging to me to just go!

Got a Honda Africa Twin last year and have taken several day trips across Nebraska, my home. Fun places: Ash Falls Fossil Beds, Car Hinge, etc. Anyway, I have a goal to ride around the perimeter of the US when I retire in a few years. To get ready, I plan to take a lot of weekend trips to some nearby parks. Your video has given me more courage and excitement about it. Thanks!!!
Little tricks and things you find out about your gear and how to get around them, it's raining, how do you cook and organise stuff in your tent so you don't get (too) wet..... The ride out, and in and all the crap bits really make for a relatable Video, and for those of us that don't have remote, quiet camping on our doorstep, it's a great insight 👌🏻, interesting about the Keto diet, you just gotta find what works for you 👌🏻💪🏻

You convince me to go solo dispersed camping. I've been moto-camping for the past 5 years in many State and National Park campgrounds, as well as some primitive campgrounds along the Appalachian Trail, but so far I haven't dare going dispersed. Though I thought a lot about it, I have been a bit of a chicken. My bike isn't a dual sport but capable on unpaved/gravel roads. My old R1150r Rockster is kited with SW Motech engine crash bars and handguard. I kind "G-S" it but without modifying the wheel base.. I plan a first dispersed camping next month in the Monongahela NF, about 2 hrs from my home in Northern Virginia.

Brit biker here and just found your vids by chance and love the 'just-a-normal-bloke' thing...Gotta a tip for you...Free, fast, fire starters...Raid the bathroom supplies of cotton wool balls and Vaseline (petrolium jelly) then mush the balls up with some Vas. Keep them in a plastic bag. Then, when needed, stretch one greased-up cotton wool ball out in the fire pit and use a fire flint or match and that thing will catch first go and start up your twig kindling...Not my idea and there are plenty of tube vids...Safe rides and watch that fire season thingy !👍👍👍

I really enjoyed this one! I liked the fire through the front wheel shot and all of the different wide angles of the camp spot you took! I really enjoyed your reflections and advice on camping by yourself. I spent one night in the bivy sack with coyotes yipping all around me one night. I didn't sleep a ton that night.
Dispersed camping is special. Campgrounds are loud and obnoxious. I find it incredibly hard to go back to camping in a tent in a campground but there are some places that just don't allow dispersed.
Kinda feel like a burrito snack for Bigfoot in just a bivy sack!

I'm living my moto camping through you now and am happy trundling around on my crf Rally and returning home each day. Regards from Scotland. Cool video, snowing here today, hopefully in a couple weeks I get to do the same here. I like the tent, seems to have a lot of room and I am definitely going to check out the sleeping bag. I would love to make it thru a nite without sliding off the sleeping mat. I think the wild moto camping is a good idea. Anxiety is lessened with more people if it can be arranged, but solo camping is nice once in a while for that real thinking solitude one needs every so often. Like Ronny-DRZ said, pack some heat and then you need not to fear anything or anyone. Ol' Sam Colt made all us men equal a long time ago. Don't worry about the technical glitches, you are not alone, most everyone I watch is having technical issues all over the globe.
Definitely give that bag a look. It's pretty expensive but I'm very impressed with it
freaking no joke the campgrounds are booked up straight! My goal is 20 camp outs this year. Since my kids have gotten older it is a lot easier to take them and a lot easier for my husband to watch them if I want to go by myself. Only 20 because this summer I am doing the last classes in my nursing degree so I don't think I'll be out a lot till Sept. rolls around again.:)

cool sleeping bag idea. I ended up getting a pad that covered the entire floor of my 2 man tent. It works when 2up camping and also keeps a pad under me no matter how i rotate at sleep. It was just the easiest and most comfortable option for me.

I used want to laugh at my father back in the sixties for his "Scotch and Steak" diet. Now I'm in my sixties and after two years of KETO and substantial weight loss I started riding motorcycles. After a year plus of riding I'm going to take some trips this year and do some camping.

My first solo moto camp went NE up Oyster Creek Canyon to turn up the now vacated Oyster Trail.
Dirt switchbacks easy for a TW200, dry but bumpy creek fords, and camped under a wood ramp.
No hang-glides pilots running over me toward the sea breeze after sunset. No fire. Nursed a Oly'
beer, laid back, glad to be out of a cold wind.. Coyotes howling up over by Oyster Dome.

I don't drink or smoke myself but camping is about chilling and relaxing. Just do you. This is what going out and doing this is all about. Love the videos and keep them coming. I'm doing the AZ and UT BDR in a month due to videos like this. Can't wait to head out and enjoy the nature!

I love being outside, seing the backroads of Oregon and enjoying the vicarious thrill of motorcycling on top is choice. I do the pedal powered version or just hike in. Alaska has so many options for it.. ill never hit half the beautiful options. If you film it, ill watch it. No Joe robinet is planning to buy a bike for adventuring. Hopefully when he gets comfortable yall can get a trip going. Ive been watching him for ages, you mentioned him a video, the next i saw from him, he mentioned you. Hey thanks me and pretty wife have camped for years off our bike. Enjoying watching you camp. I always hear. DID YOU HEAR THAT? LOL that’s part of being in the back country. We did have four guys pull up in our camp at 2 am drunk. One kept getting on the bike wanting to ride it. They finally left she stayed in the tent. It was a little unnerving.

To answer your question, I have done 2 Moto camping trips so far this year in British Columbia Canada. First one was super cold at -6C on Mar 13th.
Plan for 2021 is to be out Moto camping at least twice per month till Oct.
kinda stuck here in BC with border closed, but a great place to be stuck in !!! Haha.

Good video Ben, keep these up. It was all good actually. When my kids were still home we kind of wild camped I guess basically some. It wasn’t government land, but family owned land of ours. But was away from any facilities. Had to build fire and that kind of thing. I was prepared to wild camp last summer on my holiday but worked out I never did. Spent half my nights I was gone in hotels due to miserable weather. I’m going to try and get away this summer a couple times if I can to hopefully wild camp up north. Cheers.
I purchased the media mod as well and it has been the source of all my GoPro tech issues. It worked great for the first few videos then it didn’t 😡

The solo nighttime anxiety can get to a person and can take a bit to overcome. For me, I sleep with my teddy and by teddy I mean machete 😜

Anxiety. Remember keep your fuel tank topped up! When you are running Low do something that makes you all secure and happy... and You Tank is topped up!
