DMV: The Beautiful & Unusual Ride to Red Lodge, Montana - Solo Motorcycle Camping
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- In this video, I ride from Deadwood, SD to the beautiful town of Red Lodge, Montana. Along the way I journey across vast Native American reservations, swimming, hiking, and hunting up some unusual fare before climbing into the foothills of the Rockies. From there, I make my way into the town of Red Lodge, where I stop by the ranger station and make camp in the wilderness.

Use the bug to catch a fish.
Big sky country
Who were you camping with, was that Scotty's bike in the back ground at the end of another great video.
Is it a cotton wood 🪵
👍
Enjoyable as always Joe, Looks like I'm leaving Fla. and heading back to Ohio,2 years of R&R was enough ! lol Hey if you ever come back through Ohio let me know and I'll hook you up with that Terita's Pizza we talked about a few months back. Take care buddy.
Yessir! I’ve still got that place marked on my map man! 😅
Tree in question looked alot like an old cottonwood. Especially the leaves.
Fishing line and la few various hooks & spoons with those grasshoppers could yield the VG a good dinner.👍👊✌️
👍
Lol
another good video. Thanks Joe for taking us all along.🏍️✌🏻
Anytime bro! 😎
If it’s Thursday, it’s time for another DMV episode!
That’s what I do! 😎
Grasshoppers can carry tapeworms. You pull the head and the entrails is right.
Yeah, I made sure to toast them extremely well also. Probably sacrificed in flavor, but I didn’t wanna take any chances!
You will eat the bugs and own nothing and be happy the rabbit look more yummy
Lol
And the Souix
Grasshoppers help to spread tapeworms. So watch yourself.
👍
If my history is correct I believe Sitting Bull told his people ,Do not take anything from the Soldiers because in his vision he seen a plague upon his people if they did so. They did anyway and of course we know how it all turned out. But yes Custer was indeed his own worst enemy.
❤️
Soldiers carried single shot trapdoor type rifles. Indians carries Henry repeating lever action rifles. Funny how the "savages" had the high tech and the soldiers didn't.
Hey joe you still working on that book haven't heard you mention it lately
It's slow going, but still plugging aeway at it. Hope to have it out next year sometime.
Maybe some Ramen noodles to go with them hoppers.
Oh yeah!
What was the name of the organized campground near your campsite?
I believe that was the Basin Campground
That rabbit woulda made a good meal
Parasites in those bugs hope you get them hot. Great video Joe been watching from the beginning.
Thanks dude! Yeah I made sure to toast em nice and crispy lol
Joe, you had a short video a few days ago about needing a place to work on your bike. What was up with your bike?
Yeah, sounds like the cam chain tensioner is going out again. I was able to get a ride back to Sturgis in the back of a friend's schoolbus. Currently waiting on a part...
Ahh, you DID take 212! Maybe next year....
Yup 👍
Did you get your bike fixed yet??
Back in Sturgis, waiting on a part for it
I just did this ride over the 4th of July week. It was just spectacular!!!! Glad you got to experience it. It was also a great break from the Oklahoma heat. The top of Beartooth Pass was 34 degrees.
Wow!
I’ve always heard Thomson Falls. Montana is a great place to visit.
Hey Joe were you able to get your bike fixed?
Made it back to Sturgis, waiting on another cam chain tensioner...
@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond glad you made it back to sturgis…that sucks the new tensioner you just put in crapped out
Ready for the new world Joe.. eating bugs..
Didn't you have some recent bike problems in Billings?
Yeah, I’m getting to that lol 😂 long story short, I found a lift back to Sturgis. Currently waiting on a part
Great video! I enjoyed it as always.
Glad you enjoyed it 😎
Bears really like steak 😂
Right!
Forget the grasshoppers take the Cottontail
What were the bike problems you were having?
Sounds like the cam chain tensioner went out again
Talked to Sid, said you were back in camp 5 waiting for parts. It Rogue, the guy with the X300 kawasaki versys you rode. Brought you some sauce and cleaning soap pads. Bought a 2023 Moto Guzzi V7 Stone limited edition on the way back to New Mexico via Reno, NV. Left the X300 at a friend's and drove the Guzzi home. Got to love shaft drive.
Maybe I'll see you before winter. Good luck with everything. Watching you catching grasshoppers is hilarious. But they are good. How did the soap pads work out for you?
Cool man! Yeah, waiting on another cam chain tensioner... Love those soap pads lol
Joe; Good video except for the grasshoppers!!!!!!!!!!! Red Lodge is an awesome town in the summer!! God Bless safe ridin rubber down
👍
The grasshopper played all summer then went to Phillipines.haha I don't think that was Matt's route was it.
🤣
Excellent video. The Rocky Mountain foothills and connecting road to Red Lodge were spectacular. Awe striking area of the country. For me flagging some points of interest on Google Maps during the video adds a dimension to the video. The last short video I watched of yours pertained to your bike. Hopefully, things are straightened out with it. As always I enjoy watching your videos.
Thanks man! I made it back to Sturgis, currently awaiting a new cam chain tensioner.
You do such a good job with your videos. So jelly. Lmao @ like a hairdryer 😅
Thanks so much! ✌️
Looks like you scored a new tent. Nice. I can’t wait to get back on the road for a couple weeks. Happy travels
👍
You need your Popiel’s pocket fisherman;) Great video! Thanks !
I'll check into that!!
@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond I think Popeil’s is a vintage product (they may still make them or an eBay thing) but there were other pocket fishermen rods on Amazon (of course I looked them up when I thought of Popeil’s:) Your videos are addicting making me want to do the same at the age of 73. Take care and be safe in your travels.
Another Goodie, Joe. I spent the night in Red Lodge about 6 weeks ago on one of my travels. For you fellow riders out there, I stayed at The Yodeler Inn just at the end of town. Great place, highly recommend it - they have rooms that have two separate bedrooms that share a bathroom - pretty cool layout. I wanna say the room was like $135 on a weekday.
Cool 😎
Sounds more like the Chateau Rouge Motel.
Nope, it was the Yodeler Motel
Awesome! I never see my town on UA-cam lol. Well, wnyway. I home you enjoyed my home. 🙂
Cool! Which town is yours?
Hell Nope!
Crickets, I watched video at dinner time, big mistake
🤣
@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond thanks Joe🤮
Nice video. How did the suspension updates do on the dirt since this was the first time i think you've been on it since the upgrade?
Suspension is doing great man. Made all the difference.
Lets goooooo!!!! Almost 10k Subscribers. Keep sharing your travels, truly enjoy the content. Thank you!
Getting there!
Great video Joe, hopefully next time I visit Montana, I will be able to spend more time exploring all those towns👏😁
Thanks man! You should! ✌️
Beauty episode Joe.Ya, Custer found the sharp end of the stick all right.
Thanks man! Yes he did
You should educate yourself on making a snare and other small game, low cost, traps. Saw the rabbit and thought of it. Good video Joe. Very entertaining
Definitely!
Ahhhhh, fried grasshopper. Flashbacks to those trips thru Southeast Asia. Love Red Lodge. Great video my friend.
Absolutely! 😅
Beautiful country out there. Stay safe heading to Biketoberfest. See you there.
I’ll be there!
Very cool video beautiful scenery thanks for sharing
Thank you!
You never cease to knock it out of the park. Another great video. Thanks, Joe. Safe Travels....from Arizona!
Thanks so much man! Cheers
Hi Joe! That is a Cottonwood tree. You'll find them in the Plains. The wood is very soft, so they can survive in drought prone areas.
Cool!
Nice video Joe but not sure on your choice of a meal with grasshoppers
Thanks man! Lol 😅
Don't you carry a fishing hook and line?
I probably should, but I don't
sent some doe for better cooking
Merci mon frére! Much appreciated, hope you’re doing well! ✌️
Dear Joe,I am from Montana and i always enjoy, people who visit, and get a kick out of the "Big Sky Country"....

Hahaha np Tom 😎
Thanks Joe! I'll be out that way in about 4 days, might follow your route.
Cool! 😎
Hay Joe. Tanks 4 taking us with you. I was out that way back in 96. Like you, by myself on a 93 Honda XR650L. Was at the KOA at Devils tower. And wanted to go north but money got short. Took my time driving back to NJ. Now I'm at Tappahannock VA for good. 65 now and sorry 2 say, don't ride much anymore. So thanks 4 showing me the sights and you take care and watch your 6.....
My pleasure bro 👍
Loving your videos thinking of coming for a holiday around that part of the world but it's a long way from new Zealand be great to get to meet you put it on the bucket list lol 😆

Yeah it was definitely chilly lol
Cool ride . I will keep that place in mind. Thanks

Good video Joe, thanks for making them and sharing with us.
Anytime bro 😎

❤️
That rabbit would be good for supper
There’s a certain time of the year you’re not supposed to eat them im told
✌🏼🏍️😁
😎👍
How's the bike???
Hanging in there. I met up with a buddy with a school bus who gave me a ride back to Sturgis. Here waiting on a part
Good video Joe, beautiful scenery in Montana, hope you get your bike fixed soon 😊
Wow! Grasshoppers are on the menu! 😂
👍
Good one Joe. Some nice miles there.! Hasta luego!
Thanks dude! ✌️
Great video Man!
Appreciate it!
Joe you really should carry a small, telescoping fishing rod/reel with you. Missing out on tons of opportunities of free meals. Quite a lot of your vids usually feature some sort of body of water, you really should make the most of that. Those rod/reels are tiny nowadays. I keep one in my glovebox of my car. Only other things you would need are a small cutting board and a filet knife with a descaler on it. Just a thought.
I need to look into something like that. Only thing is, then you got fishing licenses to consider...
@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond shoot, brainfart man. I didn't even think about that. I'm gonna look up what the state and fed laws are. There very well may be some loopholes. Let ya know what I find out.
Had to skip the bug part 🤣🤢
👍
Nice headphones!!!
Haha thanks bro! ✌️
Eastern Cottonwood
👍
Interesting. How come no services on Indian land. I expect they were not settled by the invaders
They're there, but sometimes really spread out
I crossed the Crow Creek Indian Res. with no extra gas in my gas bottles. I'll NEVER do that again. Had to cut to the Interstate and rolled into the first gas station on fumes.
Grats on 200 vids sir!
Thanks dude!
Cottonwood!
👍
Nice video as usual. The grasshopper dinner was interesting and informative. But, maybe use the grasshoppers to catch a trout? :)
Shoulda had some fishing tackle
@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond A simple fly rod could have brought you great joy and inner peace, and moved you one small step up the food chain. :)
Yeah, but then you got fishing licenses to consider... I want to do it tho
@@dirtymotorcyclevagabond with the permits and equipment, I always remind my wife that the trout I catch are more valuable than lobster.
That might not fit in to your low budget lifestyle. I guess I hadn’t really thought this through. :)
🤘😎🤘
c0tt0nw00d?
To a bear, coming across a human in a sleeping bag, is like finding a soft taco in the wild. 😉🙀
