I walked with no pain the same day as surgery, walked to my car, walked in my house. Gad to stop myself from vacuuming the next day. Figured it might be not the thing to do.
Surgery itself makes you tired and kind of weak. But I got stronger as days went on. I walked into the doctors office at the hospital one weak later with ease. Never had hip pain after surgery.
Surgery went well in May. Recovery was a bit harder than imagined. I shattered my ankle 2 yrs ago and thought hip replacement would be so much easier. Still working on strengthening muscles in my leg & hip, progressing very well now.
! Did you have your hip replacement? I hope things went well. I didn’t fall, I was only making up my bed and turned or twisted a bit and heard a ‘Pop’ and felt immense pain. Standing on just one leg, couldn’t move, paramedics responded and wrapped me up in my sheet to take me to the ER. X-rays confirmed what needed to be done. Of course there was no other choice. Post op, I’ve still having physical therapy and it has been helpful but I’m cautious. I hope you are doing well and send you best regards.❤
As a follow-up to my post below, I had the Anterior Hip Replacement surgery at the end of May. I'm happy to report that after a little more than 14 weeks later, I'm completely pain free and I'm back playing doubles tennis 2-3x per week, and riding my bike 6.5 miles several times a week. Also, I can bend over to tie my shoes and can get in and out of the car without any problems. The most important advice I can offer is to be sure to do strengthening exercises 4-5 weeks BEFORE surgery, and to follow your surgeon's & physical therapist's instructions to the letter AFTER. The stronger you can become in your hip, thigh, glute and lower back area, the easier and faster your recovery will be. There are many excellent YT videos that show how to do these pre-surgery and post-surgery exercises. Good luck to those having the THR surgery.
Not a problem at all. I started tennis at an early age, too, so I'm sure that contributed to my hip issues. But now, post-surgery, I play doubles tennis on clay courts 2-3 times a week, and on the off days I either play Pickleball or ride my bike. No problems in the hip whatsoever. To be sure, I still do my strengthening and stretching exercises just as I did preparing before the surgery, and it's important that you keep up that regimen post-surgery. I was also very fortunate to have one of the most talented and experienced surgeons there is specializing in THR. Within one hour of waking up from the surgery, they had me out of bed and walking up and down the hospital corridors with the aid of a walker. In-home physical therapy started the very next day. Do your research, ask a lot of questions, and I pray that all of you experience the same results I did from my THR. Please let me know if you all have any more questions. @@rjb7569

I had both hips replaced, left in April 21 and right in April 22, not caused by arthritis, blood supply to ball joint had stopped, bone died , bits broke off and arthritis moved in, walking was painful, by the time I had my left hip done I could just about walk a mile or so with walking sticks, my dog wasn't happy! I ended up sleeping on the couch as too painful in bed, tried several new mattresses to no avail. I found that taking Glucosamine and Green lipped mussel helped with pain, I didn't know how well until I had to stop taking them 2 weeks before surgery, 1st week no difference, 2nd week I was in agony. My right hip replacement healed well, no pain from surgery only a dull ache, I was up and walking as soon as allowed to, on the other hand my left hip was agony, pain was off the charts, so bad I thought it had been done wrong, it took more than 2 years to heal, got rid of my walking stick in January 24 and now back to walking 8 miles per day at my normal 4mph pace [age 70]
Hi Matthew. I have the same problem. My hip was dislocated at birth too. I have had 3 surgeries before. I’m 44 years old now and I feel much pain in my right hip. I am not ready for hip replacement mentally and I have too much stress. Can you please share your hip surgery experience if you have done it?
my 75 year old mother has all these signs, cant walk, cant put her leg fully on the floor, having to rely on morphine, joint clicking terribly. she finally had a two week stay in hospital and they said the joint has deteriorated. Trying to get anyone to take her seriously in the NHS is currently impossible
I feel for your Mom. I’m 60 and have all 7 symptoms. I had a full double hip replacement in 2014. Now I’m having the same pain I did before my hip replacement.
I only have trouble with a couple of these but have trouble with a couple other movements- I have trouble sitting, especially crossing my legs sitting I have trouble sleeping and getting comfortable I don’t have trouble walking at all But the pain otherwise moves from groin to thigh to hamstring . I can’t lie on my right side without pain. This was my original pain about a year ago. I am 73, very fit. I ran pretty regularly til I stopped at 70. Nothing hurt then but now my right hip! 😥 Making an appt with an orthopedist
I had SI joint fusion 6 months ago. The product is called IFuse (look it up). I suffered for 7 years before they figured it out. Look for a surgeon that has done a lot of these surgeries. God Bless. I know it’s painful!😂
Left hip Oct 2022. Right hip Aug 2023. I had all 7 signs but number 6. Now I have number 6 after the Aug 2023 surgery but I should recover that soon I pray (my wife is 22 yrs younger). But all in all excellent choice. No sense not getting total hip replacement(s).
Very clear and concise. Im trying to avoid surgery, but I have all 7 signs to som3 degree and Im miserable. Although walking sometimes doesnt cause pain. Im a nurse and walk for 6 hrs at a time. I guess surgery is in the near future.
Don't avoid the surgery, I had mine done at the end of August and I'm so sorry that I waited. What a life changer!!! I dealt with the pain for 6 years. Won't do that with the other hip when it's time.
I have always avoided sitting on chairs. I lounge on a sofa unless up and about. I have read that sitting on chairs is also bad for blood circulation to legs.
I drive a manual car and I find my left ball joint locks up I have got to get out of the car and walk around for a bit, or get out of bed it will lock up, I find when I sit it is painful
I have most of them signs, they are recently getting worse but it's not just my hips, it's my knees and feet as well but the drs are not listening to me so I am now just waiting until the day I can't walk and the tell me that I actually need help so I can say I told you I did. They dismiss people for so long claiming covid all the time
Just had my right hip replaced two weeks ago. Already walking around with no crutches! I did strengthening exercises before the op and you really need it, especially upper body core strength. I am due for the left hip in 6 weeks time, which is not nearly so bad (the right one was agony before), but I know how fast the bad one went from tolerable to sheer torture. I am so fortunate I can pay for this. (I have never gone private before.) On the NHS, I have not even received my first appointment. I'm so sorry for those who have to suffer for so long 😢. Get on the list!
I have six of the seven signs. But there’s one I thought that I would hear and didn’t. My hip gives out on me quite frequently if I try to step to the side on that hip side, small or large, it gives out. Where it gives out or where I feel the pain, when it does that is right in the groin area. Any comments would be great. Thank you.
What about if I have these signs/symptoms intermittently but then other times I can function? Sometimes I have Episodes in which I'm completely incapacitated, can't walk at all, hurts like heck, can't even comprehend the idea of bending over to put shoes or socks on...that can go on for a week or so...other times I can walk (not pivot - if I do that on my bad leg it can send me into an Episode), swim, put shoes on etc...? I have bone-on-bone, labral tear, subchondral cysts...not sure what I should do
so i have 2, maybe 2.5 cant sleep, trouble with sox. i can get in and out of car, but i swing my legs to do it. i have adjusted,, but not painful.. that is why i say a half. sleep is the killer one.. I can put on my socks, because my flexion is ok.. Just my external rotation.. So i just adjust there also.. so what do i do
I'm 65 have all 7. Advanced OA in both. #6 not for sex but not able to have pap test which I've needed for a long time. Can't climb stairs or step upon a curb. Have to recline seat and lay down to get in car. Use a wheel walker in public, a two front wheeler indoors and a leg lifter with stirrup to get in bed. Can stand for only 1-2 min. In pain over 10 yrs. Take OTCs daily. Recv'd Rx for Tramadol, Meloxicam, Gabapentin and Hydrocodone Acetaminophen (NORCO). All were 'shirt button' medications - worthless, did nothing. No relief. Use sock & shoe assistant devices and grab-it sticks. Retired a few weeks ago and live alone. Not responsible for pet but live alone. No family. Know I need the surgery but am concerned about recovery. I'm in the USA and worried they'll want to release me from the hospital next day. Live on 3rd floor. Shoebox apartment. I'm frightened but I do need the surgery. Excellent video. Haven't seen one like this listing indications of necessity. Thank You.
get the surgery! pain will be gone. Yes you will probably need to go to a rehab facility where you will get PT, meals, help if needed w bathing. but it is worth it and insurance should cover most or all of cost.! sso worth it! I went to a Menonite facility. they were wonderful😊
My wife is suffering because of her hips but nothing has been done but she doesn't move much and pain is to her unbearable but weight loss has been a battle. She loves to eat .I asked her to wear gartle. She said she can't.
I have trouble with the shoes and socks. I have the trouble getting into the car. BUT, that is caused by a pain on the left side in my back. I have bad pain in my left side. But, i'm hoping its whats called greater trochanter, and sciatica. I go for scans soon.
I had the same sort of symptoms as you describe. I kept making excuses, thinking I had the trochanter pain as well as sciatica and back pain. IT WAS ALL DOWN TO MY LEFT HIP, WORN OUT. All my pain has now gone. It’s your hip. Guaranteed.
@@Plugonetwo I had my left hip replaced in April 21 and my right hip replaced in April 22. Left hip only an ache after surgery, I was up and walking around as soon as I was allowed to and followed the typical healing pattern, my right hip couldn't of been more different, pain was off the charts and took 2 years before I could walk without a crutch/walking stick and no pain, same surgeon both times. Now back to walking 8 miles per day with my dog If you are on an NHS waiting list? ask your doctor if you can get on the "fast track" list
Hey Will, I've had a love hate relationship with running over a fair few decades - a few years ago I had both hips replaced with ceramic faced joints and I haven't run since - I figure I don't want to risk impact damage that may shorten the life of the fix. Recently I saw a video about slow jogging and wondered if a couple of steady miles twice a week with a ball of foot landing style might be safe. Do you have experience with hip replacements in runners? Apologies if you've covered this elsewhere, it takes a while to watch all the vids that YT is showing me on related subjects.
Ok, this is totally bizarre - just after I posted the above I heard a video playing with what appears to be Will's voice talking about exactly this - but with no video in sight anywhere in any browser window.
Ive got every symptom, had a phone call to say my x-ray showed I needed a hip replacement, a few months back. I see a physio who then sends me a link to go to sitting on a chair exercises once a week, was told 1 in 10 hip replacements don't work and can be complications and there's no turning back. I feel she may have been told to put as many people off as possible due to waiting lists time? All ive read and heard from people who have had hip replacements are all good outcomes. I'm 73 in constant pain and cant sleep properly, Sometimes I do take a co-codamol which does help with sleep but I'm scared to take to many due to becoming addicted. I'm at a loss now as to what to do, I don't drive so it will mean my husband having to take me to these exercise classes who has severe arthritis himself, His 75. If fail to turn up to these classes then what?
Get hip resurfacing from COMPETENT doctors, you will be active as before. Professional athletes only get hip resurfacings to continue their career, like Any Murray, Patrick Kane.
@@enza3770 I think they do hip resurffacing over 60, just check out the right doctors, like Dr. Thomas Gross in SC or Dr. Edwin Su in NYC or Dr.James Pritchard in WA. Only a handful of the doctors can successfully do these hip resurfacacings. OR Dr. McMinn in UK.
3 minutes and 30 seconds before you actually come up with the first sign of that you may need hip replacement. Are you in love with your own voice? Man just get to the point and stop padding the length of the video.

28 year old here, surgery tomorrow. Hip was dislocated at birth. Had 1 surgery at 6months.
I only have trouble with a couple of these but have trouble with a couple other movements-
I have trouble sitting, especially crossing my legs sitting
I have trouble sleeping and getting comfortable
I don’t have trouble walking at all
But the pain otherwise moves from groin to thigh to hamstring .
I can’t lie on my right side without pain. This was my original pain about a year ago.
I am 73, very fit. I ran pretty regularly til I stopped at 70. Nothing hurt then but now my right hip! 😥
Making an appt with an orthopedist
Best Video I've seen on this subject, this far. Thanks Doc...
Hello, i have sacroiliac joint arthritis , can it progress or is a sign of hip arthritis ir may require replacement? I have extreme pain
Great info, thank you
My pleasure!
Thankyou for this. Excellent.
Thank you , I really enjoyed hearing you About Hip replacemnents
Great video I've got all 7 signs and will have hip replacement soon
Thank you!
A great help - puts hip concerns into prospective.
Very happy to help!
Thank you
Very clear and concise. Im trying to avoid surgery, but I have all 7 signs to som3 degree and Im miserable. Although walking sometimes doesnt cause pain. Im a nurse and walk for 6 hrs at a time. I guess surgery is in the near future.
Sex is your major pain?
Don't avoid the surgery, I had mine done at the end of August and I'm so sorry that I waited. What a life changer!!! I dealt with the pain for 6 years. Won't do that with the other hip when it's time.
Do not.
From ERITREA
Good information. Thank you.
No problem.
I have always avoided sitting on chairs. I lounge on a sofa unless up and about.
I have read that sitting on chairs is also bad for blood circulation to legs.
Lucky to read ur exprience...
It is true.
I will try not to sit down...!
Thanks for the list; it was very helpful!
Great to hear it!
I met all of the criteria...darn it!
Sorry to hear about that, always best to get assessed by a professional before making any decisions.
I drive a manual car and I find my left ball joint locks up I have got to get out of the car and walk around for a bit, or get out of bed it will lock up, I find when I sit it is painful
I have all 7 plus I can't walk on❤ uneven surfaces. I'm booked in for October 5th 2023.
How are doing today? It’s been 1.5 months. Wish you the best.
I have most of them signs, they are recently getting worse but it's not just my hips, it's my knees and feet as well but the drs are not listening to me so I am now just waiting until the day I can't walk and the tell me that I actually need help so I can say I told you I did. They dismiss people for so long claiming covid all the time
Always good information 😊
I was diagnosed with OA at 22 so 30 years later I’m in need of a replacement hip joint
Thank you.
Sounds like a labral tear. Same issues I have. Had an MRA that diagnosed me with a torn labrum.
I'm 51 and I have every single one of these symptoms. I'm due to have a hip replacement next month. It can't come soon enough for lack of sleep.
So i just adjust there also.. so what do i do
Ding ding ding ding!!! All seven for me, I guess I know what I'm going to do!
I have all 7 too
Wow I have all the symptoms at 49! Wicked
I’m 40 mate and hips in agony daily. Had bi lateral hip arthroscopy in 2020 but did nothing.
Thank You.
I am near 71 and have 29 steps to get outside. This bum hip has to hold up till I get out of here.
get the surgery! pain will be gone.
Check your SI joint! It can mimics back pain.
I had the same sort of symptoms as you describe. I kept making excuses, thinking I had the trochanter pain as well as sciatica and back pain. IT WAS ALL DOWN TO MY LEFT HIP, WORN OUT. All my pain has now gone. It’s your hip. Guaranteed.
Had both hips replaced. I’m like new!
How long a gap between both surgeries? Thank you in advance.
same want to know
reply kindly
@@Plugonetwo I had my left hip replaced in April 21 and my right hip replaced in April 22.
Left hip only an ache after surgery, I was up and walking around as soon as I was allowed to and followed the typical healing pattern, my right hip couldn't of been more different, pain was off the charts and took 2 years before I could walk without a crutch/walking stick and no pain, same surgeon both times.
Now back to walking 8 miles per day with my dog
If you are on an NHS waiting list? ask your doctor if you can get on the "fast track" list
@@macraghnaill3553 thank you so much and cheers to a healthier life!
@@macraghnaill3553 thank you for the reply.
Thank you! Unfortunately i have all seven signs!😢
I’m 37 and need both hips done, damn it
Apart from my hip problem , shortly after my hip pain started i also started getting pains in my knee.
Has this happened to anyone?
my hip ball has worn away can i still get help😫
No painkillers help for the pains im recejng
There are many ways to get in and out of a car depending upon the type of car and other factors. This criteria was a little unclear.
I am having hip replacement jan 19 cant come soon enough.
how are you now ??
@samairasam35 I am 5 months post op for right hip it is doing great, had left hip done 3 weeks ago.
One side done 15 yrs ago,now at 88 do I want to go through recovery again?.
does right side recover properly ??
now do you want to do again in right side or left side ??
Why did you not mention limping, can't stand on one leg to put your pants on, trouble getting off of toilet and in out of bath tub?
Total agreement on these additional symptoms. Also walking with a limp and/ or pigeon toed.
I have all seven signs. Do you think hip injections could help at this point?
Get hip resurfacing from COMPETENT doctors, you will be active as before. Professional athletes only get hip resurfacings to continue their career, like Any Murray, Patrick Kane.
@@enza3770 I think they do hip resurffacing over 60, just check out the right doctors, like Dr. Thomas Gross in SC or Dr. Edwin Su in NYC or Dr.James Pritchard in WA. Only a handful of the doctors can successfully do these hip resurfacacings. OR Dr. McMinn in UK.
Jesus, I have all seven signs - I guess I'll continue with my scheduled surgery in March
I could still run rather well, but I could not tie my shoe or get my leg under the steering wheel.
After 38 years of hard work it looks like I’m 7 out of 7.
Dang...I have all 7!😢
I have none of the 7 signs.but i still have pain
3 minutes and 30 seconds before you actually come up with the first sign of that you may need hip replacement. Are you in love with your own voice? Man just get to the point and stop padding the length of the video.
Get married, sex isn't a problem. 😂
Live alone..sex is not a problem 🤣😂
Captain obvious.had thr 2yrs ago still can't walk.drop off.T800Aust
None of these videos mention the best therapy
He should show some illustrations and don't let the camera focus on his talk.
You should say thanks at least.
